The Best Style Moments From the Inauguration
Inaugural style went beyond just one gown: from the First Family to the celebrities, everyone brought their A-game to D.C. this weekend.
Inaugural style went beyond just one gown: from the First Family to the celebrities, everyone brought their A-game to D.C. this weekend.
Every single piece of Michelle Obama’s extensive inauguration weekend wardrobe has been thoroughly scrutinized, but there’s one item in particular that’s gotten everyone extra fired up: The J. Crew Valentina belt the First Lady added over her Thom Browne coat.
It’s no secret that the First Family has a thing for J.Crew. All three of the Obama ladies–Michelle, Malia and Sasha–wore at least one item from the retailer this Inauguration weekend. But just because they live in the White House doesn’t mean the Obamas get special treatment from the brand.
Lyons addresses the speech, in which she acknowledged her relationship with Courtney Crangi, for the first time, saying,
It’s just as surprising to me as it probably is to everyone else. It certainly is strange to wake up, at 44, and look at the person next to you and think: ‘Oh! This wasn’t what I expected.’ But I don’t think love works that way, and I am O.K. with that.
Mickey Drexler also weighed in.
Everyone has been noticing and commenting on how much the Obama girls have grown up and matured in the last four years. While they look like a blend of their parents, their style inspiration clearly comes from one source: their mom, Michelle.
Mickey Drexler, the outspoken and charismatic CEO of J.Crew, made a whole bunch of fashion company CEOs super uncomfortable at yesterday’s Financo forum.
According to the Financial Times, Drexler “sensationally hijacked” a meeting about retail strategy to rail about how luxury companies don’t acknowledge how important outlet sales are to their business.

Fashion Family Tragedy: In unfortunate news this week, a plane carrying members of the Missoni family went missing, amid rumors of a possible kidnapping. However, the company has decided that the menswear show must go on, so it is still scheduled for Sunday in Milan.
J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler started his career as a Bloomingdale’s buyer some 40 years ago. Today at WWD‘s CEO Summit, the “man who dressed America” shared some pretty valuable life lessons. His caveat? “Most of what I say relates to the fashion retail business, most of what I say does not pertain to startup business.”
Still, we say you’ll get something out of his talk, no matter what you’re currently working on.
