The Very Best (and Very, Very Worst) of the 2013 Grammy Awards Fashion

Puffy genital skin-banning dress code, be damned! Last night’s Grammy Awards may not have had the craziest fashion we’ve ever seen, but it was still pretty great. I mean, there was a dress that birthed butterflies–and Justin Timberlake finally introduced his baby ‘fro to a blow dryer. It doesn’t get much more awesome than that.

Of course, it wasn’t all amazing: Katy Perry was there, so you know how that usually goes

Kate Middleton, the Obamas, Justin Timberlake and More Top Vanity Fair‘s 2011 International Best Dressed List

Vanity Fair has just released a preview of the 72nd installment of their famous annual International Best-Dressed List.

As usual, it’s a mixed bag of royals, financiers, socialites and entertainers. Yes, Kate Middleton, whose style we’ve been tracking since her royal engagement, makes her debut on the prestigious list as the Duchess of Cambridge (she’s listed as the wife of the future King of England). However, this isn’t her first time on the list–her inaugural appearance was in 2008.

There are a few other repeats–Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (no surprise there), Carey Mulligan (whom we love), Lady Gaga, who many people didn’t agree with last year, and Michelle Obama, who makes her fifth consecutive appearance–this time with President Obama as a best dressed couple. Another one of our faves, Tilda Swinton, made a well-deserved return to the list after a three-year hiatus. Musician and Lagerfeld muse Janelle Monae is an exciting newcomer and refreshing addition to list, which tends to disregard younger, edgier people.

As for the men, actor Colin Firth and actor/fashion designer Justin Timberlake make their debuts on the list. Firth’s role in A Single Man couldn’t have hurt his chances and it’s good to know that wearing a tragic denim suit to an awards show early in your career is something you can bounce back from. Click through for a sneak peek of the list.

Last Night’s Parties: Swanky with Swarovski and Jonelle Monae Rocks MNG by Mango for JC Penney

Last Night’s Parties: Swanky with Swarovski and Jonelle Monae Rocks MNG by Mango for JC Penney

We divided and conquered last night so we could dine in the penthouse of the Trump Soho with Prabal Gurung and Swarovski and catch Janelle Monae perform and gawk at Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen on the red carpet at the MNG by Mango for JCPenney Party.

I attended a dinner at the glass-walled “Sohi” room at the top of the new Trump Soho Hotel to celebrate the launch of the Spring/Summer 2011 Atelier Swarovski collection. Lauren already got a peek at the collection, designed by Joseph Altuzarra, Mark Fast, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kaplan and Jenny Manik Mercian, at Colette in Paris, so I was psyched to get a first hand look at the sparkling baubles myself. They sparkled almost as brightly as the city skyline, which, from the 47th floor at Spring at Varick Sts., was a glimmering thing to behold. Gurung was on hand to schmooze with editors, and it was his collection of punked out geometric bling, and Altuzarra’s crystals set in lucite bangles that stood out. Also? The food at the Trump Soho is really good. Thanks for a fabulous dinner Swarovski!

Dhani took on the MNG by Mango for JCPenney launch party at bank-turned-fancy-party-venue, Capitale, which featured a runway show and performance by Janelle Monae.
