Fashion News Roundup: More Crystal Renn Controversey, Bed Bugs Invade Victoria’s Secret, and Lanvin Lands Stateside

“Renn”ovating The Industry: Crystal Renn sure has been leaving her mark on the fashion industry lately. The size-10 model recently landed a spot in Jean Paul Gaultier’s new campaign, and came under fire for looking slimmer in a Nicholas Routzen-shot campaign for non-profit Fashion for Passion. Glamour’s got the un-retouched photos as well as an interview with Renn, and she says of the photos “in the new pictures…well, that body doesn’t look like my body. It doesn’t.” If that isn’t enough, Renn is now talking of designing her own plus-sized collection. Phew, when does she sleep? {Glamour and Stylelist}

MAC Misstep?: MAC’s Mexico-inspired collaboration collection with Rodarte is set to drop on September 15, but not everyone is excited. The line is coming under some criticism for a nail polish color called “Juarez,” named after a Mexican town notorious for ignoring the rampant rapes and murders of local women. {The Frisky}

Breaking: Crystal Renn for Gaultier AW 10/11

Breaking: Crystal Renn for Gaultier AW 10/11

We just got our hands on this image from Gaultier’s new campaign for AW 10/11 starring Crystal Renn and fellow Ford model Kelly Moreira. The campaign was shot by Inez and Vinoodh. It’s not the first time Gaultier and Rennn have worked together–she famously walked for his SS 2006 show.

Renn looks amazing in this shot, and we’re betting that those long lean legs for miles will kick off a new round of buzz about the outspoken “plus size” model’s weight. We just think she looks hot.

Fashion News Roundup: Joanna Coles Haul Vlogs, and Lady Gaga (Might Have) Gone Drag for Vogue Hommes

Get a Clue: L.A. boutique Confederacy has teamed up with Francisco Costa to reproduce and sell the iconic white Calvin Klein dress that Alicia Silverstone wore in Clueless. (Recall the scene between Cher and her father: “What the hell is that?” “A dress.” “Says who?” “Calvin Klein.”) The dress will be sold online and in-store for $915. We’re, like, totally excited. {Daily Front Row}

Taylor-Made: Rachel Zoe’s former assistant Taylor Jacobson is now working as Kate Beckinsale’s stylist. It’s a high profile gig for Jacobson. Last thing we heard, she was consulting for denim line Kasil. Maybe her former boss won’t be so harsh now. {Hollywood Life}

The Teacher As Student: You probably wouldn’t expect the Editor-In-Chief of Marie Claire to be taking her cues from haul vloggers Blair and Elle Fowler (ages 16 and 21, respectively), but that’s exactly what she did. Check out Coles’ “What’s In My Bag” spoof vlog. {Marie Claire}

The Thierry Mugler Conundrum: Who Will Be Creative Director?

The Thierry Mugler Conundrum: Who Will Be Creative Director?

The Tierry Mugler label, revived in 2008, is rumored to be shopping for a new creative director. The status of current artistic director Rosemary Rodriguez is unknown.

WWD reports that Gareth Pugh is the front-runner for the position, which is understandable and probably true. Pugh’s dramatic silhouettes and unconventional designs reject the traditional conception of ready-to-wear and flirt with the idea of fashion as art, much like Mugler did in the late ’70s and ’80s. Pugh is also a responsible choice since he is only 29 years old, the perfect age for a position that Mugler’s owners will expect him to fill for at least ten to fifteen years.

Gaultier Out at Hermes, Lemaire In
The Business

Gaultier Out at Hermes, Lemaire In

After seven years under the helm of fashion’s enfant-terrible, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermes has hired Christophe Lemaire as its new creative director. Lemaire previously worked as Lacoste’s creative director for eight years.

With Gaultier out and Lemaire in, it’s undeniable that Hermes is finally taking a more commercial approach to its ready-to-wear collection. Under the command of Gaultier, and earlier Martin Margiela, Hermes prêt-à-porter gained an avant-garde reputation which, while popular in editorials, was not popular in stores.

We’re expecting Lemaire’s first collection, due in March 2011, to be sportswear heavy, helping to transform Hermes’ ready-to-wear collection into a viable business.
