Luckily, the tween dreams at last night’s DKNY Sunglass Soiree were solely of the faux specimen—the kind that play characters seven years younger than their actual selves, making it awkward when you witness them guzzling vodka. Last night’s party in honor of DKNY’s sunnies featured two Gossip Girls, a Twilight, and a Jonas all on the same crowded roof deck.

Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr to Leave Gossip Girl: Fans of the show may be sad, but can hardly feign surprise. Momsen has been a fractional presence this season, and Szohr’s Vanessa only shows up every couple episodes to aid other characters’ dramatics. Vanessa also let it drop on last week’s episode that she will be leaving to”‘study abroad”–TV code for “I’m leaving the show and this is the best way to slip that into the plot.” {JustJared}

The Met Gala is all about the dresses, but as we know, fashion and beauty go hand in hand. There were some spectacular looks and some, um, interesting ones. We’ll break it all down for you here.

Do you love your armpits? Chances are that most women will answer “no” to this question. In fact, Dove interviewed 534 women between the ages of 18-64 and a whopping 93% think their pits are the pits. Not shocking. The next question: would you use a product that claims to make them prettier?
Today Dove is launching Dove Ultimate Go Sleeveless deodorant/anti-perspirant, which supposedly provides 24 hours of wetness protection while also giving your underarms a dose of vitamins, a humectant, and moisturizers. In five days, Dove says you’ll have softer, smoother underarms. The deodorant is also formulated to minimize telltale white deodorant marks on your clothes. (If only it could get rid of annoying stubble and flabby biceps, too.)
Jessica Szohr, of Gossip Girl fame, teamed up with Dove to promote Go Sleeveless, and we got to chat with her during New York Fashion Week this past February at Milk Studios where she was doing a photo shoot with Dove. She was wearing cut off denim shorts and ass-kicking Dsquared pointy wingtip oxfords; she also has enviably thick hair and seriously amazing skin.
Yesterday evening we trekked downtown through the drizzle to check out Jay Godfrey’s latest offerings. And from the moment we stepped into his presentation space (an intimate Chelsea apartment tricked out with a candy- and cocktail-covered table), it was clear the young Hollywood favorite had sunnier climates on his mind.
“I started by thinking about Capri,” Godfrey explained, citing the Italian island that’s a choice getaway for the fashion crowd. “The interior design of the JK Capri, this amazing hotel there, was my inspiration. The rich blues, whites, and the bright colors of the bougainvillea—a flower that’s indigenous to the Amalfi Coast—are all here.”
Sure enough, most of the playful party frocks on display were cast in the same crisp cobalt and ivory tones as the JK Place’s retro-maritime décor, with a hit of creamy beige here and there—a suggestion of sandy shores, perhaps. Each style was named after a celebrated interior decorator, and many bore geometric color-blocking and sleek patterns of sequins that echoed the collection’s sixties-resort feel.

Before and after Fashion’s Night Out: The Show, I made my way to the night’s two biggest events: The launch of Jessica Simpson’s denim collection and the Kate Spade/Elizabeth Arden-hosted dinner to celebrate the launch of the brand’s new fragrance, Twirl.
Simpson’s soiree was a lively party in her apparel label’s showroom, DJed by brother-in-law Pete Wentz and featuring Simpson and friends show off the jeans, as well as some Spring 2011 offerings. The snacks were good–mini everything, from grilled cheese to hamburgers to BLTs–and the atmosphere was bright and buzzy. Simpson’s friends, including CaCee Cobb (who we’re particularly fond of because she’s married to Donald Faison, aka Murray from Clueless) scooted around the room in their new clothes. In reality, there were few actually examining at the wares–most onlookers seemed to want to get a good view of Simpson’s bod rather than her jeans. But I’ll say that there were some lovely shoes in the mix–particularly a pair of brown heeled hiking boots. Simpson’s shoe collection–when she’s not knocking off other labels–is really great. There–I’m admitting it!
I soon moved on to FNO: The Show, which you can read about here. Then it was time to head down to Tribeca, where the Kate Spade gals were clinking champagne at the Smyth Hotel’s Plein Sud in honor of Twirl, a new fragrance produced in conjunction with Elizabeth Arden.
We will forgive these three for wearing sunglasses inside, just this once. Last night, at the Sunglass Hut Flagship store on Fifth Avenue, we watched Jessica Szohr, Alexis Bledel and Emmy Rossum try on some pretty cute shades in celebration of the new Vogue Eyewear/CFDA Capsule Collection. We thought this was a pretty random choice of celeb guests and were wondering where Rachel Bilson was, until we realized each pair of sunglasses was pretty well-suited to these three girls. By the way, Alexis Bledel is GORGEOUS in person.
CFDA members Devi Kroell, Matt Murphy and Kara Ross were each selected to design a pair of sunglasses for a special capsule collection to be sold under the Vogue Eyewear brand.
We’ve heard from reliable sources that Teen Vogue might put Ke$ha on one of its covers. The mini-fashion bible–which we’ll proudly admit, we still read–wants to fold some edgier talent into its typically fresh-faced mix.
