Jenna Lyons on Being a ‘Creature of Habit’ and Her New ‘Collaboration’

The J.Crew president on her longtime obsession with Giles & Brother, the return of pinstripes, and her next collaboration (of sorts).
It’s been an interesting year for siblings/business partners Philip and Courtney Crangi. They launched Giles & Brother jewelry over a decade ago, but thanks to Courtney’s highly publicized relationship with J.Crew president Jenna Lyons, a whole new set of eyes are watching them.
But here’s what’s so refreshing: Where most would be tightlipped in response to a sudden onslaught of gossip regarding their personal life, the Crangis acknowledge that Courtney’s relationship is a point of interest for press, embracing it in the most positive way.
It’s summer and that means on Fridays everyone should be sneaking out of work a little bit early to go on a weekend jaunt or grab a drink on a sunny rooftop. The fashion industry, which works really hard, also knows how to cut loose and play hard. In our new weekly column, called Summer Read more →

In news that does not surprise us at all, the always-stylish Rachel Bilson will be the next celebrity to partner with BeachMint on a new ecommerce site. Bilson follows fellow actresses-cum-designers Kate Bosworth (JewelMint) and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (StyleMint) and singer Jessica Simpson (BeautyMint) in collaborating with the social commerce platform. Like Kate, Rachel is working with her friend and stylist Nicole Chavez. And since jewelry, tees and beauty products are all covered, they’re doing footwear! The site, which is set to launch in November, will be called ShoeMint and they are partnering with Steve Madden on affordable shoes.
We love Rachel’s style and have to admit we kind of saw this coming–she was JewelMint’s first guest curator and like Kate, Rachel is one of those actresses who, regardless of whether or not she’s working on anything, is constantly in magazines and gossip blogs because of what she’s wearing. I mean, her most memorable acting role is still The O.C., which ended in 2007 and she hasn’t really fallen off our radar since. Though, her new show Hart of Dixie seems promising (right?).
It’s hard to beat the prices of subscription-based jewelry brand JewelMint (designed by none other than Kate Bosworth); you can score one pretty piece a month for only $30. But, as great a deal as that is, we can do you one better: our editors picked out five covetable pieces to give away to one Read more →
BeachMint is having a very, very good year.
In October 2010, the internet start-up partnered with Kate Bosworth and celebrity stylist Cher Coulter to launch JewelMint–a members-only site that sells exclusively-designed jewelry by Bosworth and Coulter. Then, in July 2011, BeachMint launched StyleMint–a similar shopping platform, except this time with the Olsens shilling t-shirts. Now, WWD, is reporting that the online powerhouse is ready for its next venture: Beauty.
BeachMint is partnering with Jessica Simpson and celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy to sell anti-aging skincare using the same retail model as JewelMint and StyleMint.
Sienna Miller for JewelMint: We had a feeling all those super stylish celebrities hung out together and Kate Bosworth’s collaborators on her JewelMint company are confirming those suspicions. Following in Rachel Bilson’s footsteps, Sienna Miller is the latest celebrity curator for the site. {People Style Watch}
H&M Gets Smaller: It seems like everyone is doing a children’s line these days (maybe because everyone is pregnant/giving birth?) and now mass retail chain H&M can be added to that list. The clothes are not only very cute, but also for a good cause. They will benefit H&M’s All for Children initiative with UNICEF. {WWD}
Rye Rye for Prabal Resort: Check out Prabal Gurung‘s crazy resort 2011 film starring M.I.A.-discovered female rapper Rye Rye. {StyleList}
The juggernaut that is the Olsen twins refuses to stop. Mary-Kate and Ashley are now throwing their big, floppy hats into the interactive e-commerce arena with a new venture, WWD reports today.
StyleMint, which launches this July, will work the same way as jewelry site JewelMint, which boasts Kate Bosworth and her stylist Cher Coulter as partners. It’s basically a 21st century “of-the-month” club, but with personalized recommendations that get more specific the more you buy. You register as a member and fill out style quizzes so that the site can tailor purchase suggestions for you–WWD likens it to the algorithms used by Pandora. You can also link to Facebook and Twitter through the site to garner opinions from your friends and followers.
