Place Your Bets on Charlotte Casiraghi for Gucci: The Royal daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco (and granddaughter of Grace Kelly) may be the next face of Gucci. Considering that Gucci provides the 25-year-old with her equestrian kit, this rumor has a lot of horsepower behind it. Plus this blue blood has a Blue Ribbon in fashion: she regularly sports Gucci and Chanel Haute Couture, and she covered the September issue of Paris Vogue. Nothing official yet, so we’ll just have to wait for the photo finish. UPDATE: It’s confirmed, reports Vogue UK. She’ll appear in a four-part series to be shot by Peter Lindbergh, all with a horsey theme. {Telegraph UK}

It sounds like Galliano’s indiscretions and subsequent firing has, understandably, put fear into the hearts of other designers who have enjoyed a similarly rebellious lifestyle–at least those who work for huge coporations. One example is YSL’s talented, but at times rebellious and hard-partying creative director Stefano Pilati. In a fantastic interview with Vice, he discusses how people in his position can’t really get away with bad behavior the way they used to:
Today, excess has to be kept within the private sphere. But you know about my past and that I used to get high. When I used to really use, at Prada, a guy found out, and he told me, “Well, David Bowie made his best records when he was using.” That was maybe the last time I felt that there was a slight acceptance of what I was doing. Today, that kind of stuff is just impossible. Without getting right into the dirt of it, John [Galliano] really kind of put an end to that sort of option.
Of the Galliano situation he says:
Haute couture kicks off next week, and with its approach comes more musing about creative director-less Dior. Critics panned interim director Bill Gaytten’s first efforts at couture for the house and today, the AFP wonders how long Dior can thrive without a couturier.
Sure sales are up 27 percent, which, the article notes, has served to “limit fallout from the Galliano scandal,” but we’ve yet to see real sales figures from Gaytten’s designs, which will be in stores in the coming months. Still, according to experts quoted in the AFP story, Dior can hold on without a creative director for a few season thanks to the diversity of the brand and it’s strong design “codes” like the bar suit and nipped waists.
