Last Night’s Party: Tracy Anderson on Biceps, Butts and Why Gwyneth Once Lacked Rhythm

Last Night’s Party: Tracy Anderson on Biceps, Butts and Why Gwyneth Once Lacked Rhythm

With this week’s onslaught of gloomy drizzle putting our thrice-weekly power walks around Central Park on hold, it felt like a cruel joke when we learned that fitness guru Tracy Anderson would be co-hosting a cocktail fête at Juicy Couture‘s showroom. To paraphrase Tai Frasier, “our buns, they don’t feel nothin’ like steel.”

Anderson’s behind the intimidatingly sculpted physiques of some of Hollywood’s finest (Madonna and Gwyneth, anyone?) and the invite stated that she’d share her bikini-season tips with us not-so-athletic attendees. Amongst a slew of St. Tropez-inspired summer looks, from striped maxi dresses to broad-brimmed straw hats to charm bracelets and oversize sunglasses in cheery rainbow hues, we sipped low-cal drinks with The Glamourai‘s Kelly Framel, Runway Hippie‘s Sonia Evers, and a bunch of other fellow bloggers. The evening’s tequila cocktail of choice, combining cayenne pepper and lime, sounded oddly Master Cleanse-esque at first, but proved refreshingly delish.

Gift Guide: The Best Gifts for the Style and Tech-Savvy

As Oprah and her audience can attest, iPads make great gifts. So do laptops, e-readers, smart phones and other fun technology. But perhaps even more fun (not to mention less expensive) are the accessories out there to go along with these gadgets. Honestly, I’m not sure which I’d be more excited to unwrap–an actual iPad or a snake-embossed Rebecca Minkoff case for it. (Ok, probs an iPad.)

As more and more designers are smartly expanding into this market, there are now a plethora of fashionable ways to pretty-up your new toys, the sleekest of which still tend to look drab and impersonal. There are Mulberry patent leather laptop cases, Marc by Marc headphones, Tory Burch Kindle sleeves and so much more. Click through for the best tech gifts.

Juicy Couture Hires American Eagle’s Head Designer

Juicy Couture Hires American Eagle’s Head Designer

If you love Juicy Couture’s velour track suits–no judging, we promise–but find $196 price tag a bit jarring, good news:

Liz Claiborne, the company that now owns Juicy Couture and kicked out founders Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy about a year ago, has hired American Eagle’s chief design officer LeAnn Nealz to head up the brand, reports WWD.

It can be deduced that her role will not only be to update the brand’s image, but also to make it even more mass than it already is. Which hopefully means slightly lower prices.

Erin Fetherston Gets Juicy, Invites a Bunch of Bloggers to Join Her

Erin Fetherston’s collection for Juicy Couture doesn’t hit stores until autumn, but that didn’t stop the designer and her team at Juicy from throwing a fete in honor of the new partnership.

After the TimesTalks event, I headed down to Crosby Street for girly cocktails and dinner hosted by Erin at Meet at the Apartment.

There were about 15 of us in attendance, including Britt, Tracey from Glamour, Felicity from newly-launched The High Low and a few of the city’s best personal style bloggers. Of course, they all looked amazing, particularly Kelly from The Glamouri, who revealed that her Coach collaboration bag sold out in days–well done!

All-around, it was a delightful evening. Some highlights:

The Long And Short Of It: Six Slick Shorts That Work For The Workplace

Looking good for the workplace is a must, but it’s so hot out that all we want to do is collapse in a heap under the nearest air conditioner. For those of us for whom that’s not an option, thankfully there’s good news: shorts can be work-appropriate. Here we round up our faves, plus six rules (and when to break them). So sit back, get a snow cone, and try to beat the heat by any means necessary for the weekend. But when Monday morning rolls around, we’ve got you covered.

Bird Handbags is Now Called Liz Carey Handbags, Thanks to Juicy Couture’s Legal Department

A few months ago, Britt wrote a story about a small-but-successful label called Bird, launched in 2006 by Los Angeles-based handbag designer Elizabeth Carey.

After Juicy Couture launched its own label, also called Bird, in 2009, Carey’s name and sales were cannibalized. She first attempted to reach out to Juicy Couture founders Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy informally about the issue, but soon enough Liz Claiborne, the conglomerate that currently owns Juicy Couture, was involved.

Carey was forced to sue the company. She told Britt in April that she wanted to accomplish only one thing: “I want people to support young designers. I trademarked my company and did everything I was supposed to do. It’s a good lesson for people who want to start a brand, to know this and know that it’s out there. A big conglomerate shouldn’t be allowed to do this.”

Yesterday, we were informed that Carey was forced to give up the fight. Her collection will re-launch as Liz Carey handbags this fall.
