As much as we adore the generally flaw-free Karl Lagerfeld and the majority of his creative decisions regarding all that is Chanel, we have to admit that we were a little… conflicted about the hair and makeup we saw at yesterday’s 2012 Chanel Cruise show at Versailles. Those weird candy colored bob wigs with George Washington ponytails sticking out, the Groucho Marx brows, the rosy shadow that gave the models a sort of extreme version of pink-eye. But upon closer inspection, there was something rather endearing hovering on all those impossibly high cheekbones: Tiny double ‘C’ Chanel logos in place of beauty marks, a cheeky (ha!) ode to Versailles’s most fashionable former resident, Marie Antoinette.

We assumed the tiny logos had been expertly drawn on by makeup artist Peter Philips but nay! Read more »

Karl Lagerfeld sent his 2013 Cruise collection for Chanel down a “runway” at Versailles yesterday. Barely recognizable models strutted in candy-colored wigs and quirky pastel looks that were Marie Antoinette-meets-rock & roll with very short hemlines. The collection definitely turned heads and inspired a wide array of opinions and questions–like what exactly was Lagerfeld thinking about when he conceived it? Apparently, it was not Capitol fashion in The Hunger Games.

The always quotable Kaiser told WWD, “It’s Coco rock, not rococo.” That’s cute, but what does it mean exactly? Read more »

Well, our day is off to the best start imaginable. It’s all downhill from here. This morning, Karl Lagerfeld tweeted the above photograph of his adorable little baby kitty Choupette relaxing in what appears to be a bed, playing with an iPad. Ahhh.

To make things even cuter, the photo is accompanied by the caption “iPet” and he made Choupette a hashtag (or whoever is actually behind that Twitter–we’re still not entirely sold on the idea that Karl knows how to Tweet)! Read more »

As far as we can tell, Beth Ditto is one of the coolest people ever. The talented and stylish Gossip frontwoman is beloved by just about everyone–especially fashion people. And for good reason.

From gracing the first issue of Love (naked) to sitting front row at major runway shows, to walking in them, to performing at fashion parties, Ditto, who doesn’t quite conform to the industry’s typical beauty standards, has been described by Katie Grand as “an accidental size hero for the size zero” and “a generational icon, confounding the tedious stereotypes of what it is to be a wonderful 21st-century woman.” She also has great perspective and we love what she said in a recent interview with the Evening Standard about that time Karl Lagerfeld said fellow plus-size songstress Adele was “a little too fat”:

We thought for a second that Karl Lagerfeld had signed on to endorse yet another random product, but fortunately it’s just Ashton Kutcher playing “Darl,” one of five “bachelors” in a Pop Chips promotional video (below) that we guess is meant to poke fun at dating profiles.

“Darl,” who says things like “Miracles in my mouth make an Eiffel Tower in my pants,” got the outfit pretty much down to a T. He got a few other things wrong though: Read more »

When Alexa Chung woke up this morning, she’d had one of those strange dreams that you just need to tell someone about, so, in another social media snafu, she told all of her Twitter followers: “Whoa I just had a strange (sexy) Karl Lagerfeld dream. I don’t want to talk about it.” She deleted the tweet a few minutes later but it was too late (screen grab below). Read more »

Antonio Lopez Gets a New Biography + The Best Karl Lagerfeld Photo Ever: Renowned fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez was once close with Karl Lagerfeld, so naturally the new biography about Lopez includes pictures of a younger, buffer Lagerfeld. In a mankini.

Victoria Beckham is Seriously Funny – Who Knew?: Though she’s still bringing her fashion A-game, we kind of think V.B. has dropped the Posh act. And we like it. A lot.

Hashtag “Chicret”: We love P’Trique, but we love pink-tressed model Charlotte Free even more, which is why we were so excited to watch this hilarious video with P’Trique announcing Charlotte’s new gig as the face of Maybelline.

Hell Hath No Fury Like A Model Scorned: Or in this case, a supermodel and her rights ignored. Find out why Coco Rocha is so pissed at Elle Brazil.

Kimye Debut as Couple at Chanel Dinner: Kim K and Kanye West stepped out together publicly for the first time at a Chanel dinner. Has anyone been keeping a timer here? Surely it’s been about 15 minutes….

The revival of ’90s supermodels continues. In her first Chanel campaign since that decade, Linda Evangelista is the newest face of Chanel Eyewear. She succeeds fellow ’90s supermodel and current (revived) Guess girl Claudia Schiffer. Should we just stop calling them ’90s supermodels and instead refer to them as forever supermodels? They can’t be stopped. Nor do they age. Read more »

The fashion industry gets a bad rap for, well, not eating enough (except for macarons), so Magnum ice cream’s love affair with fashion always seemed a bit peculiar to us. For their US launch last year, the ice cream brand nabbed the Kaiser himself, Karl Lagerfeld, to direct a series of commercials starring Rachel Bilson and Baptiste Giabiconi which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival.

And Magnum’s love affair with fashion continues. Read more »

This information might come as a surprise to the folks over at Vogue Italia, but rappers have been vocal about their love for high-end fashion labels for years.

And the love affair continues. On Nicki Minaj’s latest album, Pink Friday 2: Roman Reloaded the bewigged rapstress shouts out Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour:

When I’m sitting with Anna, I’m really sitting with Anna / Ain’t a metaphor punchline, I’m really sitting with Anna / Front row at Oscar de la Renta, posture / Ain’t a b*tch that could do it, not even my imposter

And even more recently, fashion fanatic Kanye West boasted about his fashion exploits on his new track “Theraflu”, from dinner with Anna Wintour to racing go karts with Anja Rubik:

Remember when Karl Lagerfeld mentioned that Adele was “a little too fat” in Paris Metro? He subsequently issued a statement saying the quote had been taken out of context and that he’s actually Adele’s “biggest admirer.” Just in case she was still pissed, though, he’s reportedly attempted to make further amends by sending her some Chanel bags.

The report comes from UK tab The Sun, so, you know grain (or shaker) of salt, but here’s what they say:
