New York Fashion Week runways may lose the best legs in the business this season, if we’re to believe the rumors. Thanks to the ever-alert eyes over at Fashin, there’s some Twitter rumbling that Karlie Kloss is skipping the season for a “big” opportunity.
CNN’s fashion reporter, Alina Cho (check out the profile on her in the New York Daily News–she’s the new Elsa Klensch!) tweeted (via @AlinaChoCNN) this nugget last night:

Are you ready for New York Fashion Week? Next Paris models Abbey Lee, Aline Weber, Anja Rubik, Arizona Muse, Hailey Clauson, Karlie Kloss, Lou Doillon (and many more) certainly are.
In this new NYFW pump-up video, directed by Sebastien Haddouk & Julien Gallico, the Next Paris models pose and primp in front of an imaginary mirror, dance like crazy, smell their pits and just kind of freak out in general. In other words, it’s exactly what goes on in our apartments before fashion week gets underway. Except, of course, we’re not supermodels–and sadly, unlike Karlie Kloss, we’re not sure we could pull off that slit-to-there Anthony Vaccarello dress quite so elegantly. (Seriously, does she live in that thing?)

Remember that gorgeous editorial in Vogue’s December issue featuring Karlie Kloss and Eddie Redmayne as “a couple of sinners on Ibiza—she, wearing printed resortwear generating plenty of heat; he, trying hard to keep his cool.” The spread, titled “Temptation Island” and lensed by Mario Testino, seems to have spawned a real life romance. Gwyneth Paltrow graces the March cover of Haper’s Bazaar wearing the same Anthony Vaccarello dress Karlie Kloss walked in (and wore to that Carine Roitfeld vampire party) during Paris fashion week last September. You can’t see Gwyneth’s face here, but who needs to when there’s so much thigh to take in? Read more »
Oscar de la Renta has tapped Karlie Kloss and her amazingly toned legs once again for his spring 2012 ad campaign. For last season’s campaign, Karlie glammed up the street of Red Hook, Brooklyn. This time, Kloss is indoors wearing bold colors, which pop against a black-and-white striped floor. Read more »
Fascinators Banned from June’s Royal Ascot: The Royal Ascot in Britain is cracking down on fascinators, cleavage, and, well… crack. A new, more clearly stated dress code is now officially in place for the event in an effort to swing it from chavy to classy: Strapless tops and above-the-knee hems are banned. Fancy fascinators will only be allowed in the grandstand areas; whereas the royal enclosure (aka the big boy seats) will allow only hats and headpieces that cover at least 4″ of the head at the base. Look out for K-Mid sporting the latest fad, hat-hair. {Fashion Foie Gras}
Justin Bieber Goes Brunette: Speaking of Duchess Kate: Clearly the latest casualty of the “Kate Middleton Effect,” baby Biebs has hit the brunette bottle. Now he’ll definitely be taken more seriously as an artist. Definitely. {US Weekly}

Michelle Williams Is Still Marilyn Monroe, This Time on GQ‘s Cover: While we await the day magazines will get sick of the Marilyn Monroe theme they so adore, we will bask in Michelle Williams’ editorial shots for GQ, which are quite beautiful. {GQ}
Zappos Gets Hacked: 24 million accounts were affected Monday when a hacker let loose on the online shoe store. Names, addresses, phone numbers, and partial credit card numbers were accessed, causing the e-tailer to encourage its customers to change their password information for the Zappos site, as well as modify passwords for accounts on other sites if they were the same. We will never understand the motives behind hacking, but whoever caused all this trouble better have ordered themselves a good pair of Nikes to run in once the cops come looking for them! {CNN Money}
Taylor Swift Wants to Bake Cookies With Karlie Kloss: The Vogue cover girl (interrupted) reveals this and many more fascinating tidbits like how “awkward” she was in middle school and that her next album will be about (surprise!) heartbreak. {Vogue}

15 years ago, all a model had to do was show up and look pretty. But in today’s social media-saturated world, a great pair of legs and killer cheekbones do not a supermodel make. More and more, a model’s earning power is derived not only by how many shows she walked or magazines she covered, but how many Twitter followers she has, according to the AP.
Name recognition has always been a powerful asset in a model’s career, but whereas in the past the public mostly got to know the industry’s biggest players through countless covers, campaigns, gossip columns and paparazzi photos, today’s social media has enabled models to make names for themselves. Now, any business-savvy model can get her name out there–and control her brand–through Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook.
