The light at the end of the tunnel is near as we power through day seven of New York Fashion Week. Or maybe we’re just still thinking about the fluorescent lights at Rodarte’s show this afternoon?
Either way, fashion week is almost over, so we’ve been snap-happy trying to take in all of its goodness before it’s too late.
Here’s what we saw today.
Karlie Kloss skipped out on the first half of New York fashion week due to some MTV House of Style obligations (she was at last night’s Grammys) but she’s making up for it by showering us with her Momofuku Milk Bar cookies kookies from a special kookie truck.
Next to the Met Ball, the amfAR Gala is probably the most fashion-y red carpet of the year, and this year’s was no exception.
To survive in this business, you’ve got to have more than talent. You’ve got to be shrewd, savvy, determined—and a crazy-hard worker.
So here’s our list of the 50 most influential people working in New York fashion right now. To compile the list, we used our own knowledge of the industry combined with advice from inside sources.
Let us know what you think: You’ll find the entire Fashionista 50 list below. Click on the person’s name to read a full bio. And if you really want to click through the whole slideshow, you can do so here.

Alber Elbaz couldn’t make it to New York for his spring 2013 ad campaign shoot. According to WWD, Sandy got in the way. However, thanks to modern technology, he was still an active participant.
Karlie Kloss is at the top of her game: She’s beloved by designers; she’s a Vogue favorite; she holds lucrative deals with consumer giants like Victoria’s Secret; she co-hosts MTV’s House of Style with Joan Smalls; she shills her own vegan Karlie’s Kookies with Momofuku Milk Bar; and her haircut was just christened ‘The Karlie’ by the New York Times.
But there’s still a lot more 20-year-old Kloss hopes to accomplish in her career–and one of those things is going to Harvard.
Today Vogue released an editorial from their February issue “celebrating Hurricane Sandy’s first responders.” In it, top models like Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss and Liu Wen pose in looks by American designers (an Oscar de la Renta ballgown, a silk Donna Karan gown, a leather jacket from Proenza Schouler) next to Con-Ed employees, members of the National Guard, and the staff of the neonatal intensive care-unit at Bellevue hospital.
At first glance, the story made us feel a bit icky. Residents of New York and New Jersey are still suffering in Hurricane Sandy’s aftermath. Juxtaposing a beautiful young model in a thousand dollar designer dress against Con-Ed workers and nurses seems, well, somewhat off.

The first Dior ready-to-wear ad campaign under the direction of Raf Simons has finally hit the web.
Shot by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign images are as much a departure from the dramatic style of John Galliano as the collection itself–along with a little Surrealist influence from René Magritte.
As we’re sure you now know, Vogue cover girls aren’t just plucked out of a hat at random.
A lot of careful planning goes into picking the stars of each month–who has a film coming out when? Who has Anna Wintour built a relationship with? Who fits each issue’s theme? After years of…foreseeable covers, we feel like we more or less know a future Vogue cover girl when we see one. So, we’ve decided to try and predict who will cover the glossy in 2013.
