Marc Jacobs may have given his namesake show a cabaret theme, but that inspiration clearly carried over to Paris for his jaw-dropping Louis Vuitton collection. So, for a new short film to showcase Vuitton’s spring ’12 accessories, Katie Grand took that inspiration and ran with it. The result, which debuted today on Love, features models in swimcaps, leotards and Louis Vuitton shoes performing authentic thirties-style synchronized dance moves with big feathers. Read more »

The Best Magazine Covers of 2011
Dont judge a book by its cover… Unless it’s a magazine, in which case, sometimes the cover is the deciding factor of whether or not to buy the mag altogether.
The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we’re still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there’s still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography.
After toiling over hundred of covers, we’re bringing you “The Best” according to us. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

The 25 Best Fashion Editorials of 2011
It happens every year: Our ever-growing pile of fashion magazines inches higher with each passing month, and by the time December rolls around, we can barely sift through the hundreds of stylish images we bookmarked for inspiration. 2011 was no exception, and in a year that celebrated retro supermodels, androgyny, vivid colors, and plenty of experimentation in the beauty department, choosing our favorites was particularly difficult.
The best editorials of the year ran the gamut from huge ensemble casts of blue-chip models styled by greats like Katie Grand and Carine Roitfeld, to intimate, one-on-one portraits of our favorite girls like Lindsey Wixson and Daria Werbowy. The acid brights that dominated the spring collections allowed for some pretty trippy trend stories last season, but the fall glossies featured much moodier imagery, with a number of gorgeous spreads in black and white.
Here are the editorials from 2011 that will stay tacked up on our walls and fill our inspiration boards well into the new year—and beyond.

A couple of years ago, when I was in business school, my teacher was having a conversation with the class about all of the different areas of business we must take care of in order to be considered “successful”. One of those areas was “politics”. Now, he wasn’t talking about politics in the traditional sense of the word, like government or politicians, he was talking about the dynamics of people in a group, area or field. So I am talking here about politics as the relationship between people in fashion and how some people are considered powerful, how some people are not, and why. At one point in our class, someone stood up and said that he hated politics and he stayed as far away from politics as possible (exactly what I was thinking as the other student said it). In return, my teacher said, “If you don’t like politics, then be a dog. Tough luck buddy. Whether you like it or not, politics are there and you have to learn to deal with them if you want to be successful.” So I started thinking about what that meant to me and my job and career as a stylist and what it meant inside of the fashion business.

The British Fashion Council has just announced the nominees for the 2011 British Fashion Awards, which are essentially the U.K.’s answer to our prestigious CFDA’s. The ceremony, which is scheduled for November 28, is meant to recognize the most influential people in fashion today and also promote the growth of British fashion.
With all the attention the U.K. has been getting lately for that stylish princess of theirs and being dubbed the “new fashion capital,” British fashion is definitely more relevant than ever this year. That may be why the BFC has decided to re-introduce the Red Carpet award, which “gives recognition to a British designer who is creating global awareness of their designs in the media.”
From Kim Jones to Stella McCartney to Erdem, here are all the nominees:

In what may be another piece to the Marc Jacobs-to-Dior puzzle, Louis Vuitton has just announced that they are planning to unveil an exhibition during Milan Fashion Week that will pay tribute to their artistic director of 14 years, Marc Jacobs.
This news comes on the heels of several legitimate-sounding reports that Marc is as good as in as John Galliano’s permanent replacement at Dior. Of course, his position at Dior would mean having to say goodbye to Vuitton, where he successfully created the house’s first ready-to-wear line. And this exhibition, which sounds a lot like a retrospective to us, will be a great way to do it.

All of LOVE’s Issue Six Covers Revealed
The LOVE buzz just won’t stop! Elle Fanning and Chloe Moretz’s covers debuted on models.com this week, which has only fueled the LOVE speculation: who else would cover the beloved fashion book? While we guessed that Hailee Steinfeld would be next (Elle+Chloe+Hailee is kind of a thing), we were certain we’d have to wait until Friday to find out.
But no! Fashion’s favorite man about town Derek Blasberg convinced Katie Grand to spill the beans last night at dinner. Lucky for us, Derek couldn’t keep the news to himself, so he Tweeted it around 9pm last night. Thanks D!
According to Derek’s Tweets the models for the other five unreleased LOVE covers are:

The shoot was art directed and styled by Katie Grand, who felt passionately about the campaign’s location: “We felt it was really important that it took place somewhere iconically Spanish. We had considered shooting on the southern coast, but the shoot was scheduled for March – not the best time for the beach. Once we’d decided on the Ritz we moved heaven and earth to make it happen; it was the perfect location, what with its glamorous history and its connection to Loewe.” The connection being that Ava Gardner would drink there with Ernest Hemingway in the Fifties and Sixties–both of them were customers of Loewe, which was born in Madrid in 1846.
