Kate Middleton Receives Two Unusual Honors: The Duchess of Cambridge has gotten a lot of attention for her sartorial choices, so it can’t be too much of a surprise that she is being awarded for it. What is somewhat unusual is the source: The Headwear Association has named Kate their “Hat Person of the Year.” (Seriously, that exists.) The Duchess also made the cover of Scouting magazine, who has dubbed her “The Royal Role Model” for her volunteer work. {Elle UK / People}

Alexa Chung for Superga, Pt 2: In addition to reprising her role as campaign star, Alexa Chung has also been enlisted as stylist for the new ads. Superga gave her full control, so she took photographer Guy Aroch and stamped the ads with her own quirky humor. Here, Chung poses in bed with a sneaker to her ear as a phone. Looks like Kris Jenner doesn’t get her way all the time. Early this month we learned that the Kardashians were shopping a Kardashian mag, with all editorial content to be supplied (and controlled) by the Kardashians themselves.

What had people scratching their heads was that the negotiations were reportedly taking place with American Media Inc. (AMI), who owns Star (among other titles). Star broke the story about the Kardashians allegedly using child labor sweatshops to produce some of their products, and the back-and-forth got pretty ugly. So why would the family want to work with a company that was publishing such unsavory stuff about them?

Remember last summer when Kim Kardashian decided to sue Old Navy for using a girl who supposedly looks like her in their commercials? Her argument was that by doing so, Old Navy caused confusion in the marketplace and violated her intellectual property. Kardashian feels that her reputation has been damaged and is reportedly seeking $20 million from the Gap-owned company. While the law suit was filed back in July, The Gap just responded publicly via the Hollywood Reporter, detailing the case they plan to build against Kardashian and it isn’t simple, but it is kind of hilarious.

Louboutin Making Shoes for Paris Cabaret: Is this what Christian Louboutin was referring to when he said his shoes bring on an “orgasmic situation?” The French footwear designer is set to release a collaboration with Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse, which is well-known for its topless dancers. Wonder if he’ll be making matching nipple tassels… {WWD}

Skechers Replaces Kim Kardashian with a Dog: We would never have guessed that Kardashian overxposure had reached the beer commercial-loving Superbowl crowd. Skechers has announced that the star of its newest sneaker commercials will be none other than… a cute and cuddly French bulldog. Sorry Kim, looks like this bitch has got the last laugh. Or woof. {People}

Annabel Tollman Personifies Underwear in Calvin Klein Webisodes: Calvin Klein Underwear has teamed up with the stylist on a series of webisodes for its new “Naked Glamour” campaign. The three roughly-minute and a half long spots feature Tollman dressing models for a shoot, describing each bra style as the foundation of a character’s look: Confident, Sexy, and Strong. Tollman says she “wanted to encapsulate that moment of self-creation that we all go through [when getting dressed]” – seems like a lot of pressure for a bra! {WWD}

It was about time Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian collaborated on something. They have so much in common: their names start with a K; they’re both in their 30′s; they both got married last summer and they’re both subjects of worldwide obsession.

Okay, so technically they didn’t collaborate on anything, but Kim is promoting a Kate Middleton-inspired shoe for Shoedazzle, the membership-based shoe shopping site she founded. In the above video, Kim wishes the Duchess of Cambridge a happy 30th birthday and shows off the “The Duchess,” a “special shoe” that Shoedazzle created “just for Kate” that you can buy “um..here…at Shoedazzle.co.uk.” Read more »

As WWD‘s recent report of the best-and-worst selling issues of 2011 proved, celebrity covers sell magazines plain and simple.

But while the report is a good indication of which celebrities we can expect to see more of on covers (Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston), and which ones we probably won’t (Justin Bieber, Reese Witherspoon), it doesn’t necessarily paint the whole picture. Because while the glossies are printed in the United States, many have dozens of worldwide editions which frequently use reprints (both covers and content) from their North American counterpart. So are the best-selling US celebrities consistent with those who showed up most around the world?

The Kardashian appeal tends to dwindle when you take the overwhelming North American market out of the picture, so logic would indicate that cover giants Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker would pull out in front, right? Well, that’s not always the case.

We take a look at six big titles which have editions all around the world including Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, and Marie Claire, and who showed up the most where. The results might surprise you.

This is the time for year-end lists and reflection, and when it comes to fashion, we always look forward to what Cathy Horyn has to say. The Times published a slideshow today of what Cathy Horyn has deemed the top fashion moments of 2011 (check out our own list here) and believe it or not, she didn’t like everything.

Her top 10 list, in which she gives her take on what she felt were the biggest fashion moments and events of the year, includes the Alexander McQueen Met exhibit, Sarah Burton’s royal wedding designs, John Galliano’s fall from grace, as well as some less obvious choices such as a dress Giovanna Battaglia wore to Cannes, Olivier Theyskens’ success at Theory and, weirdly, Pop Phones: landline-style handsets that you attach to your cell phone with a cord. Apparently they’re a thing and editors were using them in the front rows? She also nails into the redundancy of 1920s-inspired clothes on the spring runways, justifiably praising Prada and Balenciaga for going against the grain:

The Latest on YSL v. Louboutin: Yes, this is still happening. YSL’s lawyers have now filed their appeal against Christian Louboutin’s latest appeal, which was due by the end of 2011. Way back in April, Louboutin sued YSL for selling a (red) shoe with a red sole, claiming the famed footwear designer had put a trademark on scarlet soles in 2008 – which the judge then deemed invalid. But clearly, Chris L. wasn’t about to give up without a fight. Y’all got drama, the saga continues. {WWD}

PETA Names Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian “Celeb Grinches”: Is wearing fur the same as hating Christmas? PETA, who sure has a way with biting commentary, called Miss-Jackson-if-you’re-nasty “just plain nasty” for her apparent love of animal pelts and collaboration with Blackglama. Fur-lover Kim K has also been blacklisted, unlike her “sweet sister Khloe” who starred in an anti-fur PETA ad. {Telegraph}

Kate Moss Vogue Cover Gets Dupli-Kated: What ever happened to originality (and budgets), people? Australian mag Madison‘s Jan 2012 cover is a more saturated version of Kate Moss’s Vogue Paris cover from June/July 2010. And you may remember that just a few weeks back, Carey Mulligan’s American Vogue cover was reincarnated as a French Elle cover. These photos are without a doubt lovely, but isn’t the point of a fashion mag to sell clothes? Pretty sure those outfits are out of season… {HuffPo}

As an end-of-year tradition, Village Voice gossip legend Michael Musto dresses up as a few of the year’s most talked-about personalities and the results are often over-the-top and provocative. For example, last year he posed in a Lady Gaga-inspired meat dress. This year, he’s taken things just as far, dressing up as an Occupy Wall Street protester, Donald Trump, Michelle Bachmann, Charlie Sheen and two people who we’ve written about time and time again this year: disgraced 72-day bride Kim Kardashian and disgraced fashion designer John Galliano. Kim Kardshian just revealed the Kardashian Khristmas Kard for this year, and it’s about as over-the-top as you’d expect it to be. It has the entire family modeling formal menswear looks, with the exception of momager and matriarch, Kris Jenner, who’s front and center in a skin-tight, spangled teal number. But it gets better.
