Our Review of Dash New York: Lohan’s Leggings, $10 Water and QuickTrim

It’s been almost a week since the hotly-anticipated opening of Dash New York, so we decided it was about time to see it for ourselves. Walking up to the store, I saw no police officers, fistfights or camera crews, which I presumed meant a lack of Kardashain blood inside. In fact, the shop was nearly empty and would range from about two to 10 customers in the half hour or so I was there, which, granted, is probably average for a SoHo boutique on a Tuesday afternoon. Still, I expected a little more from a store whose recent opening warranted police barricades and multiple arrests.

The Kardashians’ New Neighbors on Spring Street Offer Up Some Advice

The Kardashians’ New Neighbors on Spring Street Offer Up Some Advice

The Kardashians call LA home, they’ve “taken” Miami, and now Kim and Kourtney have settled in NYC, where they will open the newest location of their boutique, Dash, on 119 Spring St. (and film a reality show about it, naturally). Maybe the NYC branch will even sell Scott Disick’s forthcoming Ralph Lauren/Tom Ford-inspired line. We’re crossing our fingers that they at least carry over the $10 bottled water with the Kardashian sisters on the label that they sold at the Miami boutique.

119 Spring is a pretty plum piece of SoHo retail real estate. Dash will be on the same block as John Varvatos and a soon to be opened Etro store. Chanel, Burberry, Longchamp and Diesel are on the next block over. The Yelp reviews for the Miami boutique weren’t so hot. Highlights include: “Talk about trashy and cheesy…their clothes made Walmart look like Gucci and Louis Vuitton,” “I was SHOCKED at how lame this store was!!” and “all around the place is a HOT MESS.” So we decided to ask the Kardashians soon-to-be neighbors if they had any advice for the sisters. Unsurprisingly, Burberry and Chanel declined to comment. Longchamp only muttered something about Duke’s being a good place to grab lunch.

Here’s what everyone else had to say:

Fashion News Roundup: eBay’s new style site, Vuitton’s Disco Inspiration, and Lara on Vogue, Again

eBay’s New Look: eBay just launched ebaylookbook.com, a style site with user-generated personal style that visitors can vote on. Popular participants can win fashion accessories. There’s also a trends and style tips section contributed by our very own Lauren Sherman. {eBay Lookbook}

Marc Works Hard For the Money: It sounds like Marc’s seventies infatuation will carry over to tomorrow’s Vuitton show. Supposedly, his inspiration for the collection was disco sensation Donna Summer. {Daily Front Row}

Dov Charney Continues to Dodge Bullets: American Apparel will not file for bankruptcy thanks to an alteration of their agreement with lenders at Lion Capital. The agreement sounds like it came with some conditions. “We are working together with Dov to realign the capital structure of American Apparel to support a number of key initiatives within the business, including the hiring of several new senior executives,” said partner Lyndon Lea. Sure this is all great news for the company and its patrons, but this doesn’t in any way mean the end of all of American Apparel’s problems. {NY Mag}

Jill Stuart’s Clothes Stand Up to Attention-Hoarding Celebs

Season after season, Jill Stuart peppers her front row with press-garnering celebs. While it’s usually a smart move, at Saturday’s show, Stuart’s grocery list of reality stars vied for attention not just with each other, but also with her clothes.

Not so discreet hand-holding (Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick) and even less discreet in-seat dancing (Brad Goreski–but hey, the man’s got moves) piqued photographer’s interest even after the lights went down, turning some cameras away from Stuart’s clothes and instead towards the people who court them.

But unlike the celebs, the clothes showed restraint, and at times even austerity. (High-waisted, knee-skimming shorts come to mind, as does a clean navy cape that seemed more Jil Sander than Jill Stuart).
