Makeup Gets Artsy: Palettes and Powders That Are Too Pretty to Actually Use

Arguably you shouldn’t pay attention to the way a makeup is packaged–it’s all about how it looks on you, right? We all know (and so do cosmetics companies) that subconsciously we’re drawn to the most appealing and beautiful packaging. Companies have taken this concept a step further lately by making the palettes themselves into tiny works of art: Embossed designs and colorful patterns mixed into pressed powders are making our medicine cabinets a lot prettier. From the poshest of brands to the drugstore, you can find these gorgeous palettes everywhere.

Click through to see makeup that looks as good in the package as it does on your face.

Find Out Why Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts’ L’Oréal Ads Have Been Banned in the UK

With governments getting involved in the sometimes misleading world of beauty advertising, cosmetics companies are going to have to ease up on the airbrushing, as L’Oréal just learned the hard way. The UK government recently released guidelines limiting the use of misleading ad alterations, and the American Medical Association recommended similar measures here in the US. The UK is definitely putting its money where its mouth is, and just banned a series of ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington.

Could It Be? The First Photos From Emma Watson’s Lancôme Campaign Plus a Making-Of Video

Lancôme announced back in March that actress Emma Watson would be their new ambassadress and it wasn’t long before paparazzi shots of her campaign as it was being shot by Mario Testino in Paris surfaced on the internet. So, we already had an idea of what the campaign, for new Lancôme fragrance Trésor Midnight Rose, would look like.

Now, it appears, official Testino-shot images have surfaced and they are gorgeous. It may be the best Watson has ever looked.

Breaking News: Rent the Runway Teams Up With Lancôme to Sell Makeup

Rent the Runway–the service that lets you rent designer dresses for a few days at a time–is teaming up with Lancôme to sell a selection of color makeup, including Juicy Tubes, eyeliners, and bronzer.

The goal is to give RtR (www.renttherunway.com) clients the “head to toe” experience: Not only can you now wear a high-end dress for a fraction of the price, you can have makeup that complements your new look delivered in the same package.

“Lancôme is the perfect partner for our entry into beauty,” Rent the Runway CEO Jennifer Hyman said in a statement. “They’re a luxurious, aspirational and sophisticated brand, just like our designer partners.”

It’s no surprise Rent the Runway is entering the full-price market, and beauty seems like a smart way to do it. Lancôme may be luxurious, but it’s prices are attainable. A Color Design Lipstick, for instance, is $22. Not cheap–but not crazy, either. These impulse purchases should add a nice little cushion to RtR’s top line. (The site also sells lingerie at full-price.)

Chris Benz x Lancome + Saks = A Gift With Purchase You Actually Want

Gift-with-purchase is a beloved tactic of the beauty industry to get you to shell out an extra $15 to get that generic makeup pouch you don’t really need, filled with samples that don’t go with your complexion at all.

Lancôme is raising the bar a bit this month by collaborating with Chris Benz on a gift-with-purchase that will make you seek out the Lancôme counter even if you don’t need a new Juicy Tube yet.

Sneak Peek: Emma Watson’s Lancôme Campaign

We got a sense of what Emma Watson’s Lancôme campaign would look like when she was snapped by paparazzi back in March–that’s when Mario Testino was shooting the starlet for Lancôme’s Trésor line in Paris. Now Style.com’s Beauty Counter blog has the first image of the campaign up. Watson looks lovely and I like that there’s something Liza/Cabaret-ish about the campaign (or what we’ve seen of it so far).

According to the Beauty Counter blog, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Watson in the coming months.

Should Celebs Who Front Skincare Companies Be Allowed To Have Bad Skin?

Today the Daily Mail is delighting, as usual, in ripping apart a non-perfect female celebrity. (Do women not work for that paper?) This time it’s Emma Watson, who was caught on film recently without makeup, her skin looking a little stressed.

Of course, it’s just been announced that she signed a deal to become Lancome’s new face. The obvious question, which the Mail’s article raises, is: Should someone with bad skin be the face of a cosmetics brand? They never say this, of course, but it’s there.

Check Out Photos From Emma Watson’s Lancôme Campaign Shoot

Yesterday Lancôme officially announced that Emma Watson would be their newest ambassadress. Paparazzi shots of her campaign as it was being shot by Mario Testino in Paris surfaced last night. From the looks of the shoot, Lancôme is bringing out Watson’s tougher side, giving her strong red lips and dark smokey eyes, slicking down her short pixie hair, and putting a cropped leather biker over her soft blush dress.

Daphne Strikes Back: Daphne Guinness has taken to Twitter to deny the quotes attributed to her in the UK’s Sunday Times Magazine in which she reportedly called Victoria Beckham an “ugly pig” who “annoys the shit” out of her. “I feel like killing myself, I have been stabbed in the back by that journalist…I am so sad stitched up by the sunday times. I thought c. long was a friend. I would never call anyone an ugly cow, not my words,” she tweeted. “And for the record I not only admire Victoria Beckham but know her and like her. My point was that I do most things alone without a backer.” {@TheRealDaphne}
