We’re always overcome with excitement when a new issue of Love is due out, but a couple of images that have been unveiled from the next issue have us even more intrigued than usual. What we know is that the theme of Issue 7, due out February 6, is “After Taste” and Kate Moss, Lara Stone and Rachel Zoe, who has styled for the glossy before, are all involved. While the above Mario Testino-lensed image of our favorite European blonds Lara Stone and Kate Moss wearing floral and gold-embroidered cat ears (they’re credited as bunny ears on Love‘s site but that makes no sense) warms our hearts, we’re a little creeped out by how young Kate looks. 15 years ago, all a model had to do was show up and look pretty. But in today’s social media-saturated world, a great pair of legs and killer cheekbones do not a supermodel make. More and more, a model’s earning power is derived not only by how many shows she walked or magazines she covered, but how many Twitter followers she has, according to the AP.
Name recognition has always been a powerful asset in a model’s career, but whereas in the past the public mostly got to know the industry’s biggest players through countless covers, campaigns, gossip columns and paparazzi photos, today’s social media has enabled models to make names for themselves. Now, any business-savvy model can get her name out there–and control her brand–through Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook.

The Best Magazine Covers of 2011
Dont judge a book by its cover… Unless it’s a magazine, in which case, sometimes the cover is the deciding factor of whether or not to buy the mag altogether.
The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we’re still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there’s still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography.
After toiling over hundred of covers, we’re bringing you “The Best” according to us. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

The 25 Best Fashion Editorials of 2011
It happens every year: Our ever-growing pile of fashion magazines inches higher with each passing month, and by the time December rolls around, we can barely sift through the hundreds of stylish images we bookmarked for inspiration. 2011 was no exception, and in a year that celebrated retro supermodels, androgyny, vivid colors, and plenty of experimentation in the beauty department, choosing our favorites was particularly difficult.
The best editorials of the year ran the gamut from huge ensemble casts of blue-chip models styled by greats like Katie Grand and Carine Roitfeld, to intimate, one-on-one portraits of our favorite girls like Lindsey Wixson and Daria Werbowy. The acid brights that dominated the spring collections allowed for some pretty trippy trend stories last season, but the fall glossies featured much moodier imagery, with a number of gorgeous spreads in black and white.
Here are the editorials from 2011 that will stay tacked up on our walls and fill our inspiration boards well into the new year—and beyond.

When Anna Wintour referred to relatively little-known model Arizona Muse in her last February’s editor’s letter as a “gorgeous, smart, grown-up” and compared her to the likes of modeling giants Linda Evangelista and Natalia Vodianova, we knew the modeling world was in for something big. It’s been quite the landmark year for Muse. Top campaigns, extensive runway presence, big covers, and now another feather in her cap — the number one model in Vogue.
Hundreds of models are cast every year in the pages of international editions of Vogue, and when we tallied the results of their work it quickly became obvious who came out on top in 2011. Quantity and quality must be accounted for to make the top 10. Not only must a models’ appearances be plentiful, but the quality of those appearances must be stellar as well. This includes factors like only-girl editorials, the caliber of photographers they work with and editions they’re in, and their number of overall pages. Arizona’s scoresheet was predictably well-rounded. She worked with the best photographers, scored the most solo editorials and graced enough pages to fill an entire August issue all on her own (that’s about 220 for those of you keeping track). She started the year with a bang by starring in only-girl editorials for Vogue China, Italia, Paris, UK and US, and that was in just one month!
It’s an unusual feat for a model to skyrocket to the extent Arizona has since she hit the international scene last year, and while we’re thrilled for her success, we wonder if it’ll stick. While Muse has the novelty (and sometimes the curse) of it-girl status, it remains to be seen whether she’ll be blessed with longevity, the true mark of a great and successful model. We are looking forward to what the new year will bring for her.
For now, click through for the rest of the top 10.

Watch: The Making of Mario Sorrenti’s Pirelli Calendar, In All Its Naked Sun-Dappled Glory
By Cheryl WischhoverThe 2012 Pirelli calendar debuted this week, and it’s been getting a lot of attention, to say the least (and I am convinced it’s entirely because of Lara Stone). Mario Sorrenti said he didn’t want the calendar to be too sexy, but it’s like the sexiest thing ever. Yes, the end result is a bunch of top tier naked models looking stunning–the whole thing was shot outdoors in Corsica–but I’d argue that the behind-the-scenes video is even more compelling. It’s Here! Kate Moss, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls and More Get Naked for the 2012 Pirelli Calendar, Shot by Mario Sorrenti
The Pirelli calendar–otherwise known as the classiest pin-up girly calendar ever–is an annual tradition for those lucky few VIPs who find it in their mailboxes. It’s traditionally shot by world-renowned fashion photographers (Karl Lagerfeld last year, Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Terry Richardson…the list goes on and on) and features A-list models and actresses. This morning we attended a press conference to preview the 2012 Pirelli calendar, and it left us feeling very warm and um, tingly.
First of all, the calendar was shot in Corsica by Mario Sorrenti, who was in attendance and who is exceptionally easy on the eyes (he’s a former model). Second of all, every single model in the calendar is as naked as the day she was born, and we were treated to a 20-minute long behind-the-scenes video documenting the shoots of all 12 models. Suffice it to say there was a lot of glistening flesh (in almost every scene an assistant is seen spritzing down the models), and a lot of come-hither looks. Here are the ladies who the lucky recipients will get to ogle in 2012: Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.

When it comes to accessorizing an editorial, magazine editors know that there’s one thing that will never fail to instantly jazz up a shoot: Babies! You need only to look at Vogue Spain’s December cover, shot by Bruce Weber and starring a chubby baby’s behind (and we think that Dree Hemingway is in it as well? We weren’t paying attention…) to know what we mean.
Whether it’s baby carriages, baby bottles, or bare baby bums, there’s something about infants that is just so…chic, no? Take a look at the many fashion editorials featuring babies and get inspired to rock your baby (or niece or nephew) next time you really want to make an impression.
There’s only one question that remains: Just where, oh where, are magazines finding all these babies!?

Quote of the Day: Pot Smoking is the Reason Lara Stone Has No Memory
