Lauren Conrad

There were a lot of really strong hair trends that emerged in 2011. Some were exciting when they first popped up, and we even indulged in a few (like pink dip dye hair). However, like anything that gets too much exposure, we are now ready for the next new thing. Maybe we just have beauty ADHD.

While we’re still trying to wrap our heads around what might be big in 2012 (Wet, slick hair? Please…no.) here’s a reminder of what we (and Lauren Conrad) did to our heads in 2011. So let’s review and then move on.

It’s official. The universe is completely obsessed with manicures and nail art. If you don’t believe us, look here. And celebrities are always a source of inspiration–sometimes for what NOT to do, but usually making us pea green with envy because of their cleverly covered digits. While many famous ladies sported a sophisticated neutral palette this past year, there is an elite pack who said, “Screw that. We like glitter.” Katy Perry even famously changed her manicure mid-VMAs this year.

Click through to see all the celebs this year who used their nails for artistic expression, to make a personal statement, and sometimes to just generally intimidate us.

Marc Jacobs Is Going To Be In A Movie: Marc Jacobs let a little secret slip at the WSJ Innovator of the Year Awards this weekend: “I got cast in a role in a movie,” he told Style.com. “They’re filming next week and I’m excited. I get to play a character that’s not myself at all.” Wonder what movie it is? {WWD}

Missed Connection From the YSL Sample Sale: Whoever was wearing purple pants and had a bunch of shoes was apparently the “prettiest girl” at the YSL sample sale last week; the mystery woman inspired a missed connection that fills me with jealousy for this man who is both sentimental and a fan of YSL. {Racked}

Pippa Middleton Might Be Writing A Book On Party Planning: Pippa apparently organized her sister’s April wedding reception and frequently works for her parents party planning business, and is reportedly meeting with publishing houses to work out a party planning book deal. Brace yourself for round 2 of Middleton mania. {Daily Mail}

Lauren Conrad’s been blogging for Forbes.com (random, though maybe not so random, since she’s a mini mogul) and she dropped this little tidbit in her last column:

Right now, one of my main objectives is to expand TheBeautyDepartment.com into a product line. I am currently researching all of my options, but should begin the process of executing an actual line very soon—stay tuned.

This probably isn’t much a of a shocker for anyone who reads her blog, TheBeautyDepartment. Rumors were swirling even the week she launched that her ultimate goal was to get into the beauty game. And we suspect she’ll be really successful.

Lauren Conrad‘s Paper Crown line is chugging along on the fashion calendar, which means she’s just released the look book for her spring 2012 collection (she previously put out fall and holiday).

It’s her third collection for Paper Crown, and so far the look for the line is consistent–sweet wearable basics that you could picture LC wearing. This season’s got an adorable mod twist with Peter Pan collars on blouses and an especially charming pink striped day coat. There are lots of girly bow details than run throughout the collection and they’re particularly charming on the backs blouses that dip low in the back. I also liked the dresses with longer hemlines and baggy sweaters styled over floral skirts while I found the shorter solid-color dresses to be kind of a snooze.

What do you think of Conrad’s third collection for her own line? Would you wear Paper Crown?

First Look at Mark Fast For Aldo: Going off the sketch of a fringed wedge sandal, it looks like the collection might not be out until next resort (though there’s no official word). We’ll wait, since it sounds awesome: Fast described it as “sexy, strong, fierce African fabulousness.” {Catwalk Queen}

Sorry, Lauren Conrad. You’ve been toppled from your hair color throne. Kate Bosworth stepped out at a Coldplay concernt last night in LA with a new man and that hair.

Kate always manages to work the oh-so-disheveled look to perfection, but it’s kicked up a notch with the teal/turquoise ends. We don’t know if this is intentional–it probably is–but from roots to ends her hair perfectly ombrés from natural, to baby blonde, to faded teal. Her brows look pretty spectacular, too. She’s definitely been hitting the brow powder in a good way–it’s a great contrast to her hair.

The Celebrity Tanning Spectrum: Where Do You Fall?

Tuesday, Aug 2, 2011 / 5:00 PM

We were so inspired by the celebrity tanning spectrum spectacle in London–which Pippa and her “royal mocha” tan won by a landslide–that we decided to do our own US celebrity version. Read on for a full analysis of the celebs and their level of bronze glow. Whose tan do you aspire to? Read more »

Lauren Conrad’s role in fashion has gone from the Cali girl everyone wanted to dress like to a budding designer with some actual talent–her latest line, Paper Crown, hit stores Saturday.

While on The Hills, millions of viewers watched Lauren Conrad cry over boyfriends and fight with Speidi. But what we were all really paying attention to–subconsciously or not–was the Laguna Beach native’s easy to emulate style.

Even with her reality days behind her, Conrad continues to inspire and fuel beauty and fashion trends. We’ve rounded up ten of LC’s signiture looks–from the ever popular side braid to her new tie-dyed ombre tresses (and matching nails).

Oh, Lauren Conrad, you minx! Once again, you’ve sent us running to our computer’s zoom button to analyze every strand of your hair.

Today LC popped up on People StyleWatch after having debuted a new colored-hair look. Fans got a hint that something was up when she tweeted yesterday: “Attempting a more wearable version of colored tips for the evening… Compliments of @Kristin_Ess ;-)” Kristin is, of course, her hair stylist and a contributor on LC’s beauty site.

OK, now this is getting ridiculous. Another Jersey Shore girl has embraced multi-colored strands, to rather tacky effect. We loved it on Lauren Conrad. We still thought it was cute on Snooki (there’s just something cute about Snooki, generally.) But now JWOWW debuted a new look while frolicking on the Jersey Shore, and it’s not good.

They look like clip-in extensions gone wrong, and the colors are horrible. Dark brick red and dirty orange? The colors just seem really harsh.

So Snooki was spotted on the Jersey Shore sporting a new ‘do: dip-dyed ends a la Lauren Conrad, in platinum and pink. Now, our first snobby reaction is to officially claim that this trend is over, because who wants to look like Snooki?
