Watch Harmony Korine’s Disturbing New Fashion Film For Proenza Schouler, Plus Party Pix of Olivier Zahm, Lea Seydoux and More From the Premiere

PARIS–Last night at soon-to-be It-club Silencio (think Gold Bar plus Kenmare), Proenza Schouler‘s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez along with POP magazine threw a party to celebrate the release of their new Harmony Korine-directed fashion film, Snowballs. The title is entirely misleading because not only is there nothing snowy or bally about this film, but snowballs also connote a sort of childhood cuteness (a snowball fight! fun!) and this film is not that. It’s disturbing and most of the posh fashion-y crowd (which included both Traina sisters and Lauren Santo Domingo) left the screening room feeling a bit unnerved and gripping their champagne flutes a little tighter. The creepy baby voices singing, the models dressed up like Native Americans with distorted faces and feet shod in trash bags, the not-so-sober rotund shirtless Southern preacher type character in a trailer, the part where the shirtless fat Southern guy and the two characters dressed up as Native Americans all dance together in a circle–it’s provocative to say the least.

Jack McCollough even acknowledged to WWD that the film is “not like a sales vehicle. It’s a sales deterrent if anything.” But that’s precisely why it’s awesome.

Moda Operandi is Collaborating With Polyvore on a Contest Where You Get to Dress Lauren Santo Domingo and Aslaug Magnusdottir

Starting today, users of Polyvore will not only get to put together outfits for Moda Operandi co-founders Lauren Santo Domingo and Aslaug Magnusdottir, but might actually win something for it. Participants must create a head-to-toe look for either Lauren or Aslaug. The two of them will personally choose one winner to receive the very cute Eddie Borgo’s Bear Trap Bangles pictured below and a $200 gift card to be spent on Moda Operandi.

We’re guessing, then, that the winner will be chosen based on what the two stylish girls feel is the closest to something they would actually wear.

Moda Operandi’s Aslaug Magnusdottir Talks Isabel Marant, Layaway for the Elite, and Why LSD Was Her Top Choice for a Partner

Innovations in retail are few and far between. In 2007, I remember hearing about Gilt Groupe and thinking, “this is going to change the way people shop.” Over the last four years, the flash sales site has certainly altered our idea of a discount.

But I’d argue that Moda Operandi–a new platform that allows users to buy pieces right off the runway–is equally as innovative, if not more so.

Five Things We Learned About Lauren Santo Domingo’s Beauty Routine, Starting With That She Doesn’t Wash Her Own Hair

Lauren Santo Domingo opens up about her beauty secrets on Into the Gloss today. Want to know the secret? Pay other people to do everything for you–including wash your hair. Here are the top five gems:

“For hair—not like I wash my own hair, I can’t even remember the last time I washed my own hair—I have Avalon Organics shampoo and conditioner.”

“When I go out at night, I definitely trust the professionals—I get a blow-out, I get my makeup done—I just can’t be bothered to do it myself. I can do my makeup well, but I don’t feel as good…I just prefer to have it done for me.”

“I do a blowout once every five days, I go to De Berardinis, it’s right around the corner from my apartment. They have so many people, and every single one of them is good, which is so rare. I don’t really book appointments—I just call and say, ‘Do you have anyone in 20 minutes?’ That’s about as far in advance as I can plan. It’s usually when I have 100 emails to do—when I look at my phone and I see 65 emails, it’s my cue for a blowout. [Laughs] I’ve probably blown dry my own hair three or four times…I’m just bad at it and I don’t feel like learning, when there are such good hair stylists in New York.”

Lauren Santo Domingo’s Online Trunk Show Startup Has Already Raised $1.15 million

Lauren Santo Domingo’s Online Trunk Show Startup Has Already Raised $1.15 million

We’d heard rumblings last month that Lauren Santo Domingo was launching an online trunk show business. According to a Form D filed recently, that’s very true.

In fact, Trunk Show Inc. has already raised a $1.15 million venture capital round, led by New Atlantic Ventures, a firm that usually offers seed money to young companies. Their investments typically run between $500,000 and $5 million.

Trunk Show’s concept is simple: The site will livestream fashion shows, and members–we’re assuming it’ll be by-invite-only–will be able to order looks almost immediately, straight from the designers/manufacturers. We’re also assuming some designers will offer a 10-30% discount, given that most designers offer a small discount at their trunk shows.

Santo Domingo’s partner in this thing is Aslaug Magnusdottir, who used to work for Marvin Traub at TSM Capital.

If this is executed well, it could be freaking amazing. The concept takes the best of Net-a-Porter and Gilt Groupe and combines them into one powerhouse that could further democratize fashion.
