If you blinked (or ran off to go to the bathroom during some of the musical numbers) you may have missed the quickie wardrobe changes during last night’s Oscars ceremony. Several actresses–like Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron–changed out of their red carpet gowns into, well, other red carpet-ready gowns, for their on-stage performances.

In Les Misérables, the character of Fantine has much bigger issues to deal with than whether her shoes are made of leather–she was probably thrilled to have any shoes at all. But Anne Hathaway, who plays her in the upcoming movie version, has different priorities.
According to Footwear News, all of Fantine’s shoes had to be custom-made to be vegan for the actress.
