In Defense Of Our Criticized Sao Paulo Fashion Week Post: Our own Leah Chernikoff has received some backlash from Brazil this week for her post, “The Top Ten Most Outrageous Looks From Sao Paulo Fashion Week”–apparently lots of people didn’t see it for what it was: fun and silly. The blog Made in Brazil has come to her defense, citing the many favorable reviews Chernikoff wrote about the designers seen during the week. {Made in Brazil}

Lily Allen Launches Her Own Line–Plus Sketches From the Collection

Lily Allen Launches Her Own Line–Plus Sketches From the Collection

When Lily Allen and her sister Sarah Owen opened their vintage shop Lucy in Disguise six months ago, Allen told Elle UK that she decided to open a store because “a) we love vintage and b) we’re not clothing designers.” Seems Allen will have to eat her words. Today brings news that Allen and her sister are launching an 18-piece ready-to-wear collection of dresses, inspired, naturally, by their favorite vintage pieces.

According to Vogue UK online, LVMH menswear style director Nadia Jones (sister of LVMH menswear style director Kim Jones) “helps Lily and Sarah create the styles from the vintage pieces they find – merging favourite details from the neckline of a dress or hem of a skirt to create their own designs.”

The collection launches in June–exclusively at Harvey Nichols in the UK and at Shopbop.com in the US–as well as at Lucy at Disguise in store and online. SheFinds is also reporting that Topshop will carry the line, dubbing Allen the “new Kate Moss for Topshop.”Update: SheFinds contacted us and apparently the Topshop news is false.

Fashion News Roundup: Natalia Vodianova Runs a Half Marathon/Walks Givenchy Four Hours Later, Kelly Cutrone’s Clothing Line, and Lindsay Wixson Doesn’t Finish Paris Fashion Week

Lindsay Wixson Says ‘Au Revoir’ to Paris Fashion Week: The young model left Paris earlier this week after suffering from an allergic reaction caused by make-up. No particular show was blamed but we can’t imagine a face full of red make up at Victor & Rolf was good for anyone’s skin. Wixson will be missed at upcoming major shows like McQueen and Vuitton. {Vogue UK}

Armani’s Spring Collection On Screen: Giorgio Armani is the latest designer to jump on the fashion on film bandwagon. The film, entitled “The Color of the Night,” features Karen Elson in Armani’s flowing ‘Le Femme Bleue’ collection. Stills from the video can be found in the march issue of Interview. {Interview Magazine}

Lily Allen to Wed in Chanel: After starring in a Chanel handbag campaign and singing live at the house’s Spring 2010 runway show, it’s no surprise that Lily Allen has turned to Karl Lagerfeld to design her wedding dress. The singer will tie the knot with her beau Sam Cooper later this year. {Telegraph}

Lily Allen and Sister Sarah Owen Have Made Lucy in Disguise London’s Top Vintage Shop
Fashion Is Fun

Lily Allen and Sister Sarah Owen Have Made Lucy in Disguise London’s Top Vintage Shop

LONDON–Let’s say you have haute-vintage taste on a bric-a-brac budget. What’s a girl to do during the busy party season with nothing (new) to wear?

Enter UK popstar Lily Allen and her sister Sarah Owen. The duo’s London shop, Lucy In Disguise, will rescue you with rare vintage garments and accessories, including mint condition gowns by Ossie Clark, YSL, Chanel and Alaia and Biba. The twist? They’re rentals, starting at just £35. (About $55.) But if you do you fall in love with it on the first date, everything is for sale, too. (Of course, the prices are much higher.)

Now, the Covent Garden shop, which launched in September, has opened a private boudoir called With Diamonds, where you and your besties can get retro nose-to-tail with a hair, makeup and nail salon, not to mention an era-inspired private bar. That means you can gather a few friends for tea a la Marlene Dietrich–or for a champagne and strawberries pre-party–while you get your Stevie Nicks alter-ego into a wide-leg pantsuit. Fashionista chats with Sarah Owen about the idea behind Lucy In Disguise…and With Diamonds.

Lily Allen’s New Fashion Career: Allen and her sister Sarah Owen toasted the opening of Lucy in Disguise, the former musician’s new vintage retail venture. London’s Burning

“Geez”, muttered a friend Wednesday night. We’re standing in a jam packed club – not even a famous one – heaving with human traffic and queueing for £14 drinks. “What recession?” Indeed what recession — it’s certainly not in London. After a manic LFW, one would expect everything to calm down for a moment, for Read more →
