The Most Extreme Hair from the Met Gala Red Carpet

Sure, some celebs chose to ignore the punk theme at last night’s Met Gala completely. (Couldn’t you at least have worn a token spike or two, Anna Wintour?) But we were pleasantly surprised to see how many celebs did make an effort, especially with their hair and makeup.

Click through to see the Met Gala’s riskiest ‘dos and learn how they were conceived and created.

From Best Dressed to Best Ass, We Present Our Fashion Prom Met Ball Superlatives

Last night’s Costume Institute Gala may have been filled almost exclusively with famous rich people in formalwear, but we think they all brought something special to the table. While awards shows like the Oscars tend to elicit a stream of boring, predictable people and ensembles, the Met Ball brings out unexpected pairings, bold gowns and Read more →

A High School Junior Reports: 10 Things I Learned at Teen Vogue Fashion University About Getting a Job in Fashion (Hint: Rap)

Every year teens from across the globe flock to Teen Vogue‘s annual Fashion University in hopes of rubbing elbows with fashion’s elite and networking to score that dream internship. The three-day event features seminars and parties for the aspiring teen magazine editors, models, photographers and designers. This year I was lucky enough to attend. I sat in on seminars lead by Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Linda Fargo and Teen Vogue editors.

Here’s what I learned:

Fashion News Roundup: Mankini and Jeggings Added to the Dictionary, Karl Lagerfeld on Ugly Children, and Lara Stone is Getting a Shrine on FNO

Mankini and Jeggings Added to the Oxford Dictionary: The dictionary’s editor says that words were added to the new 12th edition based on their use in texts and websites. Are there some popular mankini fan sites that we don’t know about? {Glamour}

Oscar de la Renta’s First Fragrance in a Decade: The floral scent, called “Live in Love,” was given its’ name after Oscar saw the words in tattoo form on the arm of an employee. The fragrance launches on October 15th, and Oscar thinks you’re going fall in love with it. {WWD, Subscription Required}

Cathy Horyn Is No Fan of Fashion’s Night Out: The critic gripes that the costs of security and traffic “outweigh the benefits,” and adds that many retailers are doing well and don’t need the night to help boost sales anyways. {NY Times}

Fashion Group International Crowns Rising Stars

Fashion Group International Crowns Rising Stars

Yesterday the fashion elite trudged through the snow, changed out of their snow boots and slipped into their four-inch heels, to attend the Fashion Group International’s 14th annual Rising Star Awards at Cipriani’s in midtown.

While Fashion Group International’s (FGI) annual celeb-saturated “Night of Stars” event tends to grab more column inches and flashbulbs, host Jamie Pallot, Condé Nast Digital’s editorial director, stressed the importance of “Rising Stars” for recognizing emerging talent that needs the exposure more than the established design stars feted on “Night of Stars.” But Norma Kamali, who gave the opening remarks, questioned stardom. “What happens if you don’t become a star?” she asked. “I never wanted to be a star…I’m just my own little constellation doing my thing and I love it a lot.”

Whether yesterday’s winners will become “stars” remains to be seen. But what is clear is that the winners and all the nominees in categories ranging from fine jewelry to interior design to men’s and women’s apparel are talented folks whose careers will hopefully benefit from their nods from FGI. The stars came in the way of presenters–Lauren Bush, Linda Fargo and Catherine Malandrino were all on hand to doll out awards.

So who took home a Rising Star award?

Mayor Bloomberg Talks Fashion’s Night Out While Anna Wintour, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Other CFDA Members Stand There

After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.

Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.

Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.

Just kidding – sort of.

Phillip, Andre, Linda, Oh My!

Ed. note: We’re backpedaling for a moment, to the last night of New York, before heading back to London. When I said things couldn’t get better than my night with Narciso, I meant it.
