H&M has been really busy lately.
On the heels of the release of their Beyonce-fronted campaign and their annual sustainability report, comes more exciting news from the retailer: A new collection inspired by four of the industry’s most recognizable (and beautiful) faces–Joan Smalls, Daphne Groeneveld, Lindsey Wixson, Liu Wen–set to hit stores mid April, Vogue UK is reporting.

When I woke up this morning and hit my Twitter feed (sadly, the second thing I do after making coffee), people in Milan were abuzz about Karl Lagerfeld’s fur-heavy fall Fendi show. Even the sunglasses and shoes were furry! But what caught my attention were the fur faux-hawks–which I’m now dubbing “fur-hawks.”

Apparently Wearing Makeup Makes You More Likable: Studies conducted by Procter & Gamble, which (a bit suspiciously) produces a huge array of makeup products, show that women who wear makeup are perceived as more likable, competent, and trustworthy than those who do not. Why build to a dramatic finish when you can open with a bang? At least that seemed to be Oscar de la Renta‘s philosophy when he presented his spring 2012 collection yesterday at a gritty unfinished space on W. 42nd St.–a move from the Upper East Side Park Ave. location where he’s been showing for years. Models burst out onto the runway in silk taffeta ball gowns in marigold, emerald and tomato that billowed down the longest runway I’ve ever seen to a soundtrack of, get this, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Really.
There were still plenty of embroidered and crocheted cocktail day appropriate for de la Renta’s core ladies-who-lunch clientele, but with the new show space and bad ass rock soundtrack the designer seemed to be turning over a new leaf with renewed energy. If you needed more proof that there was a new Oscar in town this season, look no further than the youthful star-studded front row. While de la Renta’s front row is usually stacked with his posh friends and buyers, this season Justin Timberlake was there (we overheard him exchanging pleasantries and tennis with Anna Wintour), a few seats down from him was Ashley Olsen (she and JT were both wearing black suits), and across from Ashley was New York fashion week’s unexpected new star, Nicki Minaj (she wasn’t wearing pants and had on a tiger hat complete with ears). The tanned glory that is Valentino Garavani was also there, a few chairs down from Barbara Walters.
But back to the clothes.
Lindsay Wixson Says ‘Au Revoir’ to Paris Fashion Week: The young model left Paris earlier this week after suffering from an allergic reaction caused by make-up. No particular show was blamed but we can’t imagine a face full of red make up at Victor & Rolf was good for anyone’s skin. Wixson will be missed at upcoming major shows like McQueen and Vuitton. {Vogue UK}
Armani’s Spring Collection On Screen: Giorgio Armani is the latest designer to jump on the fashion on film bandwagon. The film, entitled “The Color of the Night,” features Karen Elson in Armani’s flowing ‘Le Femme Bleue’ collection. Lily Allen to Wed in Chanel: After starring in a Chanel handbag campaign and singing live at the house’s Spring 2010 runway show, it’s no surprise that Lily Allen has turned to Karl Lagerfeld to design her wedding dress. Ecco Domani Gives Emerging Designers $25,000 Each: The Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation awarded $25,000 grants to seven labels this year: Bibhu Mohapatra, The Lake & Stars, M.Patmos, Mandy Coon, Native Son, Pamela Love, and Study NY for sustainable design.
