Last night we headed over to Carnegie Hall for a night of inspiration, heart-warming speeches and, most importantly, girl power. For those of you who don’t know, we are of course talking about Glamour‘s Women of the Year awards.

The annual event, which honors extraordinary women, this year doled out awards to the year’s standout stars–from the most talked about songstresses like Lea Michele and J.Lo to the visionaries who truly changed the world, such as Egypt’s “Facebook Girl” and Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, as well as legends like feminist Gloria Steinem.

While the there were too many wise words to count (Arianna Huffington reminding us that “failure is just a stepping stone to success,” Gloria Steinem assuring us that there is life after 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, “life is just one big surprise”) we’ve managed to at least narrow down the night’s best dressed. Though with ladies as remarkable as these, that too was a challenge. Click through to see the best dressed from the night.

Earlier this month, I got the chance to escape the craziness that is the fashion schedule and kick it with Liya Kebede down in Montauk where she was shooting her latest look book for her line Lem Lem. And it was hard not to feel like I’d really escaped the city, seeing as how the set–Chandelier Creative’s Montauk surf shack–was festooned with ten blow-up swans who were enjoying the ocean view along with the models.

It was the perfect setting for a collection grounded in easy, beachy woven pieces–the look we’ve come to know and love from Lem Lem. This season, though, Kebede had more in mind than just the beach: “Now we’re making it more city with little shorts and dresses.”

Lem Lem was established to save weaving artisan enclaves in Kebede’s native Ethiopia–but has since become a fashion industry favorite, even nabbing one of J.Crew’s coveted “In Good Company” partnerships.

Still, at its heart, Lem Lem is all about empowering the Ethiopian artisans it in employs.

Liya Kebede will join L’Oreal Paris as a spokesmodel and global brand ambassador, the cosmetics brand announced today.

The prolific model has tons of editorials and a few ad campaigns under her belt, but this is her first gig as an ambassador for a major brand, unless you count the World Trade Organization, for whom Kebede was nominated as Goodwill Ambassador, before establishing the Liya Kebede Foundation to raise money and provide healthcare material for a hospital in Ethiopia. Kebede has also dipped her foot into acting with roles in The Good Shepherd and Desert Flower.

Kebede, who despite other projects, is known primarily for modeling, joins L’Oreal’s roster of comparatively bigger celebrities like Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Julianna Margulies and Freida Pinto, with whom, according to IMDB, Kebede just completed a film.

Amazing pairs include Rodarte and Kanye, M.I.A. and Donatella Versace, Karl and Janelle Monae (Lagerfeld’s quote: “And Janelle rhyme’s with Chanel, no?”). {W}

Carine Roitfeld To Launch An Independent Magazine? Forget about French Harper’s Bazaar. The latest rumor swirling around Paris is that the stylist might launch her own indie magazine. Sounds similar to what Olivier Zahm was spewing at New York Fashion Week last February. {Hint}

Weird Al Parodies Born This Way: It’s hilarious, especially since Al’s head is digitally fixed onto a male dancer’s body and sort of bobbles. {Styleite}

Fans of Brad Goreski are getting another chance to peek inside his world. Rachel Zoe’s former assistant, who recently scored Jessica Alba as a client, has launched a blog, aptly named Brad’s Blog.

The stylist’s first post features images from the March InStyle spread he edited–featuring Liya Kebede in Spring 2011 Jil Sander–as well as his Details shoot with Christian Slater. (Who looks really hot in the photo, by the way. Seriously.)

Piers Morgan Has Got a Thing for Grace Coddington: Well, who doesn’t? Apparently the CNN host, who is set to take over for Larry King on January 17, approached Coddington at the Waverly Inn recently to tell her that she was his “idol” but Coddington couldn’t place him. “You had me in your magazine, remember?” he told her. “Then she remembered. Or pretended to,” Morgan told Page Six. {Page Six}

The Barbie Doll’d Up Nails Digital Nail Printer Looks Awesome and We Want One: We love some good nail art and this Barbie contraption can churn out some pretty impressive (and seasonal!) designs. {StyleList}

Anja Rubik and Liya Kebede Star In Lacoste’s Spring Campaign:
For the past five years Lacoste’s campaigns have used the same tagline, “Un Peu d’Air Sur Terre” (“a little air on the ground”) but they’re switching it up this spring with a new line: “Unconventional Chic.” The campaign, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, features Anja Rubik, Liya Kebede, Jon Kortajarena, and Noah Mills wearing white polos over black eveningwear. {The Cut}
