How I’m Making It: Style Like U

I’m embarrassed to admit the insane number of hours I’ve spent on Style Like U. If you’ve never heard of the site, it’s an inspiring hodgepodge of fashion editorials, content, images and documentary-style videos that feature the closets of interesting people with interesting style.

Shooting a stylish person’s closet isn’t a new concept, but Style Like U is definitely in a league of its own. Unlike most fashion publications that solely cover the closets of celebrities and socialites, Style Like U features everyone from New York City students to RZA of the Wu Tang Clan to fashion industry bigwigs like artist Terence Koh and super stylist Lori Goldstein. And the videos go beyond the subjects’ clothes. Founders Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum uncover interviewees’ thoughts and philosophies about style and life.

Big changes are on the horizon for the site–their book Style Like U will be available next April–so I caught of with the mom-and-daughter team at their East Village
apartment, the Style Like U headquarters, for this installment of “How I’m Making It.”

Glamour‘s Cute Jewelry Line for HSN Launches Today

Glamour‘s Cute Jewelry Line for HSN Launches Today

From iPad apps to television shows, magazines are more dedicated than ever to finding alternative revenue streams. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

This time around, we think it’ll work. Glamour, one of the most well-read magazines in the country, has teamed up with the Home Shopping Network to design a line of affordable jewelry (each piece rings in at under $100). The collection launched this morning at 2am EST on HSN, where Glamour.com‘s Tracey Lomrantz discussed the ins and outs of fall trends–military, lace, etc.–and how they applied to the magazine’s line of baubles. She’ll be shilling yet again at 1pm, 2pm, and 11pm EST time today.

It makes sense for Glamour to get into this particular game. Rachel Zoe, Janie Bryant, Lori Goldstein…the list of fashion insiders that have embraced television shopping is virtually endless. So Glamour‘s move is just right. Not only are the pieces accessible–much like the magazine–they’re also quite appealing. We saw Tracey donning one of the necklaces at an event last week and noticed it immediately.

Click through to see for yourself. And watch Tracey today on HSN–we’re rooting for her! And Glamour.

The CFDA Journal Features Alex Wang, Joseph Altuzurra and Marc Jacobs…Sort Of

The CFDA Journal Features Alex Wang, Joseph Altuzurra and Marc Jacobs…Sort Of

The CFDA has released images from its annual journal, which will be dolled out at next Monday’s awards ceremony. Shot by Sølve Sundsbø and styled by Lori Goldstein, Trey Laird of Laird+Partners did the creative direction.

We’re huge fans of Alex Wang‘s page, which includes his six best friends from high school. We’re also loving Prabal Gurung‘s image. It’s so ’80s–in a good way. Marc Jacobs is absent in his story, save for a dozen or so Xerox scans of his face, held up by models donning fur coats.

Lori Goldstein’s Styling Vogue‘s CFDA Editorial

Super stylist Lori Goldstein just tweeted about next week’s CFDA shoot. She’s assembling her racks of clothes and what looks like rows of Converse, for what we can only assume is Vogue‘s big CFDA-centric editorial. Sasha starred in their Fashion Fund editorial last fall, while Karlie landed last summer’s portfolio shot by Norman Jean Roy. Read more →
