PARIS–“The fabrics are specially made in mills in Italy where there is still an appreciation for craftsmanship,” said Lucas Ossendrijver at Lanvin’s temporary showroom on the Seine as we stood before a navy wool jacket reinforced with neoprene at the shoulders.
Tailoring has always been the base of Lanvin’s menswear since the first collection in 2005 but in this season’s spectacular collection Ossendrijver fused tailoring with technological innovations and sportswear elements to make the clothes right for the moment.
PARIS–Lucas Ossendrijver designs Lanvin’s men’s line, not Alber Elbaz, the genius behind their women’s (and the character from Alice in Wonderland that Lewis Carroll never wrote). In his short time at Lanvin, Ossendrijver has blown critics away, transferring the simple, sporty elegance that Elbaz has brought to women’s across to men’s.
But Ossendrivjver and and Elbaz share more than an employer (that would be Taiwanese media heavy Shaw-Lan Wang).
We received word this morning from H&M that Lanvin designers Alber Elbaz (womenswear) and Lucas Ossendrijver (menswear) are indeed creating a capsule collection for H&M.
The line will launch in North America on November 20 and the rest of the world on November 23. (November 20 is the day after Black Friday, which means H&M is sure to be doubly crazy that weekend.) Looks will be revealed in a film debuting on hm.com November 2, just a few weeks before they hit stores.
Until then, we’ll be dreaming of draped, 1940s-inspired dresses in juicy, fresh colors. Au revoir for now….
