How to Avoid a Fashion Week Meltdown

We’re approaching the home stretch of New York Fashion Week, which means many of our attitudes have shifted from excited and energetic to when-will-this-be-over? So, we asked some of fashion’s busiest bees to tell us what they do to stay sane (and no we don’t mean pharmaceuticals–though those certainly aren’t off-limits). From Jenna Lyons’ many coats, to BryanBoy’s cathartic Instagramming, click through for their (and our) tips and tricks!

Attend New York Fashion Week From Your Couch: A Complete List of Shows Livestreaming This Week

New York is unreasonably cold right now. Like impending-blizzard-freeze-your-Rag & Bone-covered-butt-off cold. This is exactly why we, and fashionistas nowhere near New York, are praising the fashion gods (more like IMG & various PR people) for the glorious amount of New York fashion week shows livestreaming this week. We wrangled 89 shows (89!) and presentations to tune into over the course of the next week…with even more coming in! The best part? You won’t be judged for taking in these shows in your pjs over some popcorn or pizza or half a bottle of wine…

See any shows we missed? Let us know!

It Was Hot in Miami: The Best (and Weirdest) Looks from the Swimwear Shows

It Was Hot in Miami: The Best (and Weirdest) Looks from the Swimwear Shows

The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week swimwear shows just finished in Miami. The swim shows are interesting because the models smile a lot more, everything is super colorful, and everyone’s mostly naked. It’s also the only place in the world–outside of a reality show set in LA–where a bikini with really high heels actually makes sense. Asses also figure very prominently, from the strategic coverage of them, to using them as a billboard for advertising. Intrigued?

Click through to see a roundup of the best, coolest, and silliest things from the Miami swim runways this past week.

Last Night’s Party: Mandy Coon, Frank Tell, Mara Hoffman, and More Celebrate with W Hotels

In a city known for tourism, chic boutique hotels are a dime a dozen. Still, how many of them boast their very own Global Fashion Director? Last night, we hit the W Hotel in Times Square to toast the company’s new crop of Fashion Next designers. And for a hotel so well known for their contemporary aesthetic, the program seems to be a total no-brainer. “W’s passion is design,” explained Eva Ziegler, the hotel’s Global Brand Leader. “And this is just an extension of our point of view. We want to give these emerging designers a global platform.”

This year’s crop of honorees—Mara Hoffman, Frank Tell, Mandy Coon, Tess Giberson, and Michael Angel—were in full celebration mode.

I Need, I Want, I Have to Have: Anything by Electric Feathers

This weekend Fashionista relocated to the Surf Lodge in Montauk to work on some exciting new features for the site. (You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out…). But just because we were working doesn’t mean we didn’t take a quick break to shop the venue’s pitch-perfect pocket-sized boutique.

Stocked with Suno, Mara Hoffman, Lisa Marie Fernandez, and the most adorable kids clothing by Lemlem, it was hard not to want everything in the store. Even the kids’ clothes. But the designs that caught my eye were the lighter-than-air hand-dyed silk creations–tunics and wrap dresses–by label Electric Feathers.

Fashion Week For Miami Beach Bums

Fashion Week For Miami Beach Bums

Yesterday was the last day of Miami’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. We happen to live in a city where the opportunities to don a swimsuit are few and far between, which is presumably why this five-day event is held in a place like Miami, where swimsuits are de riguer.

Our lack of swimsuit-wearing opportunities means we don’t need very many, which also means we get to be extra choosy when picking them out. Or, it means realizing while packing last-minute for an impromptu trip to the Hamptons that you don’t own a swimsuit and running into Old Navy on 34th on your way to the train to buy the first one you see in your size. This is not ideal, so in the interest of being prepared for either situation, we look, with several grains of salt, to Miami Fashion Week.

Miami is not a place that most would consider to be on the forefront of fashion.
