11-Year-Old Daughter of Oasis’ Noel Gallagher Snags Modeling Contract, Kate Moss Comparisons

British fashion sites have been buzzing about a new face who is poised to take the modeling world by storm–some going as far as suggesting she may be the next Kate Moss. And at 11 years old, she’s one of the young ones. She also happens to be the offspring of rock royalty–and really, really pretty. We mentioned her in our news roundup yesterday, but here are some more details.

Anais Gallagher, who turns twelve in a couple of weeks, is the progeny of former Oasis member Noel Gallagher and his ex-wife Meg Matthews. It was Matthews’ proud tweet of a Mario Testino-lensed photo of her daughter that sent everyone into Anais Gallagher obsession. In fact, she tweeted the same photo twice in one day, which may be a little stage mom-ish, but we can hardly blame her–the photo (above) is gorge.

The Best Magazine Covers of 2011

Dont judge a book by its cover… Unless it’s a magazine, in which case, sometimes the cover is the deciding factor of whether or not to buy the mag altogether.

The best covers of 2011 returned to a new naturalism and a fun aesthetic, like the Lara Stone T cover we’re still drooling over, pictured at left. Sure, there’s still room for artifice in fashion (see: Stella Tennant on Vogue Italia), but 2011 was a year for reflecting on natural beauties, incredible models, and stellar photography.

After toiling over hundred of covers, we’re bringing you “The Best” according to us. Did we forget your favorite? Let us know in the comments.

This Year in Vogue: An Analysis of all the Covers from 2011

Gisele Bundchen, the modelling equivalent of the Energizer bunny, graced a total of eight Vogue covers this year, more than any other model or celebrity. It was a close race, but Gisele managed to nab the top spot with highlights that include Emmanelle Alt’s first official issue of Vogue Paris, a delightfully tacky December cover of Vogue UK, and a July issue of Vogue Brazil dedicated solely to her. Not bad. Conde Nast has obviously been taking full advantage of the “Gisele Bundchen Stock Index.”

Eighteen editions of Vogue (up to nineteen with the release Vogue Netherlands next year, yay!) producing, on average, 12 covers a month certainly gives us a lot to play around with. With all the importance placed on a cover–the selling point of a magazine–we wanted to see what Vogues worldwide deemed best to put on the front of their glossies, so we went ahead and crunched the numbers.

Above is our little mock-up to represent 2011. Perhaps it’s a little flashier (okay, tackier) than most magazines you’ll see on a newsstand, but we feel it’s an accurate representation of the year. To make a little more sense out of it, click through to find out specifics of the who, the what, and the wear.

Fashionista Flashcards: Everything You Need to Know About Today’s Top Fashion Photographers
Fashion Is Fun

Fashionista Flashcards: Everything You Need to Know About Today’s Top Fashion Photographers

In the world of fashion there is a small yet consistent collection of photographers who get the majority of work for major publications and brands. In fact, many of them seem to have quite the monopoly on the fashion world. Legends like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn continued to work prolifically up until the time they passed away, and that seems to be what is so great about being behind the camera instead of in front of it. Top photographers are given the chance to work for years in an industry where most figures are in one day and out the next.

But how do we differentiate one top photographer from another? We’ll show you what to look for from visual style, what publications they regularly appear in, as well as recent ongoing collaborations with brands and models of some of the top working fashion photographers of today. Click through to get started!

Carine Roitfeld to Launch Magazine; Clothing and Make-up Lines May Also Be In the Works

Carine Roitfeld to Launch Magazine; Clothing and Make-up Lines May Also Be In the Works

In news that makes us really, really happy: Carine Roitfeld is slated to launch her own magazine.

While Roitfeld stays mum on many of the details, the former Vogue Paris editrix said in an interview for Dazed & Confused that she hopes to start a “really iconic magazine that’s fresh and exciting.” The magazine will “be something less frequent than a month” and will be printed in English. “There is no value in it being in French,” she said, “It needs to be international.”

According to ELLE, Roitfeld isn’t the only big-name fashion industry player involved: Marie-Amelie Sauve, Mario Testino and Stephen Gan–aka “the dream team”–will also play a role in the as-yet-unnamed publication. No doubt, with so many talented people involved, the magazine is sure to be a huge success.

Report: Anna Wintour Wants To Put Kate Middleton on the Cover of Vogue

Kate Middleton a Vogue covergirl? Anna Wintour reportedly wants to make it happen.

According to Page Six, Vogue‘s Editor in Chief has been campaigning to snag the Duchess of Cambridge as the magazine’s next cover star. Apparently, since the announcement of Middleton’s engagement to Prince William, magazines have been clamoring to get the “modern princess” on their cover–but landing the Duchess is trickier than it sounds, as, “the Palace must approve it, and they are very protective of Kate,” a source told Page Six.

That being said, if anyone can get the job done it’s Anna.

Karlie Kloss Poses Nearly Nude For Mario Testino in Allure: Does It Make You Uncomfy?

Images of a nearly nude Karlie Kloss shot by Mario Testino from Allure‘s October 2011 issue have started making the internet rounds. While the photos aren’t raunchy in the least, they’re still somewhat controversial given Karlie is only 19-years-old, and is often thought of (and referred to) as a “teen model.” The people over at Fashion Copious seem pretty outraged, saying, “No agent/agency should [any longer] allow their girls to be shot by Testino.”

Many Fashion Spot commenters also took issue with the shoot. Ivyinthemood said, “I don’t really like that she is naked…,” while commenter Vanity Fair said “omg, I feel that this is such [sic].. inappropriate.” Lifeispeachy seemed to sum up the general consensus, saying “it’s still so weird to see her like that.”

We have to say, we, too, were pretty surprised to see Kloss in such an overtly sexual, partially nude shoot.

All the September Issues, Analyzed: Find Out Which Look, Which Model, and Which Photog Scored the Most Covers

For the past month, we’re sure that you’ve heard time and time again about the importance of the September issue. It is one of those fashion truths we hold to be self-evident. But what does that really mean, and why? Yes, it’s the month which produces magazines that can be used as semi-violent weapons, where ads skyrocket and page numbers are reported on covers like baseball stats, but the truth is that the content of those magazine hold what editors consider to be the best of the upcoming fall season.

For this reason, we decided to put the September issue under a microscope. We’ve scoured dozens of issues from around the world, and now it’s time to take a look at which designers, photographers and models were sought after for the most important issue of the year.

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012: Parkas, Prints and Kanye West in the Front Row

Burberry was the show to be at this week in London. The biggest venue we’ve been to all week–a tent set up in Kensington Gardens–was barely able to contain the star power of Kanye West (his second show of the day), Sienna Miller, Samantha “Sam Cam” Cameron, and a drop-dead-gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Fashion royalty was there, too, in the form of Anna Wintour, Olivier Theyskens, Rachel Zoe, and Mario Testino.

The show live-streamed on multiple sources (including Fashionista!) and once again the label is putting the spring goods on sale right away–though you have to wait a few months before they ship. So what would we buy?
