Sunday’s shows at Milan Fashion Week may have had a little competition from another catwalk of the red carpet variety, but that didn’t stop some highly original looks from accepting best dressed status. From Marni’s austerity chic to Dolce & Gabbana‘s incredibly decorative take on religious frescoes, there was more than one way to get Twitter–and the critics–talking.

Let me guess, you aren’t reading this post from Milan, are you? No? Me either. That’s why all of us sitting at our desks right now can be grateful that Milan’s designers have fully embraced the live stream. Can you say P-R-A-D-A? And hello Ferragamo and Gucci! So, take a bathroom break at school/work/set an alarm to wake up at 2:30 in the morning to watch from your bed, glue yourself to your smartphone/computer and relish your front row seat at Milan’s hottest shows.
The more we know about Solange Knowles the more she seems like a normal down-to-earth girl that we’d want to hang out with. In a not creepy way, we swear. Last night she attended the CFDA awards with one of our other favorite people in fashion, Jenna Lyons. And since Solange wasn’t even wearing J.Crew (she was wearing an awesome yellow pailette-covered Marni number) we’re pretty sure Solange and Jenna just came together just because they’re buddies. But we had to ask, of course.
Fashionista: So, first, the requisite question, what are you wearing tonight?
Solange: I’m wearing Marni and Missoni shoes and I probably should not have eaten two bags of bbq chips before I got in it, nothing I can do about that now. We actually got here a little early and I was in the car and I was like, ‘I’m so hungry!” so we stopped.
Next very important question, what brand?
While everyone has been busy drooling over Marni for H&M‘s quirky prints, designer Marni Consuelo Castiglioni had a more streamlined and graphic vibe in mind for her Fall 2012 collection.
The first look to come out–a bright red cape coat, paired with pale blue trousers and a blouse with a black collar–set the tone for the sharp-lined and boldly colorful show. Next came a series of dresses and coats, which followed the same aesthetic: Dresses were colorblocked and graphic, and the outerwear was belted at the waist and neck, and all were adorned with ample square pockets. One of our favorite looks was a skirt and shirt combo, which had a modern, geometric print in an intrinsically Marni palette of blush, black and brown.
