Teen Vogue‘s Mary Kate Steinmiller On Her New Jewelry Collaboration With The Webster and Mercedes-Benz

Miami swim week kicks off tomorrow. While the abbreviated fashion week gets as much attention for the t and a on display as it does for the swimwear, a new collab to promote Miami swim caught our eye. Hot Miami boutique The Webster, which the rest of the country has had been fortunate enough to have chance to shop lately as it’s one of the shop-in-shops at Target, has teamed up with show sponsor Mercedes-Benz and Teen Vogue editor Mary Kate Steinmiller on a jewelry collections. For those of you who don’t know, Steinmiller is an accomplished jewelry designer as well as a full time editor and street style catnip. In fact, her jewelry making skills probably helped land that Teen Vogue job.

We caught up with Steinmiller to get all the details on her new collection for The Webster, how she got into making jewelry (she makes every piece by hand), and how she balances accessory design with a full time job at Teen Vogue.

Fashion Industry Insiders Dish: My Most Embarrassing Fashion Week Moment

Here’s the thing about fashion week: it’s ripe for embarrassing moments. Why? Everyone gets dressed to the nines, wears their highest heels, and is so worried about how they look, and how everyone else thinks they look, that when something goes awry cheeks instantly go bright red. And it doesn’t help that everyone is looking down at their phones when they should be looking at the rope of wires that’s about to trip them. We’ve spent the last few days poling everyone from editors to stylists to designers for their most embarrassing moments. And they really are embarrassing. Read about Simon Doonan having his fly unzipped at a very inopportune time, Jenna Lyons getting moved from her front row seat, Betsey Johnson’s g-string slip, and many, many , more. Remember YM? Consider this the “Say Anything” for the fashion industry.

Here Are the 10 Biggest Breakout Street Style Starlets from 2011

Giovanna Battaglia, and Shala Monroque continued their dominion over the internet, but 2011 also introduced the world to a new crop of editors, stylists, and buyers who have envy-inducing style.

The best part is watching someone’s style grow dynamically in front of the lens. These aren’t the girls putting on full looks from the runway, they’re pulling items from their own wardrobes and mixing them with new trends. If there’s anyone to idolize for having great style, we think it’s this new bunch.

Taylor Tomasi Hill Leaves Marie Claire for Moda Operandi–So Who Will Be the Mag’s New Face?

According to the New York Times, Taylor Tomasi Hill has left her post as style and accessories director at Marie Claire to become the artistic director for retail site Moda Operandi.

It’s an impressive coup for Moda Operandi, which, according to the paper, also managed to poach Gilt’s Roopal Patel, especially since the site only just launched in February. It’s also a huge loss for Marie Claire, who really used Taylor in all her fashion-forward, unbelievably gorgeous, street-style-fodder, glory as the poster child for their recent fashion-y makeover, having wooed her away from her former post at Teen Vogue with, we assume, a hefty paycheck and lots of perks.

A High School Junior Reports: 10 Things I Learned at Teen Vogue Fashion University About Getting a Job in Fashion (Hint: Rap)

Every year teens from across the globe flock to Teen Vogue‘s annual Fashion University in hopes of rubbing elbows with fashion’s elite and networking to score that dream internship. The three-day event features seminars and parties for the aspiring teen magazine editors, models, photographers and designers. This year I was lucky enough to attend. I sat in on seminars lead by Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Linda Fargo and Teen Vogue editors.

Here’s what I learned:

All Eyes on the Editors: Has Street Style Photography Created a New Unattainable Ideal for Women?

All Eyes on the Editors: Has Street Style Photography Created a New Unattainable Ideal for Women?

There’s no doubt about it: With the advent of street style blogs like The Sartorialist, Tommy Ton for Style.com, the Street Peeper and Altamira NYC, the landscape of Fashion Week has changed. With fashion editors’ and stylists’ outfits now being meticulously covered, what goes on off the runway has nearly eclipsed the collections.

Anyone who’s recently attended fashion week–or hell, anyone who’s been on the internet in the past year–will notice that the frenzy surrounding street style during fashion week has reached a fever pitch. Swarms of photographers crowd around the latest street style It-girl, angling (and sometimes shoving each other) to get the best picture. Unknowing tourists stop in their tracks, staring agape at the spectacle–some even start taking their own photos, thinking it must be a celebrity. Industry wannabes, dressed in over-the-top fashions, walk by “casually,” desperately hoping to catch the eye of a photographer.

Fashion week used to be a civilized industry event. Now it’s become a media circus, with both established editors, actresses and unknowns going to crazy lengths to get their fifteen minutes.Teen Vogue‘s Mary-Kate Steinmiller, who is street style fodder herself, told us, “I think everyone (yes, myself included) is guilty of what I like to call ‘peacocking’ and ‘baiting the razzi.’” Other editors have admitted to us that they’ve spent weeks prepping for the event, meticulously planning each outfit. One told us that she would change mid-day if she felt her outfit wasn’t up to snuff.

This deliberateness has surely had an effect on the authenticity of street style photography.

Madewell Introduces New Line Ace & Jig; ‘Hottest Editor’ Mary Kate Steinmiller Reacts to her Win

Anyone that’s a fan of Madewell is well acquainted with their cheery world of mismatched prepdom, which was served up alongside cupcakes, margaritas, and style experts Thursday night at the brand’s NYC flagship. An installment in their Denim after Dark event series (which has been running since 2008), the evening was a celebration for emerging brand Ace & Jig with special guest, Teen Vogue’s Mary-Kate Steinmiller.

The newly crowned hottest editor in the fashion land, an award bestowed on her after winning Racked’s much-talked-about poll, the perky style star was there to provide denim guidance to those in need. Sporting a new pink streak in her signature blond mop, the Steinmiller told us, “In honor of my hot editor win, I’ve dyed [a section of] my hair hot pink.

Fashion News Roundup: The Olsens Brought Toms to Honduras, Jane Pratt’s Exorbitant Speaking Fee and Australian Vogue‘s First Plus-Size Spread

The Olsens Gave Shoe Fittings in Central America: Mary-Kate and Ashley, who recently collaborated with Toms on a range of cashmere shoes, just took a trip with founder Blake Mycoskie to Honduras to personally give out shoes to needy kids in three different communities. Good for them!

Jane Pratt won’t wake up for less than $15,000: At least, she won’t speak for less than that. The Observer says that is the amount they were quoted by Pratt’s representation when they asked if the former Sassy editor would be available to “deliver a brief address to a small group a month from now, in New York.”
{New York Observer}

“Billie Jean” named most stylish video: GQ ranked the 30 most stylish music videos of all time. Michael Jackson took both the #30 and #1 spots for “Thriller” and “Billy Jean,” respectively. Though his red leather jacket in “Thriller” may be more memorable, Jackson’s leather suit (with cropped pants), bowtie, pink socks and oxfords were pretty inspiring. {GQ}

Robyn Lawley’s Vogue coup: Robyn Lawley, who covered Italian Vogue‘s recent plus-size issue, now stars in Australian Vogue‘s first-ever plus-size spread. {Frockwriter}
