20 Oscar-Worthy Dresses From the Fall Collections and Who Should Wear Them

While Oscar nominees probably start preparing their outfits the day they’re nominated, we pulled some dress options straight from the Fall 2012 collections just in case any nominees have been procrastinating.

Luckily for us, tons of gorgeous, Oscar-worthy dresses hit the runway for Fall 2012, from some moody options at Gucci to slinky and sexy looks from Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, and Zac Posen. Oh, and there’s Marchesa of course.

Click through our gallery to see what dresses we’d love to see on Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep, and all the other nominees. The State of Plus Size Shopping–Are Double Wide Changing Rooms Really the Answer?

Everyone has heard all the statistics about how people in the US and UK are getting larger every year. Add to that an increasingly skinny pool of starlets, models, and It-girls (and street style “stars”) and you suddenly have a very confusing picture about what’s reality. Throw in the vanity sizing that so many brands engage in, and shopping becomes a nightmare, especially if you fall under the “plus size” umbrella.

Emmy Winner and Bridesmaids Scene-Stealer Melissa McCarthy Is Designing a Plus-Size Line So She Doesn’t Have to Feel Like a ’98-Year-Old Woman or a 14-Year-Old Hooker’

Melissa McCarthy, newly-minted Emmy winner and hands-down the funniest character in Bridesmaids, has a meaty feature in the Hollywood Reporter. In it she talks about her upcoming projects–lots of new movies, and an SNL hosting gig, yay!–but what really caught our eye was an item about her design ambitions.

She designed her own Emmy gown, telling the Hollywood Reporter that after looking at “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows,” she gave in to a design passion she’s had since she was a teen, getting some help from dressmaker Daniella Pearl. And she’s not stopping at that one dress: she’s planning to launch a whole plus-size line. “Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible. It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle,” the 41-year-old mom of two said.
