Kimberly Ovitz Spring 2013

The Clothes: Kimberly Ovitz’s strong, whimsical vision for spring is a departure from last season’s darker collection, but still suggests the same confident woman. This season, fluidity and draping were contrasted with structure and sharp lines. There was a variety of pale silk dresses with raw finishes that all featured an unexpected element like a Read more →

Rumor: McQueen: Savage Beauty Going To London? A McQueen spokesperson said there have been tentative talks with some London venues but an official announcement will be made if/when they reach a decision. Though there’s no comment from the Met, this sounds like something, if not the exact exhibit, is in the works! {Telegraph}

An H&M spokesperson said it’s a preview of their full e-commerce launching next spring. Don’t worry if it sells out though–the full fall collection hit stores in two days. {WWD}

The fall cinema lineup is looking good! {Modelinia}

Rei Kawakubo Isn’t Excited About Fashion Anymore: She told the Wall Street Journal that “there are not enough of us believing in the same thing, that there is a kind of burnout, that people just want cheap fast clothes and are happy to look like everyone else.” I somewhat agree. {The Cut}

Fashion News Roundup: Preview the Elizabeth Taylor V Spread, See the NYFW Documentary and Vogue‘s Secret Site

Preview: Carine Roitfeld’s Elizabeth Taylor Spread In V’s September Issue: A behind-the-scenes video of Roitfeld’s homage to the Queen of Diamonds, which she shot with Mario Testino. It looks seriously decadent; I spy some Prada, electric blue eyeshadow and a jeweled tiger statuette. {Stylelist}

Weissensee Academy of Arts’ Graduate Fashion Show Features Berlin’s Future Stars

BERLIN–Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is making its twice-annual stop in Berlin, and one school that frequently pops up on local designers’ resumes is the city’s Weissensee Academy of Arts–the alma mater of creatives like c.neeon, Michael Sontag and Sam Frenzel.

Now, a new crop of graduates is gearing up to hit the scene. On Friday afternoon, one of the school’s final year students, Parsival Cserer, won German fashion retailer Peek & Cloppenburg’s prestigious Designer for Tomorrow award for his “Good Morning Miss Obama” collection, an ode to the First Lady translated into bright knit mini and maxi dresses and oversized cardigans.

A couple of hours later, Cserer’s classmates showed their graduate collections at See Fashion, Weissensee’s annual graduate show.

Hoping to spot some more noteworthy collections among the class of 2010, we took a closer look at the talent pool and talked to four promising students.

McQ at Milk

Having the Olsens and Alexander McQueen show their collections within the same New York Fashion Week is like not having to choose between the Alexa and the PS1 – but better. KCD, the PR firm responsible for both McQueen and McQ, usually holds market appointments for select editors to check out the new McQ collection Read more →

BMW Joins MAC & Milk

Now there’s no way the IMG folks, as in the ones that put on Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, are happy about this development. BMW is partnering with MAC & Milk, that show venue that they’ve all been saying (in public anyway) isn’t a direct competitor to the shows at Bryant Park. A fleet of 12 Beemers Read more →

Elise & Jen Embrace the Runway

The official Fashion Week calendar just dropped and so far we’ve learned that a lot of the big guys – Ralph, Oscar, Calvin – are throwing multiple shows. But it’s the little ones we’re more interested in; it’s a very good sign when they take the plunge from presentation to runway. As of now, both Read more →

Beauty

Maybe It’s Maybelline

We told you last week about MAC Cosmetics possible decision to abandon their role as the official makeup sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in favor of doing their own series of shows at Milk Studios.
