Michael Kors

We will admit it: we still love Project Runway. From Heidi’s short skirts and occasional whacked-out hairstyles to the ever-entertaining Michael Kors, it sucks us in every season (even though we pretend to be too cool for it.) But the main reason we keep coming back? Tim Gunn. We can listen to that man and his spectacular vocabulary forever. We think he is a nice person generally, but he can definitely have a sharp tongue and often has no filter when he speaks. We support this wholeheartedly.

To mark the beginning of Project Runway‘s ninth season, we bring you a round-up of Tim‘s best quotes ever, in no particular order (And no, we did not include, “Make it work.”)

The many twinkling candles at last night’s Glamour reception for Heidi Klum could only be matched by the supermodel’s equally incandescent Gucci mini and megawatt smile. The event, held at SoHo’s B&B wine bar, was a celebration of Klum’s August cover. Well-schvitzed guests piled in from the heat to sip sparkling rosé in minuscule outfits—which you know are weather appropriate when Michael Kors comments on friend Anne Christensen’s getup by saying, “the whole city should be wearing a romper!“

Designer Chris Benz, fresh off a New York mag centerfold, was there to celebrate the Glamour girl, who he describes as “embracing a certain level of intelligence that I always aspire to in my collections.” Nearby Maria Cornejo, who’ll soon be departing for the Greek Isles agreed: “They have a life, they’re real women. They approach fashion with a sense of humor and also intelligence.”

Nordstrom Spring Fashion: The Little Black Pant Goes From Day to Night

Wednesday, Apr 27, 2011 / 3:00 PM

Elizabeth and James

There is no better blank canvas from which to start an outfit than the LBP–that’s the little black pant. Pants and trousers ruled the spring runways, and the new black pants are anything but ordinary. While this workhorse is great at the office, it also transitions seamlessly from day to night. Shedding a blazer and adding some statement shoes will ensure you don’t look like you’ve been tied to your desk all day.

Here are some great LBPs to build around–and we’ll tell you why:

3.1 Phillip Lim

Crop It: These cropped beauties from Elizabeth and James are the perfect day to night bottom and thoroughly modern. Tuck in a colorful silk blouse and pair it with flats or classic heels for work, then switch to a sequined t-shirt and chunky sandals for the evening.

That ’70s show: Absolutely elegant, these silk trousers from 3.1 Phillip Lim are spot on with the ’70s trend that swept the spring runways yet amazingly timeless. A tank and a pile of necklaces will move your attitude from day to night.

MICHAEL Michael Kors

Slim down: These MICHAEL Michael Kors slim ankle length pants, with a smooth finish and wide waistband, are seriously channeling Audrey Hepburn and theyr’e going to make you look super sleek and gamine thin. Perfect for tucked in look with a silk button down blouse, or go casual with a looser tunic top.

Elie Tahari

Classic: Sometimes you want something a bit more classic, and this Elie Tahari for Nordstrom style is perfect. Keep the jacket on this time, but make it a white tux jacket and add some bright red lipstick.

Fashion Is Fun

Have A Stylish Hanukkah!

As see-your-breath-weather settles upon us, it’s only natural that we’re all craving a cuddle in our favorite sweaters. Leah’s got a thing for cardi-coats. I’m almost halfway through my Wool and the Gang project…from last winter. This season, there’s a gaggle of fuzzy numbers to choose from for more instant gratification, with many classics making a comeback.

It got us thinking about where these styles originated. So we went to knit-wit Lynne Hiriak, of Cardigan by Lynne Hiriak–who has been designing sweaters for nearly 15 years working with Michael Kors, Derek Lam, and Thakoon along the way–for a history lesson on some of her favorite styles, and which will be finding their way into her closet this season. (By the way–you can save up to 65% at Cardigan’s Cyber Monday sale, going on right now.)

1) Is this possibly the most emotional show that Lifetime has ever broadcast? And that’s saying a lot. Everyone cried. Tim. All the contestants. Michael Kors almost did. Oh, but not Nina. (Shocker.)

2) How hot is April’s mom?

3) Who else absolutely, positively knew what a foulard is? I certainly did. It didn’t take me five attempts to spell it either.

4) Can we all agree that make-up that makes you look like a streetwalker or a figure-skater is never a good thing? Thank goodness the L’Oreal Paris make-up room is around to remind us.

5) What kind of crazy ass fights do you suppose take place at Michael C’s house during family parties?

Theft At Lincoln Center: Apparently there was a theft during the Michael Kors show on Wednesday. A photographer and his assistant, who were sitting in the photographer’s pit, were robbed of their credit cards, cash, and metro cards. Soon after, Hollister reported a significant spike in sales at their Soho location. We kid. {Styleite}

Christopher Bailey Tweets: Creative director at Burberry, Christopher Bailey, has taken over Burberry’s twitter. Up until September 21–the day of the Burberry show–Bailey will be tweeting away about the preparations for the S/S 2011 show. Already up? A picture from his walk to work and a picture from inside the studio. {Twitter}

1) Is it true what Gretchen said to her mom? Is life really more than just fashion?

2) Is anyone at all shocked that the thin girls got chosen first?

3) Did Michael D. call his model “volumptuous” (yes, with an M)? I did several rewinds. He did.

4) Why was it OK that Ivy trash-talked Michael C. for the entire first part of the show, but it was not OK when he allegedly did the same to her?

Yesterday, I visited best-selling psychic Roxanne Hulderman, who was giving readings to editors in Michael Bolla’s Chelsea Mansion.

I did get a personal reading–Roxanne is amazing!–but more importantly, I asked the well-regarded fortune teller to predict the future for five of New York Fashion Week’s biggest stars. Click through to see what she had to say.

1) Oh, Project Runway, why? Georgina Chapman AGAIN? Harvey, why don’t you just put yourself up there as a judge and be done with it? (Oh, and congratulations on the impending bundle of joy.)

2) Did Team Luxe really think they could sneak that neutral nightmare past Michael Kors, the king of camel sportswear?

3) Should we really trust Michael C a designer who wears Ed Hardy shirts everyday? I’m not sure they’re even genuine Ed Hardy.

4) We can forgive Tim for making up the phrase “youthened up,” right?

Fashion’s Night Out is two weeks from tomorrow! There is more going on than we can even wrap our heads around. Having trouble deciding where you want to go and who you want to see the most?

Well, if you’re interested in catching a peak of one of your favorite designers, here’s a roundup of where some of the biggest and the best will be on September 10. We’ve excluded most of the people we’ve already reported on. Also, it’s almost safe to say that if someone isn’t on this list, they will probably be at Barneys.

Michael Kors
Michael will be at his lifestyle store on Madison and 61st in New York City. He will be joined by TONY Award winner Idina Menzel, whom Michael will accompany on a selection of songs. Michael will also make an appearance nearby at Bloomingdale’s 59th street, where the “World of Michael” will be created to kick off a new Michael Kors handbag shop-in-shop.

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy will be kicking off FNO and his brand’s 25th anniversary at Macy’s Herald Square. As we’ve reported, Macy’s will house “The Ultimate Tailgate Party” as inspired by Tommy’s most recent ad campaign. Tommy will be accompanied by Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren. He will also make an appearance at his Fifth Avenue store, where shoppers can have their purchases personalized with an exploding monogram while they shop, listen to DJ Toddlerone and drink up.
