So turns out that hard-to-believe story in the Telegraph about Michelle Obama dropping $50,000 at an Agent Provocateur, (which the White House swiftly denied), wasn’t just false–it was pretty much completely made up, according to a recent item published the Telegraph.

The retraction reads:

Further to our article “First Lady’s luxury buys boost Agent Provocateur” (Jan 30), we would like to make clear that the “shopping spree” involving Her Highness Sheikha Moza and Michelle Obama that we referred to in fact never occurred, and that Her Highness has never been shopping with Mrs Obama, at Agent Provocateur or otherwise, and has never sought to have any part of New York closed off to enable her to shop undisturbed. We apologize for the distress and embarrassment this article caused.

Now we know how Michelle Obama gets those famous arms!

The First Lady filmed a segment for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, in promotion of her Let’s Move campaign, which encourages kids to get off the couch and be more active. To that end, MObama and Fallon engage in an old-school gym-style competition, duking it out in categories like tug-of-war, push-ups, dodgeball and a potato sack race–and let’s just say that Michelle more than holds her own against Jimmy, breezing through the push-up challenge and chucking a ball in the TV show host’s face during Dodgeball.

Karl Lagerfeld took time out of his jam-packed schedule to guest-edit Paris’ Metro paper today, and the shit he says in his interview with the free daily is worthy of its own viral video–and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

The Kaiser sounds off on everything from why Obama should get re-elected (hint: it has to do with Mrs. Obama), to wanting to be a Russian lesbian to Adele’s weight. He’s sure to ruffle more than a few feathers with these gems.

Yesterday, the Obama campaign released a list of its top fundraising “bundlers,” and the list, not surprisingly, included Vogue EIC Anna Wintour, who raised over $500,000 for Obama’s re-election, WWD reports. Of course, she’s been known to raise as much as $1.5 million at a single dinner, so this comes as no surprise. She was one of 61 people to “bundle” at that level (Hollywood media moguls Harvey Weinstein, with whom Wintour has hosted a fundraiser, and Jeffrey Katzenberg were the other big ones), meaning she’s a pretty influential lady, and not just within the fashion community.

Wintour hasn’t been secretive about her support of Obama:

When we first read reports that Michelle Obama and the Queen of Qatar had reportedly spent $50,000 at Agent Provocateur, we were skeptical.

Besides the fact that we can’t quite imagine the First Lady (or the Queen of Qatar for that matter) being such an ardent fan of the brand’s saucy, often-bondage-inspired underthings as to inspire a $50K shopping spree, we also found it hard to believe that such a media-savvy woman would publicly spend that much on anything (let alone kinky lingerie) during the time of her husband’s reelection.

It was hard to believe because it wasn’t true.

If their public hand-holding, one-on-one dinner dates and adorable family Christmas card hadn’t convinced you that the flame in the Obamas’ marriage is still very much alive then this certainly will: The First Lady reportedly dropped $50,000 in lingerie at Agent Provocateur, according to The Telegraph.

Apparently part of Madison Ave was closed off so that MObama and Queen of Qatar Sheikha Mozah could spend time in the luxury lingerie store. The two evidently liked what they saw because they snapped up enough goodies to total $50,000.

What’s more, the Telegraph is reporting that the mere rumor of Mrs. O’s lingerie spree has boosted sales by up to 12.5%. It’s been proven that the first lady has seriously selling power (a Harvard B-school study made that clear), but does the woman who shops Zara and H&M really spend $50K at Agent Provocateur?

The First Lady has been looking chic and festive at all her official holiday duties. To the White House Hanukkah reception on December 8, Michelle Obama wore a blue silk lame number by Rodarte (blue being very Hanukkah appropriate) and to the ‘Christmas in Washington’ gala on December 11 she wore a lovely forest green number by Cushnie et Ochs (which is maybe the first time she’s worn the label?). Though we have to give props to Sasha and Malia, too, who clearly take after mom when it comes to having awesome style. Read more »
