Michelle Obama and Jennifer Aniston Inspire 4000% Increase in Upper Arm Plastic Surgery

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released its annual report yesterday and, according to the group, elective upper arm surgery is one of the fastest growing plastic surgery trends.

The ASPS presented some poll data that gives a hint about why the procedure, which leaves a visible scar from your elbow to your armpit, has become so popular, and of course it involves celebrities. “Celebrities from the White House to the red carpet may be having an influence,” the ASPS reports.

Last week, China’s First Lady Peng Liyuan made headlines in the fashion world when she accompanied President Xi Jinping on his first official trip abroad to Russia wearing an understated, elegant coat, light blue scarf and black leather handbag. Comparisons to Michelle Obama, Jackie O and Carla Bruni abounded and the Chinese and International press alike were singing her praises.

Liyuan’s most headline-making move has been to do something we, in America, have come to expect (demand?) from our First Lady: She’s embracing domestic, homegrown designers.

Naeem Khan on Dressing the FLOTUS and India’s Future in Luxury

Naeem Khan is one of the very few designers who can say he’s dressed Michelle Obama—and Lady Gaga—for high profile events. There’s no doubt Khan excels at creating red carpet dresses for women of all shapes and sizes to wear—but make no mistake, there’s a lot more to the Indian-born, American-based designer than just intricate bead work (though, certainly, there is that too).

At last night’s Fashion Talks at the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), Khan sat down with Pamela Golbin, the Chief Curator of Fashion and Textiles at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, to talk about everything from his Indian roots, to working for Halston—and of course dressing the First Lady.
