Donatella Versace Opens Up About Feminism, Being Besties with Miuccia Prada, and Sleeping in a Freezer

Donatella Versace is the subject of two profiles this morning in advance of her upcoming couture show and even though she’s one of the most recognizable faces in fashion, they reveal some pretty fascinating things.

While she may not do as many interviews as say, Karl Lagerfeld, she’s often just as honest and unfiltered. However, in these, from WWD and the Telegraph, she’s doesn’t actually say anything that head-scratching. Well, there was one thing about sleeping in a freezer. And did she really mean to say she “asphyxiated” her children? Read on for that, her thoughts on returning to the Paris Ritz for her couture show, selling the company and her friendship with fellow feminist Miuccia Prada.

Confirmed: Miuccia Prada Will Attend the Met Ball Tonight

When we read Suzy Menkes’ account of Miuccia Prada’s alleged shoe malfunction and subsequent injury which could prevent her from attending the Met Ball, we were concerned. We reached out to Prada and it turns out that the designer won’t be missing the gala for the exhibit in her honor after all; Prada’s PR confirmed to us that Miuccia absolutely will be attending.

Miuccia Prada on Being a Feminist in Fashion: ‘I Only Recently Stopped Having Problems’

Miuccia Prada may be one of the most influential, beloved and respected fashion designers of our time–evidenced by the fact that she’s about to be honored with an exhibit at the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, she wasn’t always so keen on the idea of working in fashion. In fact, there was a time when she “hated it.”

Baz Luhrmann To Direct Film for Met Exhibit Starring Miuccia Prada and Judy Davis as Elsa Schiaparelli

There’s an interesting new multi-media twist to the Met’s upcoming “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibit. In addition to the exhibit itself and a book (which Katie Grand appears to be involved in), there will be an accompanying film in which Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada have their “impossible conversation,” made into a possible one Read more →

Fashion News Roundup: Jean Paul Gaultier Will Make More Cone Bras for Madonna, Miuccia Prada Really Loves Aprons, and Lauren Santo Domingo is Expecting Again

Jean Paul Gaultier Dressing Madonna on Tour: It’s finally confirmed that JPG will once again be dressing Madge for her upcoming world tour– in one or more costume, still unclear– and we can only pray for an insane, updated revival of that Blonde Ambition cone bra corset. {Grazia}

Will.i.am is Getting Sued for Clothing Deal: The Black Eyed Peas frontman is being sued $2mil by a company called I.Am.Clothing (chicken/egg sitch there?) for allegedly failing to fulfill his duties as its spokesperson. Where is the love?? {TMZ}

Kim Kardashian Covers a Beauty Book: Could hers be the face that sells a thousand books? Everyone’s someone’s favorite reality star has landed the extremely airbrushed of celeb makeup artist Scott Barnes’s new beauty book. Kim’s in good nude-lipped company with this one: Jennifer Lopez was a previous Barnes cover girl. {BellaSugar}

Miuccia Prada Just Loves Aprons: We love aprons because they (partially) shield our outfits from those inevitable kitchen calamities. Miuccia Prada loves aprons because they are “symbolic of women’s sufferance. It’s an emblem of women’s despair, their poverty, their passions.” Twinsies! {NY Mag via New York Times}

Fashion News Roundup: Abbey Lee Kershaw May Be in a Spielberg Film, There Are More Details About the Prada/Schiaparelli Met Exhibit, and Angelina Jolie Covers Vogue Turkey

The Other Missing Model: Though we all miss Karlie, many have been surprised this season at the lack of Abbey Lee Kershaw on the runways. Turns out she’s having knee surgery tomorrow (ouch!). The model has been plagued with knee issues for years, and we certainly wish her a speedy recovery. But there’s also a rumor she’s working on the next Spielberg film – something her New York Agency Next Model Management did not confirm or deny. {Frockwriter}

Ferragamo Partners with the Louvre: The Italian brand has announced that it will be the exclusive sponsor of the upcoming exhibit “Saint Anne, Leonardo da Vinci’s Ultimate Masterpiece,” running from March 29 to June 25 at the Louvre. In an historic move, Ferragamo will show Resort on June 12 in the Denon wing, the first time the Louvre has allowed a fashion show within the museum itself. Chairman Ferruccio Ferragamo considers the sponsorship “a great honor.” {WWD}

Angelina’s Face Covers Vogue Turkey: She’s not just a pretty (and hilarious) leg. Jolie looks fantastic on the cover of this month’s Turkish edition of Vogue, reminding everyone that her face is just as worthy of attention as her gams. {ONTD}
