Quote of the Day: MTV Liked That Abercrombie & Fitch ‘PR Stunt’
It’s a clever PR stunt, we’d love to work with them on other ways they can leverage ‘Jersey Shore’ to reach the largest youth audience on television.

After MTV dropped Lauren Conrad’s reality show for being “too high brow,” Conrad lost a lot of potential publicity for her forthcoming contemporary line, Paper Crown. The show was to follow the making of Paper Crown, a la The September Issue (not The Hills). We wondered what would become of Conrad’s Paper Crown without the help of MTV, but a fall 2011 landed in our inbox late last night, so it looks like the collection will be in stores come fall.
The collection is sweet, just like Conrad, and we could picture her in every piece–which, considering her sizable fan base, is a very good thing. Judging from the look book, Conrad’s first attempt at a contemporary priced collection is a vast improvement from her lackluster collections for Kohl’s. It reminds us a little of Elizabeth and James only skewed younger. Paper Crown features on-trend basics like leather shorts, silk blouses in blush tones, slouchy blazers, tight cocktail dresses, tiered ruffled maxi dresses (a Conrad staple) and short, flouncy, belted dresses.
MTV, the network that made Lauren Conrad a star, has confirmed they will not air her new reality show, which focused on her forthcoming contemporary line, Paper Crown.
“We decided not to go ahead with the show,” David Janollari, Head of Programming for MTV, told EW.com. “She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that’s also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances…It was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now.”
It’s news that seems to have come to a shock to Conrad, who talked up the show in her Teen Vogue cover story a few months ago, saying it was inspired by The September Issue. “The Hills was shot with three or four cameras; things like entrances and exits were reshot; and if there were sound issues, we were asked to repeat what we just said,” Conard said. “This show is going to have a smaller crew, and they’ll just be following us around. It’s going to have a rougher feel, but I think the end result is going to be more true.”
Seems MTV wanted more Hills and less R.J. Cutler. Conrad has issued the following statement regarding MTV’s decision to kill the show:
We knew that Kelly Cutrone, who has become the beloved Dr. Phil-esque lifestyle guru of the fashion world (as well as an actual correspondent for Dr. Phil), was working a new show but didn’t know much about it.
A casting notice reveals that Cutrone’s new show for MTV will be more like an extension of her role on Dr. Phil than a Kell on Earth redux. Cutrone’s new show will see the PR legend and best-selling author help folks reach their dreams. “Kelly Cutrone…is here to push you to achieve your goals,” reads the casting notice, “She’s been there, and has the know-how to kick your dreams into gear.”
And she’s looking for some dreamers to kick into gear, Cutrone-style, which will probably mean lots of blunt, no-nonsense but loving advice. If you’re 18-23 here’s here’s what you need to know (non-fashion dreamers are welcome to apply, too):

Bloomingdale’s Finds a Bedbug: Bloomingdale’s released a statement on Friday admitting that they found one bedbug in its flagship store. Yes, just one bedbug. According to the release, they’ve taken care of the bedbug and will not be closing the store. Lauren Conrad is Back: Lauren Conrad has just signed a deal with MTV in which she will star in her own show. The new show will follow her on her many business ventures including the development of her new contemporary line. {Racked}
Rumor has it that MTV has canceled (seemingly) successful scripted reality series The City. The current season, which airs on Tuesdays at 10.30pm EST, will be its last.
The City, a spin-off of the The Hills, which was a spin-off of Laguna Beach, documents the “life” of Whitney Port, a young designer trying to make it in New York. It mostly takes place at real-life fashion industry companies, including Kelly Cutrone‘s public relations firm People’s Revolution and Elle magazine, where main characters Erin Kaplan and Olivia Palermo “work.” (Kaplan does indeed work full time at Elle, Palermo does not.)
In general, we’re a bit surprised by this news.

To be honest, I’d pretty much forgotten that Kanye West was going to do his own line, Pastelle. But apparently it’s finally arrived. At this point, the man’s ego and mouth pretty much overshadow any professional endeavor he takes on. In spite of myself, I still love his music, but that’s about it–well, when he Read more →
