The Punk Way Vs. the Runway

The Punk Way Vs. the Runway

Ever since punk emerged in the mid ’70s, fashion has been ripping it off inspired by it–I mean, famous punk venue CBGB is a John Varvatos store now; it’s sort of the perfect metaphor for the evolution of punk style. In fact, showcasing that relationship is the whole point of the Met Institute’s upcoming exhibit, Punk: Chaos to Couture.

But not all punks are exactly thrilled to see their subculture’s gear pop up on a runway–or a fashion museum exhibit.

Sneak Peek: Marc Jacobs’s New Nail Polish Collection

Backstage yesterday afternoon at the Marc Jacobs show, beauty editors were herded into a small holding room away from all the hair and makeup action, because with 55 models getting prepped for the show, it was way too chaotic for us to be roaming around. I should mention that in the holding pen there was a small version of the “sun” light that was on the main floor, meaning we were all in this surreal lighting for a good hour while waiting to hear about the beauty looks. (FYI it’s the least flattering lighting ever.)

Well, it was worth the wait because we got a peek at the nail polish which will be part of Jacobs’s hotly anticipated makeup line for Sephora.

Here Is that Booty-Themed Nail Polish You’ve Been Waiting For

We had to know more about how booties relate to nail polish, so chatted with the brand’s unlikely founder, Mark O’Hara.

Azzaro Loses Creative Director, Hedi Slimane Maybe Designing for Rolling Stones, and John Hamm’s Bulge Returns

Beyoncé hit the town this weekend wearing a very unique pair of earrings supporting her favorite presidential candidate. Hey, does anyone else get the feeling she’s voting for Obama? {HuffPo}

Mathilde Castello Branco has stepped down from her position as creative director of Azzaro, after only a year at the label. Branco’s next movement is not yet known, and while there’s no word yet on who will replace her, Azzaro released a statement saying they will “shortly be announcing her successor.” Stay tuned.{Vogue UK}

This strikes us as highly unlikely, but apparently supermodel Kate Moss is helping One Direction hottie Harry Styles decorate his new place after he rang up asking her for help. (Harry, I once interned for an interior designer – just throwing that out there.) {Sugarscape}

What is more distracting on the red carpet: the white makeup powder on Jon Hamm’s face or his, erm, visible bulge? {The Cut}

Fashion News Roundup: More Lady Gaga Fame Ads, Urban Outfitters May Have Bed Bugs and DvF is a Granny (Again!)

Lady Gaga revealed a second ad for her fragrance Fame on her Twitter account – thankfully she’s a bit more covered up in this one. {Twitter} We know that “devil may care” attitude is part of the Urban Outfitters brand, but we think a potential bed bug infestation might be worth more than a shrug Read more →

Why OPI’s New Top Coat ‘Black Spotted’ Is the Latest Impossible-To-Get Nail Polish Craze

Special effects top coats–like holographic, crackle, and sparkle–are now a nail polish aisle staple, with everyone from Essie to Deborah Lippmann releasing versions. But there’s one that has had the nail polish blogs gushing for the past month and it’s definitely worth a closer look. (A huge thanks to my nail polish-addicted friend Lauren for Read more →
