It’s no secret that fashion and movies–and the actresses who make them–go hand-in-hand. ELLE knows this well, and is hosting its 18th annual Women in Hollywood event, co-sponsored by L’Oreal Paris, the Calvin Klein Collection, and David Yurman.

It’s a glam girl-power event every year that honors women’s achievements in film. “As has long been our tradition, this year we honor an extraordinary group of women who continue to redefine what is possible in Hollywood,” said ELLE editor-in-chief Robbie Myers (via a release). “From icons to stars to emerging talent, we are thrilled to celebrate their contribution to understanding what it means to be a woman in the wider world.”

The ceremony will be held this year on Monday, October 17 at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills Hotel. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the lovely and talented ladies who are going to be honored next month.

And the honorees are…(*drumroll*):

Clarins pulled out all the stops for last night’s launch of Thierry Mugler Angel Eau de Toilette (as they tend to do for Mugler fragrance launches) and introduction of the newest Angel, Eva Mendes. They turned the first floor of the Westside highway-adjacent, Frank Gehry-designed IAC building into this cinematic, dreamlike Thierry Mugler Angel world. There were stars and comets somehow projected onto the ceiling. They even erected a gigantic comet (the same shape that outlines the perfume bottle) in the entrance that you had to walk under to go in to the event. They stamped a star on my hand when I walked in for no apparent reason. Also, I’m pretty sure the Angel scent was somehow wafting through the venue. I never stopped smelling it, even after I left, because I took the little blue Angel-scented scarf a woman suggested I tie around my wrist because it was pretty and blue.

About an hour and a half into the event, Eva Mendes made her very planned and theatrical entrance. The lights went down, the music changed to Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and everyone stopped talking and gathered around to watch Eva walk through the giant comet in a gorgeous cream, strapless Nicola Formichetti-designed Mugler gown.

Last night’s CFDA Awards were a decidedly star-studded affair, what with Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Sofia Coppola, Jessica Alba, Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, and host Anderson Cooper spending time on the stage. Cooper had to leave early because of “that Weiner thing,” or so Diane von Furstenberg said, but otherwise the audience received plenty of face time with their star of choice–there were even a couple of moments when one could forget this was, you know, a fashion industry event. But only a couple.

We’ve become huge fans of the Hollywood Reporter over the last few months, mostly due to Janice Min’s excellent makeover of the trade publication. Staffer Merle Ginsberg navigates the LA fashion scene with an entertaining mix of gossip, insider news, and general knowledge that is not only rare for the West Coast, but rare for fashion writing in general.

So we were thrilled to see Ginsberg’s list of the 25 most powerful stylists in Hollywood covering this week’s issue. Rachel Zoe obviously ranks number one, with names like Nicole Chavez, Annabel Tollman, Brad Goreski, Leslie Fremar, and Kate Young rounding it out. See the full list below, and read the Zoe cover story here.

On Friday night, at Indochine’s 25th Birthday Party, we kept saying, these are like the fashion parties we read about before we moved to New York, part of the reason we wanted to move to New York, to see if things like this really happened. Practically naked (though elaborately head-dressed) women waited on booths full [...]

We hardly recognized January Jones in the August issue of Elle since we really only know (and love) her as the WASP-y chic, increasingly independent wife of Don Draper (swoon!) on Mad Men. She actually looks a little like Naomi Watts here with Donatella. But we digress. She looks slick and cool and we appreciate [...]
