Net-a-Porter

If you have eight minutes of down time today, do yourself a favor and watch this video. In it, Karl Lagerfeld interviews himself about, well, himself. Sure, it’s probably an easy film-making technique, but we wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Karl actually has a klone of himself walking around to help him do things. Anyway, Net-a-Porter produced this video to go along with the launch of Karl by Karl Lagerfeld, which, in case you’ve been off the planet recently, is his new lower-priced line that launched on their site yesterday. The Karls talk muses (it’s not a “nice” word), improvisation (he never plans out what he’s going to say), and how to be chic (there are peasants in “poor rags” that are chic–if you have to ask, you’ll never be chic.) Most notably, he seems to get a dig in at Galliano, saying: Read more »

From designing dozens (yes, dozens) of collections every year, to photographing his own campaigns, to creating a cool new beauty line, and raising one of the most adorable kittens we’ve ever seen, there really doesn’t seem to be much Karl Largefeld can’t do. Except, maybe, sleep.

The latest in the never-ending series of Karl exploits is this video lookbook for his new, lower priced line Karl by Karl Lagerfeld, where the designer tries his hand at working the turntables. Read more »

Karl by Karl Lagerfeld: The Complete Collection

Wednesday, Jan 25, 2012 / 9:17 AM

We’ve been seeing bits and pieces of the Karl by Karl Lagerfeld collection online–we even got to style a model using pieces from the collection–but it finally (finally) goes on sale today at Net-a-Porter, starting at 10 a.m. Pieces range in price from $50 for a canvas tote to just over $1,000 for leather pieces. The Cut and Vogue UK both got a hold of the full look book modeled by Lagerfeld muse Saskia de Brauw. It makes us want to slick back our hair and wear silver leather RIGHT NOW.

On another note, we know that Karl is relatively tech savvy and carries around multiple iPads–and Net-a-Porter just tweeted that Karl is now on Twitter. Read more »

On the off chance you hadn’t noticed the Net-a-Porter ads blanketing every fashion site and counting down the seconds until Karl Lagerfeld’s new affordably priced line Karl launches exclusively on their site–or joined Karl’s kult and Karl-ified yourself (or your kat) with Net-a-Porter’s Karl iPhone app–here’s another tease for the Karl line, which goes on sale Friday.

Net-a-Porter is seriously hyping Karl Lagerfeld’s new masstige collection, Karl, which will debut exclusively on their site on January 25. Today they’ve launched a microsite and app dedicated, as they say in the release, “to all things KARL.” They are fast and loose with the k-supplanting, encouraging you to become a member of ‘Karl’s kult’ which grants access to exclusive images of the collection.

There’s also a Karl app, where users can play a Pac-Man like game where you gobble up Karl heads and a “Karlified” function where you can upload a photo of yourself and then “Karlify” it by posting Karl’s hair, collars, and sunglasses on your mug.

We decided to have a little fun with the Karlify part of the app and made over our favorite fashion people (and one kat) Karl-style. Take a look.

Net-a-Porter, who will soon be the exclusive carrier of Karl by Karl Lagerfeld, just revealed three new looks from the buzzed-about new masstige collection. From what we can tell, the collection will feature lots of black, sleek silhouettes, leather and cool accessories–a girly interpretation of Karl’s uniform.

According to a release (in which there are thankfully no excessive K’s), there will be 70 pieces available on Net-a-Porter beginning January 25 and prices range from $50 for a canvas bag with Karl’s face on it to over $1,000 for leather pieces.

Click through for a sneak peek. We’re particularly into the shoes, detachable collars and that sweatshirt. So, what’s the verdict? Has Karl succeeded at affordable luxury?

More details have emerged about Karl Lagerfeld’s affordable priced line ‘Karl,’ thanks to, of all the unlikely places, Europe’s biggest tech conference, Le Web.

Lagerfeld was on-hand at the conference as a keynote interviewee, and in between drawing a picture on his iPad (of himself, naturally) and eliciting gasps from the tech-savvy audience for saying he didn’t use email (according to the WSJ blog), the high-profile designer divulged more information about his ‘Karl’ line and showed a preview of the collection. Taking fuddy duddy, traditionally American things and turning them into high fashion seems to be a budding trend. (See: Glamping.) The latest target of the luxury fashion world’s makeover is everyone’s favorite holiday tradition: The Christmas Sweater.

Somewhere between classy (as defined by Derek Blasberg) and campy (as defined by Corky St. Clair) is this list of Christmas sweaters from big name designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. It’s the best new mix of high and low, plus you’ll probably wear these Christmas sweaters again, as opposed to the one your mom made you with yarn and a hot glue gun. (Sorry, Mom!)

Check out the festive options available for Christmas and get in the holiday spirit!

LOS ANGELES–The famed Hollywood Forever cemetery played host to quite the quintessential all-American hipster summer soiree on Wednesday night as cool kids Joel Madden, Andrew Garfield, Sarah Silverman, Jenny Lewis, Scott Sternberg, George Kotsiopoulos and more gathered to fete Band of Outsiders, Net-a-Porter and Mr. Porter.

To set the tone, plenty of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, RC Cola and warm weather fare (meatball sandwiches, potato chips, macaroni salad and more) were served up to the stylish crowd of industry insiders mingling amongst tombstones and morbid memorial sites.

“The cemetery totally creeps me out, but I came anyway to support the brand,” laughed Madden, carrying his personal picnic basket while scouting out a supreme spot on the grounds to watch the screening of the classic 1979 film Meatballs, starring Bill Murray. “They have been doing basic before anyone else. Now basic is actually very big, but Band of Outsiders was years ahead. They just do it right.”

Hello there and welcome to Business Casual, a new monthly column following my jarring and (hopefully!) exciting transition from working as a fashion writer in NYC to attending business school at MIT Sloan. I wanted to write this column because some fashion friends have expressed an interest in swallowing the grad school pill themselves and tumbling down this crazy rabbit hole. But coming from this industry, it can be tricky to know where to begin. My hope is to fill in those blanks. Please hit me up in the comments with any of your questions. From deciding to go to business school to getting accepted is a long and annoying process, but you can get through it.

First, a little about me, so we’re not strangers…

Net-a-Porter is now Prabal Gurung’s exclusive online retailer, and to celebrate, Prabal wants to give you some free clothes.

But you’re going to have to work for it. Whether you fancy yourself a rock star on Polyvore or a budding stylist (or just, you know, like free designer clothes), head over to Prabal’s blog.

They want you to create a look using one of the two color-blocked cashmere pieces featured there as the centerpiece. Using accessories from spring 2011 runways–they can be from anywhere–design a collage and submit it by May 16. They’ll display their three favorite looks on the blog, and then choose the winner at the end of May.

We’d like to suggest avoiding using this look, since it’s been done already:
