For the New York City Ballet’s spring gala on May 8, Joseph Altuzarra has designed costumes for principals Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild for a new pas de deux choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. What you see above are Altuzarra’s original sketches for Peck from his Smythson sketchbook.

Nanette Lepore‘s designs are en pointe lately…literally.
The fashion designer is behind the bright and non-traditional costumes to be worn by New York City Ballet principals Charles Askegard and Georgina Pazcoguin for their performances of the ballet Picnic. We chatted with the designer what it was like to design for ballet for the first time, and snagged some exclusive behind the scenes photos of the dancers being fitted for their costumes.
The New York City Ballet‘s new season kicks off tonight with the company’s fall gala. Sadly, I’m not lucky enough to attend this time/split my dress open and flash my panties to New York’s fanciest, but the NYCB’s Facebook page just released a slew of behind-the-scenes images of Valentino working on the costumes–so I almost feel like I’m there. Also? The costumes are incredible.
