‘Balenciaga Did It First’ Is a Very Accurate and Timely Tumblr

What would fashion be if Nicolas Ghesquiere had never come around? Probably pretty different considering his work for Balenciaga has influenced just about everyone, some more directly than others.

We feel like an entire “adventures in copyright” blog could be dedicated to copies of his work. Oh wait, that exists.

We already knew how influential he was, but seeing that visually, all in one place is pretty incredible.

Why Nicolas Ghesquiere Left Balenciaga and What He’s Doing Next (According to Cathy Horyn)

News of Nicolas Ghesquiere’s departure from Balenciaga seemed to surprise everyone from Style.com, whose feature about him in their new print magazine offers no real clues, to Cathy Horyn, who just offered up some insight as to why Ghesquière may have decided to leave.

While Ghesquière declined comment, Horyn spoke to “a number of individuals, who requested anonymity because of their dealings with PPR,” who confirmed speculation that Ghesquière has been frustrated with Balenciaga and PPR.

Nicolas Ghesquière’s Greatest Hits at Balenciaga

Cathy Horyn has called Nicolas Ghesquière the most important designer of our generation and Vogue has called him “fashion’s most sought-after and influential figure.” One does not receive praise like that by showing just a few noteworthy collections. Critics can rarely find anything negative to say about his shows. Nearly every collection he’s put out, it seems, was heralded for its refreshing orginality and credited with changing fashion and influencing trends.

And now, after 15 years at the label he reinvented, Ghesquière is out of a job.

So decided to take a look back at Nicolas Ghesquiere’s 10 best, most influential collections for Balenciaga.

YSL’s Sketches Go Missing, Judy Garland’s Wizard of Oz Dress Goes on the Block, and How Balenciaga Accidentally Started the Size 0 Model Trend

Almost 300 original sketches from Yves Saint Laurent’s personal collection are missing. The saga spans four decades, stretches between two continents and implicates some pretty important fashion people–but the timing of this mystery prompted some to wonder whether it was YSl’s attempt to wag the dog after that whole Cathy Horyn/Hedi Slimane feud. {TheCut}

It’s been a wait of almost ten years, but Zara Home has finally made its way across the pond. The online shopping site launched in the US today. {SHEFinds}

Here’s Kristen Stewart’s New Balenciaga Florabotanica Fragrance Ad (Even Though the Actress Has Never Worn Perfume Before)

When we first heard that Kristen Stewart had been tapped to be the face of a new Balenciaga fragrance back in January, our first reaction was, “Huh?”, and then general acceptance. Since then, the reigning highest paid actress in Hollywood has graced many a red carpet in the label–looking stunning at every photo op. Perhaps a better match than we thought.

Now we know a lot more about the fragrance and KStew’s role, including a (sorta fuzzy and crappy iPhone shot–sorry) of her first ad.
