See the Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld and Blake Lively-Designed Uniqlo T-Shirts, All Benefiting the Japanese Red Cross

Fashion has been generous and compassionate towards Japan in wake of the country’s recent disasters, but no company so much as Uniqlo, whose chairman and CEO donated $12 million of his own money to relief efforts. In addition to millions of dollars more in clothes and funds that the company donated, it’s now teaming up with an A-list group of designers and celebs to do the now-ubiquitous T-shirt design collaboration.

According to a release sent out by the retailer, ten designers and celebs created t-shirts, with proceeds benefiting the Japanese Red Cross. The high profile celebs include Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Alber Elbaz, Blake Lively, Charlize Theron, Cyndi Lauper, Victoria Beckham, and Orlando Bloom.

The shirts will retail for $19.90 and are available starting June 25. We’re partial to Alber’s hearts, Gaga’s characters, and Karl’s wash of color. Click through the gallery to check out the designs.

Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylists: The Complete List

Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylists: The Complete List

We’ve become huge fans of the Hollywood Reporter over the last few months, mostly due to Janice Min’s excellent makeover of the trade publication. Staffer Merle Ginsberg navigates the LA fashion scene with an entertaining mix of gossip, insider news, and general knowledge that is not only rare for the West Coast, but rare for fashion writing in general.

So we were thrilled to see Ginsberg’s list of the 25 most powerful stylists in Hollywood covering this week’s issue. Rachel Zoe obviously ranks number one, with names like Nicole Chavez, Annabel Tollman, Brad Goreski, Leslie Fremar, and Kate Young rounding it out. See the full list below, and read the Zoe cover story here.

Who Should Wear What To the Oscars: Our Red Carpet Suggestions

Predicting what the nominees will wear to the Oscars is trickier than picking the winners.

There are probably over 100 amazing Oscar-worthy dresses that walk the runway each season, but the reality is that most celebs would rather stick with a safe choice than a fashion forward one. This year, however, the nominees have a better fashion history than most. Nicole Kidman has turned heads in Galliano and Balenciaga, Michelle Williams favors the up-and-coming crowd, and Hailee Steinfeld is not afraid to take a daring risk, be it in Prada or Prabal.

Click through to see what I hope the nominees are wearing this Sunday.

Fashion News Roundup: Emmanuelle Alt Rumored To Take Over For Carine Roitfeld, Jennifer Aniston Tries Out Journalism, and Roland Mouret Puts Those Rumors About Him Ghost Designing For Victoria Beckham To Rest For Good

Emmanuelle Alt To Take The Reigns At French Vogue?: WWD has it from “industry sources” that French Vogue‘s fashion director, Emmanuelle Alt is rumored to be on the short list to replace Carine Roitfeld as editor. Apparently Virginie Mouzat, Le Figaro’s fashion editor, is still in the running as well. {WWD subscription required}

Roland Mouret Does NOT Ghost Design For Victoria Beckham, OK?: There were always rumors that Mouret had a hand in designing Victoria Beckham’s well-received collections and one journo recently asked him about it. Here’s what he said: Mouret retorted with the following outburst: “Oh my God, that question! Politicians, movie stars, it’s always the first things they want to know and I’m like, why? Why would I want to design a collection for Victoria Beckham? Yes she is a friend and yes she asks for advice and yes I told her the name of a pattern cutter, but she has lots of friends she asks for advice – Marc Jacobs. I like to help people that’s all.” {Telegraph}

Jennifer Aniston, Reporter?: Jennifer Aniston interviews her Just Go With It costar Nicole Kidman in the latest Harper’s Bazaar and she’s pretty good at it. And then they do this thing where they’re all “You’re pretty,” “No, you’re pretty!” which is funny. {Harper’s Bazaar}

Kellwood Acquires Rebecca Taylor: Kellwood Co. continues their acquisition spree with Rebecca Taylor. Last year they acquired Adam, by Adam Lippes, and Isis. The Daily Front Row is reporting that Kellwood has Gryphon in their sites next. {WWD subscription required}

What’s Up With That White Powder All Over Nicole and Uma’s Faces? We Solve the Mystery

What’s Up With That White Powder All Over Nicole and Uma’s Faces? We Solve the Mystery

Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman both usually look impeccable and take beautiful photographs. Nicole is always perfect, to the point of occasionally looking shellacked. Uma’s beauty style is more grounded and natural. And yet they were both recently snapped at events looking, um, less than perfect.

Both had patchy white powder visible all over their faces, but concentrated around the nose and eyes. Of course the cocaine jokes were thrown carelessly around the internet after these pictures surfaced, but it was obviously a make-up malfunction.

In the interest of preventing such a horrible thing from ever happening again, I contacted a few make-up artists to get their take on the powdery disaster.

Lorin Cole, a celebrity make-up artist and author of The Complete Book of Make-up, and Khush Singh, who has done editorial, print, and Bollywood make-up work, weighed in. Both gave some ideas for why this might have happened and offered tips for how to prevent the “I-just-stuck-my-head-in-a-bowl-of-powdered-doughnuts” look.

Anna Wintour’s “Intellectual Crush” on Irving Penn, and More From Last Night’s Lecture at Pratt

Anna Wintour’s “Intellectual Crush” on Irving Penn, and More From Last Night’s Lecture at Pratt

Last night’s Pratt Institute tribute to Irving Penn was one for the books: Anna Wintour gave a moving 20-minute tribute to Penn’s life and work, and Hamish Bowles taught what was virtually a master class on the style and genius of Vogue photographers since Edward Steichen. The event was part of Pratt’s President’s Lecture Series. Read more →

The Kaiser Courts Scorsese

Dior might’ve landed David Lynch for their next short film, but rumor has it Chanel’s adding Martin Scorsese to their payroll. One could argue they kicked off the whole fashion-loves-short-films craze with the Baz Luhrmann directed Nicole Kidman commercial in 2005. Then Keira Knightly’s Mademoiselle in 2007, which was actually directed by Chanel’s Artistic Director, Read more →

And The Winner Is…

Sophie Theallet won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award last night. The ceremony featured a keynote address from Alber Elbaz, who co-hosted with Nicole Kidman and told the crowd, “Success is like a bottle of perfume. Smell it, don’t sniff it and don’t drink it.” Patrik Ervell and jewelry designer Monique Pean both took home $50,000 Read more →

Salty Dresses

When we saw November’s disastrous Vogue cover, we just assumed the women were too busy to get together in one place to shoot the image. We figured Nicole Kidman was on a beach in Australia, Marion in the South of France, Kate in Malibu etc., or maybe in a studio and then superimposed onto the Read more →

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes at Vogue

The internet is buzzing this morning over a post on The Imagist late yesterday that said: “US Vogue is quietly getting a revamp in light of the on-going ad slump. Think a new circle of models, an influx of fresh, young photographers and a desire for ‘unpredictability’ in the stories.” Hallelujah is all I have Read more →

Fashion Is Fun

What’s Your Dream Dress?

Every season, we find ourselves fixating on an absolutely gorgeous fancy dress that has absolutely no place in our life. The dream dress is always way too expensive, usually on a celebrity, and probably not even sold in stores. Also, unless we crash the Oscars, there’s usually no place to wear it. Still, none of Read more →
