The CFDA Awards–aka fashion’s Oscars–are upon us. But unlike the Oscars, where celebs tend to play it safe and throw on a strapless fish-tail number, the CFDA red carpet tends to be a bit more interesting, a bit more risky. These are fashion people trying to impress other fashion people, after all.
So with that in mind, take a look at what everyone from Hillary Clinton to Jessica Chastain wore tonight.

Sure, some celebs chose to ignore the punk theme at last night’s Met Gala completely. (Couldn’t you at least have worn a token spike or two, Anna Wintour?) But we were pleasantly surprised to see how many celebs did make an effort, especially with their hair and makeup.

Nicole Richie, Julianne Hough, Jaime King, Jourdan Dunn, and Ashley Madekwe all turned heads at last night’s Met Gala–and not just because Nicole Richie had dyed her hair completely grey. They all wore custom looks created by fast fashion retailer Topshop in association with American Vogue.
Now Topshop has announced plans to sell those same gowns seen on last night’s red carpet in stores.

We’ve already thoroughly analyzed the Golden Globes red carpet, from the fashion trends to the best and worst dressed. But let’s not forget about what was happening above the neck. The beauty last night, much like the fashion, was pretty but a bit unispired. However, the good news is that most of it was incredibly wearable for real life people.
Cher Coulter is one of Hollywood’s top stylists. She was named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s top 25 stylists this year and her client list includes perennial best dressed list-ers Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller, and Elizabeth Olsen.
For the Golden Globes, she dressed an impressive four clients: Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, Rosie-Huntington-Whitely, and Huntington’s beau Jason Statham.
We asked her to keep a diary of the whole process, which she says is “VERY competitive”–especially considering this is a “difficult time for fashion.” What she means is that the new couture collections are just days away, summer is long gone, and it’s “too early in the season to pull anything new.”
Somehow Coulter managed just fine.
