Fashion News Roundup: Karl Lagerfeld’s New Kitten Eats Paper, Gisele’s Lingerie Brand Is Going Global, and Anna Wintour and Scarlett Johansson Are Partying for Obama

Gisele Is Taking Her Lingerie Brand Global: Gisele’s lingerie brand is less than a year old, but she’s going for world domination with it. It’s already sold in Latin America, Portugal, Japan, and Israel. {WWD, subscription required.}

Christian Siriano Is Designing Bridalwear: This makes perfect sense, though its timing with Heidi’s divorce is just that much more heartbreaking *sob*. Siriano tweeted that it was an exclusive collection with Nordstrom. Next up: white satin pumps at Payless? {NYMag}

Karl Lagerfeld’s New Kitten Likes to Eat Paper: This item made it into WWD. That is all. {WWD, subscription required.)

Here’s How to Use Lipstick as Blush, Correctly Choose Concealer, and Do a Perfect Neutral Face Courtesy of Burberry Makeup Gurus

Burberry’s relatively new makeup range, which launched last summer, has been slowly gaining a cult following. Perhaps it won’t be quite so cult-y anymore, because you can finally get your hands on the line a little more easily. Previously available only at Nordstrom (which doesn’t exist in NYC–please get here, Nordstrom!), you can now get it at Saks in NYC and at the retailers’ website. We popped over to Saks earlier this week to check out the gorgeous collection at the shiny new counter and to get some makeup tips from Burberry’s Director of Education, John Trau.

In a short time, Burberry has carved out a niche for itself in the market–the brand is becoming known for its perfect neutrals. See the fall campaign at left if you need proof.

Nordstrom Opens New Concept Store in NYC and Anna Wintour Is Involved–Could a Real Nordstrom Be On the Way?

Nordstrom Opens New Concept Store in NYC and Anna Wintour Is Involved–Could a Real Nordstrom Be On the Way?

Nordstrom, the only major department store that isn’t in Manhattan (and as a Seattle native, one of my favorites), continues to tease us by opening Treasure & Bond–a charity store in SoHo that also happens to be the brain child of philanthropist Catie Marron and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour, WWD is reporting.

Since the proceeds from the store will be going to different New York-based children’s charities (Wintour and Marron chose the first round), Nordstrom won’t be making a profit from this and you won’t find the Nordstrom name anywhere in the store. It’s more of an experiment and a way to make connections and to gauge response.

“Anything we can do to make us better and more informed is important,” CEO of Marketing Pete Nordstrom told WWD. “By virtue of the fact that Treasure & Bond has a philanthropic aspect, it connects us to the community.”

It’s a smart move–especially if one of those connections is already Anna Wintour–she’s kind of the most important one.

Though the brand pioneered this “one for one” business model, they are not the first to take the concept and apply it to eyewear.

The First Kate Middleton Knockoff Wedding Gowns and Accessories Hit Stores; Here Are the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Mere minutes after Kate Middleton’s now-famous Sarah Burton for McQueen wedding gown was revealed, wedding dress “designers” scurried to see who could copy be inspired by it the quickest. “Simple” is one of the words that has been used most frequently to describe the gown, and though that hardly applies to the construction of the gown–lace workers washed their hands every 30 minutes and replaced their needles every three hours to ensure that the lace remained pure white–bridal companies and dress makers have nevertheless run with it to knock off the dress and get into the market ASAP.

Shala Moradi of Faviana, a bridal label frequently inspired by celebrities’ gowns, told E!, “It’s easier than what I was expecting, and we’re going to do it in a few days.” We’re sure Sarah Burton and her team of artisans would take some exception to that statement. Moradi told E! that a bride called before the royal wedding saying that no matter what the dress looked like, she wanted a copy. Everyone from David’s Bridal to Nordstrom is planning to carry the look-alike gowns, and stores started placing orders the day of the wedding.

Click through our biggest Adventures in Copyright to date to check out the items inspired by the royal wedding—from The Dress, to accessories, to Pippa’s gown.

Nordstrom Buys HauteLook for $270 Million
The Business

Nordstrom Buys HauteLook for $270 Million

A little biz news to shake up fashion week: Nordstrom has just announced that they are acquiring private flash sale site HauteLook for an estimated stock value of $270 million.

Considering HauteLook’s four million members (as of June this past year Gilt only had around three million but is valued at over 400 million), it’s not for a huge amount of money, but it’s significant nonetheless. Here’s why: The deal marks the first instance of a big brick-and-mortar retailer buying a private flash sale site. Big retailers like Nordstroms make a lot of money through outlet stores and flash sale sites have become the new outlets, so to stay alive, big retailers have to get in the game–only they lack the infrastructure. Nordstrom didn’t suffer as badly as many other major retailers did during the recession so they’re well placed to make this deal. It’s a good deal for HauteLook, too. While they sell everything from Omaha steaks to Cartier watches on their site, as part of Nordstrom the site will have access to more brands.
