Theyskens’ Theory Fall 2011: Building on an Idea

Whether it’s because of his short-but-storied past or undeniable talent, Olivier Theyskens has brought a new excitement to New York fashion.

Maybe it’s simply because he’s creating signature looks on a mid-level marketing exec’s budget.

His latest capsule collection for Theory, where he is the brand’s new creative head, was both wearable and directional, without losing site of his new vision for the label.

Fashion News Roundup: Olivier Theyskens Named Creative Director at Theory, A Look at Kate Moss’s Last Topshop Collection & Kelly Osbourne’s Clothing Line

Olivier Theyskens Lands at Theory: Theyskens charmed the fashion world with his designs for Nina Ricci and Rochas, and now he’ll be designing for the business-chic masses as Theory’s new artistic director. This is in addition to his Theyskens for Theory collaboration line for Spring 2011. Not exactly what we expected from the Victorian/Goth-inspired designer, but hey, a job’s a job and this seems like a good one. {WWD subscription required}

Fashion News Roundup: Marriage and Baby Rumors, Anne Hathaway Covers Vogue and Did Theyskens Turn Down ODR?

A Weighty Issue: According to a blind item, some mysterious celebrity is holding off a pregnancy announcement because of her husband’s concern about an eating disorder. The item reads, “While he really, really wants this baby (even more than she does), he is very concerned that she is obsessing about her weight.” Who do you think it is? We have one guess. {Blind Gossip}

But the Brother Says… Meanwhile, yet another “exclusive” with celebrity gossip mag In Touch confirms that Zoe is in fact pregnant (after OK! and Us Weekly confirmed the same thing). This time, the source is Rachel Zoe’s brother-in-law. The supposed parents-to-be are still laying low. {In Touch}

Are they or aren’t they? Earlier today, the Daily Mirror reported that Kate Moss secretly married Jamie Hince in Italy this summer. Now Moss’s agent is denying the rumors. Hmm. {Fashionologie}

Madden’s Control: Steve Madden has increased his stake in Betsey Johnson from a $48.8 million loan to ownership of the brand’s intellectual property. Through licensing deals with Betsey Johnson LLC, Madden will get royalties from Johnson’s firm and its other licensees. {WWD, subscription required}

Calling All Aspiring Muralists: Rag & Bone hopes to solve their newest store’s unwanted graffiti dilemma by taking matters into their own hands. Sick of phrases like “You Would” and “F*** Africa” being tagged on the large white space underneath “Rag & Bone Bids Farewell to Cafe Colonial…,” they will hold a competition where artists can submit their work for consideration. The art will be voted on by Rag & Bone’s Facebook fans and the winner will be provided with all necessary painting materials and a $1000 store credit. Check out their site for more info. {Rag & Bone}

Major Shuffling in Paris?
The rumor mill is running wild following speculation that Stefano Pilati is done at YSL. Apparently, that is untrue, at least for the next 3 years, which is the length of the contract he just signed. There are also rumors that Karl Lagerfeld will retire from Chanel after his 30th anniversary in 2012 and be replaced by Alber Elbaz, whose position at Lanvin will then be filled by Oliver Theyskens. Lagerfeld retiring?? What? {Hint}

Why Olivier Theyskens is Designing for Theory

Why Olivier Theyskens is Designing for Theory

If it’s hard for you to imagine Olivier Theyskens–he of the Victorian goth gown–designing for Theory, you’re not the only one.

But whether or not we get it, the former Rochas and Nina Ricci designer will be creating a capsule collection for the contemporary work wear brand, at least according to WWD.

While it might be aesthetically confusing, the collaboration makes sense from a strategic point of view.

People Are Talking

Karl vs. Klum

So this weekend Karl Lagerfeld took a “dig” at Heidi Klum, his second of the year. In February he said, “Heidi is no runway model. She is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly. That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!” and now he claims not Read more →

“This is not a fact until you officially read it somewhere else but rumour has it that Karl Lagerfeld will not renew his contract at Chanel and that Albert [sic] Elbaz will take his place and Olivier Theyskens will take Albert’s place at Lanvin.
