As we’re sure you’ve heard, nominations were announced today for the most important red carpet film awards ceremony of the year. And you know us. Instead of speculating on who’s going to win, we speculate on what everyone’s going to wear. In all betting games, there’s a safe choice and a risky one. So, we’ve [...]

Predicting what the nominees will wear to the Oscars is trickier than picking the winners.

There are probably over 100 amazing Oscar-worthy dresses that walk the runway each season, but the reality is that most celebs would rather stick with a safe choice than a fashion forward one. This year, however, the nominees have a better fashion history than most. Nicole Kidman has turned heads in Galliano and Balenciaga, Michelle Williams favors the up-and-coming crowd, and Hailee Steinfeld is not afraid to take a daring risk, be it in Prada or Prabal.

Ever since news broke that Anne Hathaway would host the Oscar’s our thoughts turned immediately to her dress changes and what Rachel Zoe, who has been her stylist since she did The Devil Wears Prada, would choose for the actress.

Even though Zoe is nearly eight months pregnant and wasn’t able to travel to Paris to attend the couture shows we’re sure she’ll pull this off with plenty of (possibly altered) couture. But her super star styling skills come at a cost.

It’s no surprise that Zoe commands a hefty fee, but Merle Ginsberg at The Hollywood Reporter has it on good authority from a source inside the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences that what Zoe is charging Hathaway is “astronomical.” She continues, “[Zoe's fee] hovers near the expenditures of what designer and longtime Nicole Kidman stylist L’Wren Scott spent on the show in 2000 as Oscar fashion coordinator. The Oscars air this Sunday, and we know what that means: Celebrities in safe gowns, long teary speeches, and…swag. While the heyday of the Oscar swag bag is over–thanks to an IRS crackdown in 2006–free stuff for celebs is still an indelible part of the awards show season. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and [...]

Blog-alicious: Meet Caroline. She’s guest blogging for Lucky (how we found her), but she’s actually a textile designer with her own blog full of illustrations, both fashion and otherwise, and other very pretty things. {ItLooksGoodToMe} Oscar & Valentino: The designer’s doc is on the short-list for an Oscar nom. Sadly, The September Issue is not. [...]

The Oscars are safe. Starlets choose something long, something pretty, something with a jewel on top. But our Oscars, the CFDAs, are a celebration of all things fashion with a capital ‘F’ which means we get to choose best dressed, not US Weekly.

When the last look came out at the Narciso show on Raquel last Wednesday night, everyone kind of oohed and we wondered who would be the first lucky girl to rock his sequined ballerina look (because we knew this one practically came with a sign that would read,”Photograph me, you know you want to”). And [...]

We learned a lot of valuable lessons from Rachel Zoe’s reality show. The wise one explained that while she’d love to throw her girls onto red carpets in fashion forward runway looks, the public doesn’t always get fashion forward. And so she’s forced to put aside her own taste in lieu of more traditional garb. [...]

Everybody’s talking about how Graydon Carter’s announced that the party for the 2009 Oscars in February will be a little more subdued than in years past (due to, of course, the economy.) But we can’t get over the date – February 22nd. Because as you probably know, the CFDA’s had New York Fashion Week pushed [...]
