SUNO Spring 2013

The Clothes: Demure, almost prairie-like separates in dust tones. Boxy tops were paired with oversized bottoms for a loose, summery silhouette, and most dresses featured a tiny cut out to reveal a slice of skin. As always, there were tons of prints; this season saw blue and white stripes, florals in orange, metallic, and pastel, Read more →

Pamela Love on Branching Out Beyond Jewelry and What She Did with her CFDA Money

Pamela Love on Branching Out Beyond Jewelry and What She Did with her CFDA Money

Last week I ran into Pamela Love at the launch party for her collaboration with Shopstyle, the encyclopedic shopping website. Love is Shopstyle’s first designer collaboration ever, and for the occasion she reimagined some of her classic pieces in rose gold and red resin, to be sold at a lower price point (because not everyone can afford $700 cuffs).

I got the chance to speak with Pamela about the collaboration, her CFDA win, and her best memories in her hometown in Florida, and lucky for me, her best friend from high school, Jen, was sitting right beside her to provide some comic relief and insight.

Suno, Fetherston and Pamela Love Fall 2011: When Milk Boils Over – Chaos and Crowds at Saturday Night’s Shows

When we arrived on time for a trio of Saturday evening presentations at MAC & Milk, we couldn’t possibly have predicted the insanity we were in for. With the fur-coat-wearing, Blackberry-brandishing masses attempting to simultaneously check in for Suno, Erin, Pamela Love, Billy Reid, Illesteva, and Altuzarra, suffice it to say that there weren’t quite enough iPads on hand to make the process run smoothly. After over an hour of waiting in the throng, we were informed that all the eighth-floor presentations had finished. While we aren’t surprised that 450 West 15th St. is an incredibly coveted show locale (regal and historic as Lincoln Center may be, it just doesn’t carry the same edgy-cool factor as MAC & Milk) we hope that as the week progresses, the downtown venue will step up its game and be better able to handle the crowds.

Fashion News Roundup: Halle Berry’s Vogue Cover, Alexander Wang’s Ad Campaign, and Mrs. O In The Row?

You Heard it Here First: See, we don’t make these things up. Halle Berry is on the cover of September Vogue. She tells Jonathan Van Meter, “What that means for a woman of color and what that means in the fashion world, what that means to pop culture, there was no way I could say, ‘No, I’m not going to be on the biggest issue of the year.” We’re kind of into the high-drama feel of the shoot, but what is up with the Cleopatra hair? {Vogue.com}

Would Michelle Obama wear The Row? Ashley Olsen thinks so, saying “I’d love to get Michelle Obama in The Row. The simple suits and things. It’s all made in America, so why not?” We think The Row might be a little lacking in color for Mrs. O, but you never know. {In Style UK}

American Apparel’s Filing Failures:
In case you were wondering, American Apparel’s financial woes are not getting any better, because Dov and co. are super late filing their financial reports. They keep trying to delay reporting their last two quarters (for which they expect a loss), which is really bad considering they’re a publicly traded company. Things don’t look good. {Going Concern}

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Names Its Finalists

Ten American designers just got a lot happier. The CFDA and Vogue announced their ten finalists for the seventh annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund initiative, and we’re pretty pleased with the results (as we’re sure they are as well). Though the process is far from being over–the winner and two runners-up will be announced on November 15–having the list in our hands is enough to make us sit on the edge of our seats. The finalists are as follows:
