See how Michelle Obama’s and Ann Romney’s wardrobes differ–and what they say about their respective husband’s philosophies. Romney’s Oscar de la Renta apparently telegraphed “aspirational individualism” while Obama’s more accessible Tracy Reese telegraphed “inspirational collectivism.” Hm. {HuffPo}

A Hunger Games ‘Tribute’ Models Lauren Conrad’s Fall 2012 Paper Crown Look Book

Lauren Conrad‘s contemporary line Paper Crown is still chugging right along and we just received the look book for fall 2012. While it’s certainly cute in its own right (so many flared skirts!), there’s another compelling factor: It features 14-year-old actress/model Kalia Prescott, who appears in The Hunger Games. According to her website, she’s repped Read more →

Check Out the Full Spring Look Book for Lauren Conrad’s Paper Crown Line

Lauren Conrad‘s Paper Crown line is chugging along on the fashion calendar, which means she’s just released the look book for her spring 2012 collection (she previously put out fall and holiday).

It’s her third collection for Paper Crown, and so far the look for the line is consistent–sweet wearable basics that you could picture LC wearing. This season’s got an adorable mod twist with Peter Pan collars on blouses and an especially charming pink striped day coat. There are lots of girly bow details than run throughout the collection and they’re particularly charming on the backs blouses that dip low in the back. I also liked the dresses with longer hemlines and baggy sweaters styled over floral skirts while I found the shorter solid-color dresses to be kind of a snooze.

What do you think of Conrad’s third collection for her own line? Would you wear Paper Crown?

Fashion News Roundup: Fashion News Roundup: Lindsay Lohan Covers Italian Vanity Fair, Brazilian Vogue Manages to Make Gisele Look Wonky and What Kate Middleton Should Wear in LA

Lindsay Lohan’s on Italian Vanity Fair: Lindsay Lohan’s first post-house arrest magazine cover is out and it’s the latest issue of Italian Vanity Fair, which hit newstands today. Lohan is also rumored to cover September’s American Vanity Fair, so we guess Conde Nast has no problem putting the same girl on the covers of international versions of the same magazine two months in a row. {Vanity Fair Italy}

More Behind-the-Scenes With the Olsens and Sally Lyndley: In the second behind the scenes video for Mary-Kate and Ashley’s Stylemint photo shoot, the twins discuss why they chose model Tati Cotliar, photographer Terry Richardson and stylist Sally Lyndley, who also talks about her inspiration for the shoot. {Stylelist}

Teenagers are buying couture: It’s easy to forget that some people attend couture shows with the intention of actually buying things. As the couture business continues to change and evolve, so are its customers. Young girls and royals from the middle and far east have become typical couture clients. {Telegraph UK}

Lauren Conrad on Her Second Collection for Paper Crown (Plus the Full Look Book)

Lauren Conrad’s new line Paper Crown might not have the publicity of an MTV reality show behind it, but it’s still chugging right along.

In fact, Conrad, who is on the cover of Lucky‘s July issue in a complete look from her new label, told the mag that she’s even glad her reality show was dropped. “It’s easier to launch the line without MTV,” she says. “A lot of people in fashion don’t want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down.” Plus, she concedes her life isn’t exactly MTV fodder anymore. “There weren’t any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what’s the point?” she told the mag.

Conrad seems bent on proving herself in the fashion world.

Lauren Conrad On Her New Line, Her Canceled MTV Reality Show, and that Rumor that Whitney Port Blamed Her For The Demise of The City

When I stopped by the Coterie yesterday to interview Lauren Conrad and check our her debut contemporary line, Paper Crown, I expected a crush of cameras, reporters and publicists. I expected that an overly protective publicist would monitor my interview to make sure I didn’t ask certain questions and that I wrapped it up after 10 minutes. So it was a pleasant surprise when I located Paper Crown’s modest booth at Pier 94 to find Conrad and her two business partners (also her two best friends–not Hills alums), just hanging out, listening to Billy Joel on an iPad, and not a paparazzo or crazed publicist in sight.

Of course, if MTV hadn’t dropped the reality show they were filming about Conrad’s new line, there would have been a 15-person camera crew crowding the space. “I was a little disappointed at first but I’m very much OK with it now,” said Conrad of her show being canceled. “[The show] was very different from The Hills–it was filmed like a documentary–it was a very different experience.” Now, she even seemed relieved there wasn’t a camera crew around to make everything crowded and chaotic. “Can you imagine if there were cameras here?” she said, looking around at Paper Crown’s small booth.

Sadly, the absence of camera crews means that there’s little hope Conrad’s show will make it to air on any network–because MTV stopped filming halfway through the design process. “It’s an incomplete story now,” Conrad said.

But back to the clothes.

Lauren Conrad’s New Line, Paper Crown: The Complete Look Book

After MTV dropped Lauren Conrad’s reality show for being “too high brow,” Conrad lost a lot of potential publicity for her forthcoming contemporary line, Paper Crown. The show was to follow the making of Paper Crown, a la The September Issue (not The Hills). We wondered what would become of Conrad’s Paper Crown without the help of MTV, but a fall 2011 landed in our inbox late last night, so it looks like the collection will be in stores come fall.

The collection is sweet, just like Conrad, and we could picture her in every piece–which, considering her sizable fan base, is a very good thing. Judging from the look book, Conrad’s first attempt at a contemporary priced collection is a vast improvement from her lackluster collections for Kohl’s. It reminds us a little of Elizabeth and James only skewed younger. Paper Crown features on-trend basics like leather shorts, silk blouses in blush tones, slouchy blazers, tight cocktail dresses, tiered ruffled maxi dresses (a Conrad staple) and short, flouncy, belted dresses.

MTV Pulls Plug on Lauren Conrad’s New Reality Show Because It Was “Too High Brow”

MTV Pulls Plug on Lauren Conrad’s New Reality Show Because It Was “Too High Brow”

MTV, the network that made Lauren Conrad a star, has confirmed they will not air her new reality show, which focused on her forthcoming contemporary line, Paper Crown.

“We decided not to go ahead with the show,” David Janollari, Head of Programming for MTV, told EW.com. “She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that’s also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances…It was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now.”

It’s news that seems to have come to a shock to Conrad, who talked up the show in her Teen Vogue cover story a few months ago, saying it was inspired by The September Issue. “The Hills was shot with three or four cameras; things like entrances and exits were reshot; and if there were sound issues, we were asked to repeat what we just said,” Conard said. “This show is going to have a smaller crew, and they’ll just be following us around. It’s going to have a rougher feel, but I think the end result is going to be more true.”

Seems MTV wanted more Hills and less R.J. Cutler. Conrad has issued the following statement regarding MTV’s decision to kill the show:

Lauren Conrad Wants Her New Show To Be Like The September Issue

Lauren Conrad’s new MTV reality show won’t be a Hills redux. Gone are the grainy glammed-up montages of LA’s freeways, Conrad says her new show will be filmed more like a “documentary.” “The Hills was shot with three or four cameras; things like entrances and exits were reshot; and if there were sound issues, we were asked to repeat what we just said,” LC tells Teen Vogue in her cover story. “This show is going to have a smaller crew, and they’ll just be following us around. It’s going to have a rougher feel, but I think the end result is going to be more true.” (Right…)

Her inspiration? The September Issue. The show will focus on her new line, Paper Crown, which, Conrad says, will be all about “really great fits, fabrics, and details. It won’t be overly trendy—nothing that’s trying too hard.”
