Step Away From the Feathers: 10 Coachella Trends That Need To Die

Coachella is the music festival to end all music festivals, so we always watch to see what fashion trends are going to be big on the circuit. While this weekend brought out the best in some (Dree Hemingway in Dolce and Gabbana!), Buzzfeed’s list of Coachella fashion disasters reminded us of the worst. Is anyone else so sick of feather headdresses and denim cutoffs?

Penn Badgley, Ginnifer Goodwin, Akon, The Misshapes and More Star in H&M’s Fashion Against AIDS Campaign

H&M is set to launch a unisex collection on April 26th called “H&M Fashion Against AIDS,” with 25% of proceeds benefiting youth HIV/AIDS projects around the world. To promote the collection, the fast fashion giant wrangled a bevy of young stars from film, TV, and music including Penn Badgley, Akon, Ginnifer Goodwin, Selma Blair, Keri Hilson, Sky Ferreira, Shiloh Fernandez, Nikki Reed, the Scissor Sisters and ubiquitous fashion scenesters the Misshapes.

“When I was growing up, I thought we were all going to get AIDS–it was this big scary disease, but then it seems like people forgot about it, but the disease is still there and very much part of our lives,” Selma Blair said in a release. “It’s a disease that can be avoided. It’s especially tragic when our ignorance keeps us from safety.”

And as for the unisex designs, Penn Badgley digs it: “I like it! I think it’s interesting. It’s like a blank slate, your own style and how you wear it. The clothes don’t wear you as much as you wear them. The style is simple enough that it doesn’t dictate yours.” Each star wore a piece of the collection in their own way to fit their personal style. Scissor Sister’s Ana Matronic wore a peach trench as a dress. Badgley paired his tee with…a hoodie.

How Much Did the Target Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular Cost?

Last night, Target took over the southern façade of the Standard as well as the surrounding blocks to put on what they called “The Target Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular.” And spectacular it was.

In a dazzling and dizzying display of music, lights, dance, fashion, and, above all, wealth, Target put on a 20 minute show perfectly suited to the ADD-generation. A meticulously choreographed dance routine synchronized to a light show played out across 155 rooms, set to an original score recorded with a 30-piece orchestra and 10-member chorus. If that wasn’t enough, models in Target collections (no William Rast) walked on scaffolding in front of the hotel at the same time. All this amidst protest over Target’s controversial $150K donation to business advocacy group MN Forward who supports Tom Emmer, a Republican candidate for Minnesota governor who is outspoken against gay marriage (protesters were on hand holding signs that read “Bigot” using Target’s bulls eye logo as the “o”).

My first thought as I took in the spectacle of Target’s “spectacular”: “Does this mean the recession is over?”
