Garance Doré Doesn’t Think The Vogue Kiddie Diet Article Was Necessarily A Bad Thing: While we’re all up in arms over Dara Lynn Weiss’ “Weight Watcher” testimony in this month’s Vogue, blogger Garance Doré thinks it does serve a positive purpose. She writes, “…I find it good that Vogue, through that testimony, breaks the silence of one of those ‘normal’ women that live with a food disorder all their life.” While she makes a good argument for awareness, it’s not like there isn’t a huge discourse about eating disorders, especially in the fashion world. We’re more concerned about the psychological effects Weiss’ actions had on her perfectly healthy seven-year-old. {The Cut}

Lady Gaga Tweets A Photo of Herself Without Makeup: … so we guess she doesn’t go to bed entirely in costume like we imagined? {Lady Gaga Twitter}

Joan Smalls Covers Vogue Australia: Joan Smalls is on the cover of like, everything right now, and that includes the May issue of Vogue Australia. Continue to collect those coins, Ms. Smalls! {Fashin}

Dolce & Gabbana Sues Dolce & Banana: No, this is real. The famed Italian design house has filed a lawsuit against Cape Town gift shop Dolce & Banana for trademark infringement, claiming the store “makes a mockery of the well-known trademark, Dolce & Gabbana.” Sounds like Domencio and Stefano are not fans of clever puns. {Racked}

Fashion News Roundup: Kate Middleton Involved in Fur Controversy, Kendall Jenner Models Swimwear, and Daniel Radcliffe is a Bullett Magazine Coverboy

Duchess Kate Was NOT Wearing Real Fur: All woodland creatures can now breathe a sigh of relief. After garnering praise from the International Fur Foundation and extreme criticism from PETA (shocker) over a shearling-type jacket she wore on an outing with Wills, the Palace sent out a press release stating that the fur worn by the Duchess formerly known as Kate Middleton was, indeed, faux. {Vogue UK}

Get Ready for CK One Cosmetics: After 18 years as a brand, CK One will introduce its first-ever makeup collection. The reasonably priced cosmetics will launch in the US exclusively at Ulta stores in April. The beauty products, which are faced by the likes of Lara Stone and and Abbey Lee Kershaw, won’t be about transformation (hello, digital alteration…), but about “looking real, defining yourself and adding intensity.” {WWD, subscription required}

Daniel Radcliffe Does Bullett Magazine: If it’s wrong for me to be strangely attracted to Dan Rad on his Bullett cover, why does it feel so very right? {MTV Style}

Fashion News Roundup: Andrej Pejic Has A Song Dedicated to Him, Richard Chai Partners With Filson, and Christina Hendricks Covers UK Cosmo

Someone Wrote A Song About Andrej Pejic: “Fashion Boy,” penned by Victoria Aitken is dedicated to the male model, of whom Ms. Aitken is a card-carrying stan: “As a muse to my latest single, Andrej has taken us to territory we haven’t chartered before. I’m absolutely mad about him!” {Vogue UK}

PETA Puts Up Billboard in Garment District: Penelope Cruz casts what we think was meant to be a disapproving eye on the entire garment district, in a black-and-white campaign for the animal rights group. {Racked}

Death by Hair Extensions: While you’ve been worrying about the formaldehyde in your Brazilian blowout, a London woman was rushed to the emergency room after passing out in a nightclub. The cause? Coroners say she possibly suffered an allergic reaction from the wig glue she’d applied to attach her hair extensions. What a tragedy, and a steep price to pay for beauty. {Daily Mail}

Fashion News Roundup: Louboutin and YSL Still at It, PETA Hates on Kim Kardashian and Janet Jackson, and Kate Moss’ Vogue Cover Gets Recycled

The Latest on YSL v. Louboutin: Yes, this is still happening. YSL’s lawyers have now filed their appeal against Christian Louboutin’s latest appeal, which was due by the end of 2011. Way back in April, Louboutin sued YSL for selling a (red) shoe with a red sole, claiming the famed footwear designer had put a trademark on scarlet soles in 2008 – which the judge then deemed invalid. But clearly, Chris L. wasn’t about to give up without a fight. Y’all got drama, the saga continues. {WWD}

PETA Names Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian “Celeb Grinches”: Is wearing fur the same as hating Christmas? PETA, who sure has a way with biting commentary, called Miss-Jackson-if-you’re-nasty “just plain nasty” for her apparent love of animal pelts and collaboration with Blackglama. Fur-lover Kim K has also been blacklisted, unlike her “sweet sister Khloe” who starred in an anti-fur PETA ad. {Telegraph}

Kate Moss Vogue Cover Gets Dupli-Kated: What ever happened to originality (and budgets), people? Australian mag Madison‘s Jan 2012 cover is a more saturated version of Kate Moss’s Vogue Paris cover from June/July 2010. And you may remember that just a few weeks back, Carey Mulligan’s American Vogue cover was reincarnated as a French Elle cover. These photos are without a doubt lovely, but isn’t the point of a fashion mag to sell clothes? Pretty sure those outfits are out of season… {HuffPo}

Fashion News Roundup: Someone Stole $400K Worth of Louis Vuitton, Natalie Portman and Pam Anderson Gets Their Own Stamps, and Galliano’s Atelier Won an Award

Louis Vuitton the Latest Victim of a Fashion Heist: Five masked thieves made off with 10 pallets and $400,760 worth of LV merch at Charles de Gaulle airport outside Paris. Why is everyone stealing from Marc Jacobs?? {WWD, subscription required}

Desigual Launches E-commerce in the US: You can now get your hands on the colorful merch from Spanish retailer Desigual without leaving your couch. The company is offering free shipping and returns through the end of December, and for Cyber Monday (that would be today) they’re offering 40% off your purchase. {Desigual}

It’s a Lanvin Bake-Off: To kick off the arrival of their new children’s line, Lanvin Petite, into boutiques, Lanvin wants moms and daughters to send in their favorite chocolate cake recipes. The winning recipe will be served at a “luxury tea party” at the Place Vendome. We recommend that you don’t wear your best Lanvin while eating chocolate cake, though. {WWD, subscription required}

Fashion News Roundup: Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum Are Hosting Dueling H’ween Parties, YSL Makes Scented Mascara, and PETA Wants Gaga to Go Green

Victoria’s Secret Models’ Dueling Halloween Parties: Current Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr is hosting a NYC Halloween soiree the same night as her predecessor and Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s annual bash. It’s like a Zoolander-esque walk-off, except they’ll be wearing funny costumes and probably won’t even see each other. The horror!! Mwahaha. {NY Post}

PETA Wants Gaga in a Lettuce Dress: PETA will design a dress of leafy greens, and is even offering to supply someone to spray the ensemble with water so it doesn’t wilt. How generous! {Styleite}

You Can Vote for British Style Icon of the Year: Once again, the British Fashion Council is letting us vote for our favo[u]rite Brit it-girl. Alexa Chung won last year, but there are a lot of other strong contenders and a few fresh faces this time around. Who shall it be? As Captain Planet would say, the power is YOURS! {Telegraph}

PETA Compares Mischa Barton’s Meat Shoot To Licking a Toilet

Earlier this week Mischa Barton made headlines for the first time in a loooong while, when she posed with a big old pile of raw meat in a shoot for photographer Tyler Shields. Sounds like classy comeback material, right?

PETA certainly didn’t think so. The animal rights groups issued a statement on TooFab lambasting Shields and Barton for participating in the shoot. “This raw meat stuff is getting old,” they said. “And [it] not only hurts and kills cows, it may hurt Mischa, because so much meat is infected with salmonella, E. coli, and campylobacter that licking it is like licking a toilet.”

Fashion Week Parties: Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld Hosts A Graffiti Show and PETA Parties Instead of Protesting (For Now)

As darkness fell on the first day of New York Fashion Week, we headed west to check out some art courtesy of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld’s curation, and show off our faux fur at PETA’s fashion week party.

The first stop was a warehouse on the desolate Washington Street where Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida were hosting RETNA: The Hallelujah World Tour. The open and dim space smelled of fresh paint (there were splatters of it on the floor) and graffiti artist RETNA’s canvases filled with abstract black and white symbols lined the walls. The crowd, sipping on what we’re pretty sure was straight vodka, was as eclectic as the art itself. Fashion folk like Eddie Borgo and proud mama Carine Roitfeld mingled with a young flock of skateboarders (boards in tow), older women in hulking fur coats, and disheveled yet chic Parisian-looking men.

Fashion News Roundup: Stella’s Baby Girl, How to Get Valentino for Gap in the States and PETA Attacks DKNY, Again

It’s a girl! Stella McCartney birthed what will be a very well-dressed baby last Tuesday in London. The designer and her husband just revealed that it’s a girl named Reiley, who will totally be fighting over these clothes with Rachel Zoe’s baby (who we continue to assume is a girl). {The Cut}

PETA vs. DKNY: DKNY does not like Facebook spamming. PETA appears to have attacked DKNY (again) via Facebook yesterday. A bunch of people posted comments with profile pictures that spelled out “DK BUNNY BUTCHER.” DKNY has since deleted the comments and appear to have disabled commenting altogether. {BuzzFeed/Facebook}

APC Gets Robbed: I’ve dreamed of robbing an A.P.C. store, but figured I’d never get away with it. Some guy in L.A. was a bit more confident. Here is a kind of funny video of him trying to break into A.P.C., set to what Racked calls “A.P.C. music.” {Racked}

The Kardashian Kard is Kaput: There’s our K aliteration for the day. “The negative spotlight turned on the Kardashians as a result of the Attorney General’s comments and actions threatens everything for which they have worked,” is what the Kardashian’s lawyer said about finding out that the Kardashian-branded prepaid debit card could violate consumer protection laws. Apparently, they didn’t know this before they began working so hard on the card and have thus decided to cut ties with it. {Page Six}

Fashion News Roundup: Billy’s Big Win, Crystal Renn on the Today Show and Mrs. Obama Honors Rodarte

We Heart Billy Reid: It’s been a few months since Billy Reid was named GQ‘s Best Menswear Designer of the Year, but we insist you check out this video GQ just posted. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at the exclusive presentation of each designer’s collection to the judges. Watch ’til the end when Billy is presented with the grand prize. He’s so happy and even starts to tear up! It’s too cute. {GQ.com}

Crystal Renn’s Today Show Confessions: The fashion world has been in a tizzy over (fomerly?) plus size model Crystal Renn’s apparent weight loss. The model went on the Today Show to dispel and explain. She says those Fashion for Passion photos were retouched to make her look like a size two, that she has been doing a new exercise routine, and that she’s been in recovery from anorexia for seven years. {The Cut}

Kelly Cutrone’s Books Need Their Own Section: Yes, Kelly Cutrone is working on a second book, tentatively titled Yes I Said That. But she doesn’t want this book to end up where her last one did–in the self-help section. “My idea is that there should be a section called ‘Journey’ and when my book comes out in May, I want it to be in [this] new section.” {People Style Watch}

Joaquin Phoenix Vs. the Shoe Gods

Joaquin Phoenix filmed the (graphic) video at left for Peta. It’s a brief look at the exotic skin trade and the methods of farming lizards, snakes and alligators for luxury shoes and bags. Peta says he’s sent the video to both Jimmy Choo (the company, not the man) and Christian Louboutin, along with a letter Read more →
