Fashion Family Tragedy: In unfortunate news this week, a plane carrying members of the Missoni family went missing, amid rumors of a possible kidnapping. However, the company has decided that the menswear show must go on, so it is still scheduled for Sunday in Milan.
Phillip Lim was nice enough to hop on email with us and answer all of our fangirl questions about the history and future of his 31 Hour bag series–including a new shape he just introduced this season. Read on for all the scoop on the bag.
People love pets– and designers are no exception. With all the constant crazy talk happening in the fashion world, who wouldn’t want a verbally challenged companion? It’s easy to understand what makes pets so appealing to the fash pack: No amount of cross-breeding could produce a canine or kitten with the ability to question, “What’s going on with John Galliano? Is Kim the new Gwyneth? And those wigs at Chanel… why??” They may shed fur all over your best black suit, but they’ll also still love you regardless of what Anna Wintour thinks of your F/W collection.
The late Alexander McQueen famously left his three beloved dogs the extremely generous (though probably under-appreciated) postmortem gift of £50,000. And while it’s safe to say that not all designers would go so far as to supply their pets with a year’s salary, it’s clear that their animal friends hold a dear place in their hearts.
Sasha Grey Puts Clothes On for Interview Germany: Porn star turned actress Sasha Grey stars in an editorial shot by Sean & Seng for Interview Germany‘s April edition. While fashion and porn have always been sometimes-strange bedfellows, there’s nary a nip-slip in sight from Grey (sorry, dudes). Grey wears the likes of Versace and Jil Sander on location at Hollywood High School. {Fashion Gone Rogue}
Elizabeth and James Make Foray Into Home Goods: Or at least, that’s what their new Clara dress looks like. The barely-there mint green dress looks suspiciously like a bath towel. The dress, which retails for $395, also comes with straps for those ladies feeling a bit more modest. {Refinery29}
Jessica Biel Shops for Wedding Dress: Living out every girl’s idea of 7th Heaven, Biel was spotted shopping for wedding gowns in Paris this past weekend. She spent a reported seven hours in the showrooms of Giambattista Valli and Elie Saab preparing for her upcoming nuptials to Justin Timberlake. Biel raised eyebrows when she then stopped by a children’s furniture store and chic kid’s clothing store Bonpoint. {New York Daily News}
The past four days have been a non-stop party for a lot of fashion people here in New York. And those Halloween parties have been well-documented. The Tribeca Grand’s Overlook Hotel party, the Boom Boom Room’s fete and last night’s V party hosted by Terry Richardson drew the most fashion-heavy crowds and, as we all know, fashion people like to dress up. They also seem to like obscure references–many of their costumes were tough to identify, but still fun to look at. So, from Alexa Chung to Joan Smalls to Marc Jacobs, here are a bunch of fashion people in their Halloween best!

Karl Lagerfeld’s Creating a Book For Newest Hogan Collection: For his third collaboration with Hogan, consistently overachieving Karl has created a 32-page companion book featuring photos and sketches of models wearing the collection. Previous Lagerfeld/Hogan endeavors include a film and a photo exhibition… Does this man sleep? {WWD}
Kanye West Sends Out Invitations, Drinks Tea With Fabric Store Owner: Here’s a look at an invitation for Kanye’s show tomorrow night in Paris – the ‘DW’ is thought to be for his late mother, Donda. The rapper-turned-designer stopped into a London fabric wholesaler twice this past week for last minute trimmings, delighting the owner by staying for tea. {High Snobiety and NY Mag}

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.
Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.
After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.
Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.
Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.
Just kidding – sort of.

Fashion’s Night Out is quickly approaching and it’s going to be huge. During the week of September 10 events will be taking place across the globe. As we already reported, Vogue will be staging the biggest fashion show ever on September 7. As follow up, there will also be a CBS special on the 14 and a FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode on the 20.
But what about the day of? Not everyone’s plans are 100% locked down yet, although we’ve been getting scoops from a few retailers from NYC to Berlin and we just couldn’t wait to share! It’s never too early to start preparing for fashion’s biggest party, right?
