The past four days have been a non-stop party for a lot of fashion people here in New York. And those Halloween parties have been well-documented. The Tribeca Grand’s Overlook Hotel party, the Boom Boom Room’s fete and last night’s V party hosted by Terry Richardson drew the most fashion-heavy crowds and, as we all know, fashion people like to dress up. They also seem to like obscure references–many of their costumes were tough to identify, but still fun to look at. So, from Alexa Chung to Joan Smalls to Marc Jacobs, here are a bunch of fashion people in their Halloween best!

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.

Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.

After living here for a while, you sometimes forget how many amazing people live and work in New York City. When we walked into City Hall for the Fashion’s Night Out kick-off press conference today, we went through security with Lisa Mayock from Vena Cava.

Then, we saw Anna Wintour walking ahead of us and Alex Wang suddenly appeared behind us. A few minutes later Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez walked in. After we were seated inside the press conference room, the following people (in addition to the aforementioned) surrounded the podium: Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Tracy Reese, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Thakoon Panichgul, Marcus Wainwright from Rag & Bone, Francisco Costa, Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Steven Kolb, Linda Fargo, the Mayor…and after a few moments, we noticed tiny Mary-Kate Olsen peeking her head out behind Marc.

Then, unfortunately, we died and are thus unable to report anything else about Fashion’s Night Out.

Just kidding – sort of.

Fashion’s Night Out is quickly approaching and it’s going to be huge. During the week of September 10 events will be taking place across the globe. As we already reported, Vogue will be staging the biggest fashion show ever on September 7. As follow up, there will also be a CBS special on the 14 and a FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode on the 20.

But what about the day of? Not everyone’s plans are 100% locked down yet, although we’ve been getting scoops from a few retailers from NYC to Berlin and we just couldn’t wait to share! It’s never too early to start preparing for fashion’s biggest party, right?

Every summer New York’s Governors Island hosts a couple Jazz Age lawn parties, where orchestras play and people dance, dressed to the nines in 1920s-inspired garb.

(Sometimes, it’s actual vintage from that era. See this image from 2008′s celebration, courtesy of the Sart, for proof.)

Several Fashionista contributors are planning on heading out to the other island this weekend, so we decided to round up our favorite Jazz Age-inspired pieces. These are fun to wear regardless of the occasion.

Racked wants to know if you think Scarlett Johannson’s new Mango ads are creepy or beautiful. We want to know if she’s wearing Phillip Lim’s SS10 resort lace dress, or an identical copy Mango‘s reproduced for their fall collection. We’ve been staring at it all day and we can’t tell. The Lim dress is one [...]

During New York Fashion Week, Britt had a bit of a conniption over the masses of velvet sweeping the runways. By the end of Paris, I was also having a conniption. But this time, it was a good thing. And it was over camel. I’ve been wearing more khaki over the last couple of seasons, [...]

Dresses used to be the best thing about Phillip Lim; between those and the flouncy skirts he made for 3.1 we knew which silhouettes we’d be sporting next season. This time around, the closing dresses fell flat. Instead, Lim’s coats were the highlight of his AW10 show. A shearling jacket stood out (we’re still bummed [...]
