Celine Cancels Runway Show Due to Phoebe Philo’s Pregnancy

One of Paris Fashion Week (and all of Fashion month)’s most highly anticipated collections won’t see a runway this season. Celine creative director Phoebe Philo, who is due to give birth to her third child in April, is skipping the runway, WWD reports.

If you’re panicking at the possibility that there won’t be another Celine collection to drool over this season, don’t worry–she’s still showing her collection.

Louboutin Making Shoes for Paris Cabaret: Is this what Christian Louboutin was referring to when he said his shoes bring on an “orgasmic situation?” The French footwear designer is set to release a collaboration with Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse, which is well-known for its topless dancers. Wonder if he’ll be making matching nipple tassels… {WWD}

Skechers Replaces Kim Kardashian with a Dog: We would never have guessed that Kardashian overxposure had reached the beer commercial-loving Superbowl crowd. Skechers has announced that the star of its newest sneaker commercials will be none other than… a cute and cuddly French bulldog. Sorry Kim, looks like this bitch has got the last laugh. Or woof. {People}

Annabel Tollman Personifies Underwear in Calvin Klein Webisodes: Calvin Klein Underwear has teamed up with the stylist on a series of webisodes for its new “Naked Glamour” campaign. The three roughly-minute and a half long spots feature Tollman dressing models for a shoot, describing each bra style as the foundation of a character’s look: Confident, Sexy, and Strong. Tollman says she “wanted to encapsulate that moment of self-creation that we all go through [when getting dressed]” – seems like a lot of pressure for a bra! {WWD}

It’s (Almost) Official: Another Report Says Marc Jacobs Is In at Dior

It’s (Almost) Official: Another Report Says Marc Jacobs Is In at Dior

“High-ranking industry sources” have confirmed to The Daily that Marc Jacobs will replace John Galliano as creative director at Christian Dior.

A Marc Jacobs spokesperson could not be reached for comment as Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy are both out of the office (The Daily speculates the two may be in Paris, negotiating the deal with Dior). However a Dior spokesperson was reached and they said, “I have no comment,” which we all know is code for “probs.”

Report: Marc Jacobs to Dior, Phoebe Philo to Louis Vuitton

Report: Marc Jacobs to Dior, Phoebe Philo to Louis Vuitton

After months of speculation and rumors about who would replace John Galliano at Dior, the latest report from WWD has Marc Jacobs in talks to take over at the storied French house.

The news flies in the face of the most recent Dior rumors, which suggested that LVMH chair Bernard Arnault would install a lesser known designer at the helm. Of course, if Jacobs is appointed as creative director at Dior, he would vacate his post at Louis Vuitton, and a major reshuffling at LVMH would ensue. WWD is reporting that Phoebe Philo‘s massive success at Celine makes her the frontrunner to replace Jacobs at Louis Vuitton (not to fret, Philo-files, she will reportedly stay on as creative designer at Celine, too).

None of this is set in stone yet–neither Jacobs nor Dior have commented on the report and a source told WWD that “a deal with Jacobs is not assured, but that the American designer and Dior management are so far ‘excited’ about the prospect.”

2011 CFDA Awards: From Kanye and Phoebe to Sofia and Marc

Last night’s CFDA Awards were a decidedly star-studded affair, what with Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Sofia Coppola, Jessica Alba, Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, and host Anderson Cooper spending time on the stage. Cooper had to leave early because of “that Weiner thing,” or so Diane von Furstenberg said, but otherwise the audience received plenty of face time with their star of choice–there were even a couple of moments when one could forget this was, you know, a fashion industry event. But only a couple.

Another year, another CFDA Awards.

Tonight Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb announced the nominations for 2011′s awards. But before she began to read out the names, DvF told the crowd at her packed studio that the organization would be putting together an auction for the victims of the Japan natural disasters. “We’re going to put together big packages. Designers, clients, suppliers–everyone is getting involved.”

As for the nominees and honorees, there were very few surprises, except for maybe one.

Céline Fall 2011: Sleek and Lacquered
Reviews

Céline Fall 2011: Sleek and Lacquered

PARIS–Like Lauren last season, I had a hell of a time getting to the Tennis Club de Paris for Céline’s fall 2011 show. I’m pretty sure I’m the only show-goer who took three different metros and then pleaded with a cab driver to take me the rest of the way–which he only agreed to do after I paid him double and showed him the directions with Google maps on my phone.

But it’s Phoebe Philo! The designer Lauren calls “the closest thing our generation will have to Coco Chanel.” Her Céline girl is the girl everyone wants to look like. So a girl does what she’s gotta do. And good thing, too, because Philo’s fall collection for Céline was sleek perfection.

The runway inside the cavernous indoor court was made of glossy parquet flooring inlaid with marble tiles. The looks—sharp pared down calf-length coats, some with trench paneling at the shoulders and ties at the waist, others with thin lapels done in leather fastened to look double-breasted, paired with skinny pants and leather racing stripes—reflected the sleek floor.

After the show, Philo told the Telegraph‘s Hilary Alexander that she was inspired by the interiors of cars, that she loves driving and “find[s] women in cars very seductive.” She also included several images of women at the wheel–whether a luxury car from the ’70s or a scooter–in her “trend book” of images handed out to attendees. Indeed, as in the interior of a (very fine) car there was plenty of soft leather worked into coats, pants, and drop waist dresses.

The British Fashion Awards: Who Won What

The British Fashion Awards: Who Won What

At last night’s British Fashion Awards, the UK’s version of our CFDA awards (read: fashion Oscars), the ladies swept the show. According to Hilary Alexander at the Telegraph, last night’s awards were the strongest female showing since the awards were established in 1974.

Phoebe Philo, creative director for Céline, took home the top prize winning “Designer of the Year.” Alexa Chung took home the British Style award, an award decided by public vote which, according to the British Fashion Council, “recognises an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital.” Naomi Campbell took home the new “special recognition” award and Lara Stone was named model of the year.

Of course the boys got a few nods, too. Here, the complete list of winners:

Céline Releases “Five Perfect Trousers” Capsule Collection

Céline Releases “Five Perfect Trousers” Capsule Collection

It might sound presumptuous to design a piece of clothing and deem it “perfect” but not if you’re Phoebe Philo. The Céline designer has released a capsule collection, straightforwardly named “Five Perfect Trousers.” And they really are sleek minimalist perfection.

According to Céline, five pairs of pants is all you need. Her capsule collection comprises a high-waisted wide leg pair in white revived from the label’s archives, a pleated tapered pair, a men’s straight leg (our personal favorite), a cropped tube leg, and a flat-front tapered leg.

“There is no shortcut to making an excellent pair of trousers, which is what makes them so rare,” the label wrote in a release about the collection, according to Vogue UK. “It takes a commitment to technique, a deep knowledge of tailoring and understanding of how to elongate differing female body-alignments. Then, there is the critical element: the fashion informed judgment which makes a proportion right, so it synchs effortlessly with a shoe, a top, a jacket for today.”

Fingers crossed for a five perfect tops collection, followed by a five perfect jackets collection, and the ability to afford any of it…

Behold the pants perfection.
